Decent bunch in there and there was a time when R.E.M. would have been right up the top end of my list probably right before they released Out of Time. Unfortunately, whilst most of their early '90s output was good and often great, the latter half saw them go off the boil for me. And the less said about Shiny Happy People the better. I'd agree a Beach Boys rate would be good but I'd like to proffer an R.E.M. one too at some point (although to include non charting singles)

Buzzjack's Greatest F1 Race- 2024 Edition
Oh I can't wait to do this! Last time I remember I ruled out any races I didn't recall watching at the time, so there was nothing pre-1976 in it. I may allow in ones I've watch retrospectively this time as there are some cracking races that should be in there

Amyl and the Sniffers - Cartoon Darkness
Love the first two albums (and the 2 EPs) although my favourite thing Amy has done is on the Viagra Boys cover of john Prine's In Spite of Ourselves. That and bringing back the word 'Daggy' on stage at Glastonbury last year

Three quality acts to kick off the top 50 (although U2 lose me after 2000 generally)

Funeral is an absolute classic of an album. I like both Neon Bible and Suburbs very much too but they drop off fast for me after that. Hated Reflektor for example. I'm with you in having a taste that is not aligned with the general preference on the site, so much so that even the Indie forum is a too mainstream for me in as a whole. I've got 2 acts left from my list and they're both bands where I love their early work but there came a point where they shifted to a much more 'mainstream alternative' sound and lost me a bit. Anyone who knows me won't find it hard to work them out. However, I'm more than happy to prop up the bottom of the table in that sense. If It'd been a list of favourite band regardless of chart hits I'd still have them same two in it but it would have wiped out half my list anyway. None of my list has had a top 40 hit since 2010 and most of my favourites have never had one.

Even though I like a few songs by the Chili Peppers I will never understand how that band are continually allowed to get away with being total scumbags without anyone really pulling them up on it. Everyone knew they were dodgy since the early '90s and it's not like their short on accusations of sexual abuse, Kiedis has openly admitted to knowingly carrying out statutory child rape on a 14 year old (without any apparent remorse to this day), has a history of dating minors (US age) and they were in part culpable for inciting the rioting at Woodstock '99. Yet nobody ever seems to care. Weird Never been a fan of Backstreet Boys, Busted, Corrs or Wham!

The version of The Last Time in the playlist is a different song by Taylor Swift not the Stones track

I went and saw them last year. It was the third time I'd seen them live but the first time without Keith - the previous times were back in the '90s. Obviously, the experience was very different to back the but they remain extremely good live. If you get the chance again, don't waste it. You should go.

As chartjack2 has rightly said there are two JD albums - Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980). I would add though that the compilation Substance is a worthy addition as none of their singles are on either album and you'd miss out on some of their best work by ignoring them

Two exceptional bands there that shaped the very sound of the '90s more than most. Can't remember how anything by onerepublic goes though.

Roger Waters has said some questionable things in his time. I don't buy the 'he's anti semitic' line as that is often based on a misunderstanding of his art but his love affair with Putin isn't great

Agree that Pink Floyd and The Smiths are very worthy inclusions, despite certain members being of a questionable disposition these days, their contribution to the musical landscapes can't really be overstated. Both would have been on the faves list for me somewhere further down but if the list was for best bands instead they'd be much higher on mine.

As it currently stands there will be no boxing at the next olympics anyway, not without a newly recognised international federation to govern it. They've binned off the IBA due to their dodgy status.

New Order are a really weird one for me. I love Joy Division but just cannot get to feel anything much for New Order. Even the first album, which is broadly JD in style, doesn't excite me, and whilst I recognise and appreciate their importance and many great songs, pretty much everything they've done leaves me completely cold or I find slightly annoying and overrrated. I've tried and tried, in fact I'm listening to my playlist of them right now, and I have many friends who've loved them for years but I just can't get in to them.

Foo Fighters are OK. Some very good tunes and plenty of middling ones. Dave's a great drummer and a good songwriter but I find he's too happy to sit in the safe middle ground rather than challenge himself.

I've been away so missed out on commenting. Obviously love CCR, as everyone should. Appetite for Destruction is a cracking album (even with the dodgy lyrics) but otherwise mostly find GNR a bit dull. Aerosmith had a few good tunes in the 70s and 80s but went horribly Diane Warren in the end. Suede - if the list was longer they'd be in there somehwere. Those first two albums alone mark them out as special. Not a lover of the Bee Gees Disco stuff but it's iconic and the earlier stuff I do like quite a few. They belong in here. Other than that OutKast, Scissor Sisters and Gorillaz have a song or three I really like. The rest? Nah, not for me. Oh and The Verve should be in here. A Northern Soul is an underrated 90s classic, arguably better than Urban Hymns in some ways. And debut album A Storm in Heaven is a must for Shoegaze fans

I don't know about cool but I definitely don't have typical Buzzjack taste that's for sure! You are welcome to join me ploughing a lonely furrow. Frankly, I'm surprised I've still got 4 acts left. Having said that, knowing who they are, it's not that odd.

I'm so proud of my home town. Nowhere else I'd ever want to live. And it's amazing to see the true face of Britain stand up and be counted.
