2024 Formula One Season
This is the official line - 'RB team principal Laurent Mekies claimed they arranged Ricciardo’s fastest lap bid because he may not drive for them again after this weekend. “Given this may have been Daniel’s last race, we wanted to give him the chance to savour it and go out with the fastest lap,” he said.' It does however mean that Ricciardo holds the circuit's lap record, so there is that

I've tried but I can't see any way in which Lando was unlucky. He wa spotentially on a decent lap when Sainz crashed but others were more impacted by that (particularly Verstappen) and with over 8 mins to go it was unlikely to have been a significantly fast lap anyway. Did I miss something else

McLaren have confirmed they will not run their 'controversial' mini DRS flexi-wing on the cars again this year. This comes as the FIA were expected to ban it however, since we're passed the point of its greatest benefit (Monaz, Baku etc) it shouldn't really bother them too much. In other news Mohammed Ben Sulayem has suggested the FIA will be cracking down on the broadcasting of driver's swearing on the radio and other instances. Verstappen has been ordered to do some 'public work' due to his use of the f-word during yesterdays press conference. The swearing thing really bugs me. We're talking about an individual in a high pressure, high risk situation, sat alone in his car with only his engineer to communicate with, letting off the occasional swear word, and someone else choosing to broadcast it to the world (and it censored anyway), yet they're taking issue with the drivers as much as anyone else. Let's face it mosy people in that situation would be swearing as some point. Secondly, you can turn on almost any Premier League and hear the players swearing and maybe 30,000 people questioning the referee's self pleasuring habits on any weekend. The grief the driver's are getting for the odd swear word is ludicrous. Swearing it the press conference I get the issue, as you know you're on screen but Verstappen was directly quoting himself in repsonse to a question asked. A simple please mind your language should be enough. It's also worth remembering that a lot of foreign drivers learn English when they arrive hear and much of it is picked up from the mechanics and team personnel which leads to swearing being among the earliest words learned and therefore second nature. As for the race this weekend, so far Red Bull appear to have no grip, Mercedes no pace and Norris and Leclerc are over half a second faster than anyone else so it looks to be between them.

Buzzjack's Favourite Group
I'm more surprised at the omission of Roxy Music than anything else. An entire generation cited them as hugely influential. Practically all of the Post Punk bands, the New Romantics and any 'arty' band have said they owe a debt to them. Maybe the younger generations only know the later Sophisti-Pop hits and not the really important stuff.

Imagination really is a strange inclusion. They were really only popular for a few years and not even that big. 3 top ten hits and two top 20 albums is all of note. If it was a public vote I suspect Leee John was very busy that week.

I Wanna Be Your Man is the only one I'm sad to see go. It is after all the combined talents of Jagger/Richards and Lennon/McCartney all in one glorious 3 minute burst

Don't write Red Bull off just yet. Perez was strong enough to finish in 2nd on Sunday and after Singapore most of the circuits have traditionally suited their cars

Had no idea they were still back together. Assumed it was over once Nicky Tesco died. Their first album, At the Chelsea Nightclub is an underrated New Wave gem

BuzzJack's Ultimate TV Show: VOTING
1. The Sopranos (The finest show ever created. Flawless from beginning to end) 2. Dark (Close run second place. Perfect storytelling) 3. Band of Brothers (One of the greatest achievements in TV history was creating a 10 hour long war movie that didn't feel like Hollywood nonsense) 4. Threads (It really did scar an entire generation. So many images are still seared into our brains) 5. Twin Peaks (At the birth of the '90s David Lynch re-wrote the rules of television. That he did so again 30 years later is incredible) 6. This is England (Like watching my childhood on the screen. I'm the same age as the lead character) 7. The World at War (Made so soon after the war ended that they were able to interview participants from all sides. It changed the way documentaries were made) 8. Cathy Come Home (Even now it still retains a heartbreaking power) 9. Top of the Pops (It didn't matter how much crap was going to be on it this week, you had to watch it) 10. Chernobyl (Chilling reminder of how perilously close to the edge we all were) 11. Fawlty Towers (Not a single line of dialogue is wasted. Perfect comedy) 12. Game of Thrones (Brilliant right up to the last series or two but the glory of its early years earns its place here) 13. The Twilight Zone (Ground breaking and still imitated to this day) 14. Brass Eye (Anyone who can show up Phil Collins for the fool he is, gets points in my book) 15. Star Trek (Fantastic cast, that lead the way with intelligent Sci-Fi that changed TV as we know) 16. Deadwood (The greatest western show of them all) 17. The Thick of It (So ridiculously on point it's almost not satire) 18. The Young Ones (The BBC's response to Channel 4's edgy programming was to hire the biggest names on the Alternative Comedy circuit and give them free reign. The result changed TV comedy forever. 19. Line of Duty (Incredibly well written cop show) 20. The Vietnam War (Ken Burns' masterpiece on the history of the Cold War conflict) 21. Battlestar Galactica (2004) (Modern updating of the cheesy Sci-Fi that plays out as a post 9-11 commentary) 22. Black Adder (From series 2 up to 4 this was exceptionally well crafted comedy. And THAT final scene!) 23. We Are All Going To Die (Korean Zombie series that never settles for the predictable) 24. Peaky Blinders (Oscar winning actor leads ensemble cast in riveting inter war drama) 25. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Star Trek as an allegory for both the occupation of Palestine and the Holocaust and it never takes sides. If only that first season didn't suck so hard) 26. Doctor Who (Long lived and often utterly brilliant and very British show that can be frustratingly bad at times too. It's rich history aids its reputation) 27. Green Wing (One of the best 21st century comedies) 28. Squid Game (Inventive and interesting gameshow series) 29. The Civil War (Ken Burns' documents America's most traumatic period) 30. Spitting Image (Vital tv in the 80s. Forget the revival) 31. The Expanse (One of the most intelligent Sci-Fi series on Tv. Surprised it made it's full run) 32. Our Friends in the North (Brilliant historical drama with the talents of some of tv's finest actors of the time) 33. Les Revenants (French drama about the dead returning. Better than it sounds) 34. Life on Mars (Nostalgia as dramedy and Gene Hunt is one of the small screens greatest creations) 35. The Tube (If TOTP gave us the hits, The Tube gave us the music that mattered) 36. The League of Gentlemen (Subversiver, dark and brilliantly funny) 37. Penny Dreadful (An exercise is demonstrating why Eva Green is one of the finest female actors out there) 38. Monty Python's Flying Circus (Comedy would not be the same without them) 39. Grange Hill (My school years mirrored the show's greatest era. It felt like they were classmates at times) 40. The X-Files (Another ground breaking show that changed the way TV was made in the early '90s) 41. What We Do in the Shadows (Vampires and Matt Berry. What more do you need. Plus I'm in love with Nadia...) 42. Black Mirror (More often brilliant than not, and even when not it's worth the time. White Bear is still my favourite) 43. Tiswas (The nerds watched Swap Shop. The rest of us had this little dose of anarchy every Saturday morning) 44. Star Trek: The Next Generation (After a shaky start the 2nd season really kicked off and that finale launched the end of season cliffhanger trope) 45. Live Aid (Nobody wanted to be anywhere but in front of the telly all day, that day) 46. Skins (A brilliant first two seasons seemed impossible to match. The next two actually managed it. Naomi and Emily may be among the best presented relationships on tv ever.) 47. Married... With Children (Fox TVs sitcom proved controversial and repeatedly complained about for its lack of wholesome family values. Something the US moral majority wouldn't stand for in the 80s. Then The Simpsons came and stole the premise but made it more palatable) 48. Lost (By turns brilliant and frustrating. Still worth the effort despite the damb squib ending) 49. Batman (Without Adam West I doubt I'd have the same fondness for Gotham's most messed up orphan. Colourful, crazy and ridiculous. Plus Catwoman...) 50. Roots (The moving story of Gambian teenager Kunta Kinte and his abduction and selling into slavery in the USA)

I can definitely see that being matched at least. I'm pretty sure it's only not been done before because they never used to give half the grid points

Ocon. He hit the wall and was driving slowly back to the pit. It shoould only have been a white flag

2024 Formula One Season
All four drivers who overtook other cars on the warm down lap have received an official warning. These were Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Ocon and Gasly. Early this year in Australia a similar incident occured but it was not noted or punished in any way. However, the stewards have reminded all drivers that further incident of this nature will result in harsher penalties in the future.

2024 Formula One Season
Looked to me more like Perez drifted over to the right and clipped Sainz's left rear with his right front causing the incident. I think they're both drifting towards ech other but Perez seems to be moving more. Racing incident personally but it doesn't feel to me like Sainz took Perez out Confirmed as no further action - racing incident
-
2024 Formula One Season
Depending on how strict the stewards want to be, he may well yet end up with a 5 or 10 sec penalty anyway for overtaking under the VSC. Although personally I think all four should just get a reprimand instead, since the race was over at the time.

Absolutely Lando was unlucky with the flag but it also shows up his tendency to miss opportunities presented to him. He was only 2/10s off Leclerc's time through sector but aborted the moment he saw the yellow, however as some have pointed out, he had almost the whole straight to go before hit reached the yellow and you did not need to slow until you reach the flag. By the time he did it was over. He had both the option to continue at pace until the flag or lift off just enough to show he was slowing and would likely still qualify higher than 17th. The worst option was to abort the lap where he did. I'm pretty sure Mx, Lewis etc would have delayed as long as possible. He'll be 16th now though with Gasly DSQ

At least Lando is unlikely to go backwards at the start this time. If I were him, I'd put a new engine in overnight and take the grid penalty here.

2024 Formula One Season
Yes, that one. Max was at fault yes but as RFC points out Lando could have been smarter with his timing. However, the real point is that Lando's car only received a puncture in the contact. However, he went far too fast trying to get to the pits and ended up retiring because he damaged his car doing so. A smarter driver would have been more conservative with their pace and returned to the track with a new tyre. On the second point - Max isn't Lando so not really relevant. Lando has literally said he would prefer to win it deservedly on the track and without too much assistance from Oscar. Realistically, though the only way he'll win it is if he can convince Ferrari and Mercedes to pull aside for him as well. Or if Max is unable to complete the season due to injury/illness
