No, I got your point, it was just wrong from my perspective. Trust me I'm really not talking about it all the time. I only know two other people who still watch it and we almost never discuss it as I only see them once a month. This is the only place where I converse with other people about it at all.

Perhaps, slightly misleading as in most of those series episode 6 would fall in the mid season slump though and there was traditional a boost as the finale arrived. This doesn't seem to be happening this year

What a strange comment. People who care about the show will talk about it, whether they think it is making mistakes or doing well. There are just less people who care lately.

Americans can be quite funny about the phrase 'God damned' or variants thereof so it may be something along those lines.

However you try to spin it, a show that starts off with 2.6M viewers on week one and then loses 20% of them in only 5 weeks is not setting the world alight and is on the wrong trajectory. https://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/uk-doctor-who...2024-101452.htm
  6. Every single musician I know who has commented on AI in music seems dead set against it, so I was wondering what a broader spectrum of people on here thought about it. Personally, I can see the possibilities, particularly following The Beatles' single this year but how far is too far? And where should the line be drawn, if at all?
  7. I haven't seen a discussion on this. Thoughts? https://www.loudersound.com/news/universal-...ic-soundlabs-ai Universal Music, the biggest music company in the world, has signed a deal with artificial intelligence start-up Soundlabs to create what it calls "official ultra-high fidelity vocal models for artists using their own voice data for training while retaining control over ownership and giving them full artistic approval and control of the output." In a nutshell, the deal allows singers signed to the label to train AI models using their own voices, meaning that that Jon Bon Jovi – in theory, at least – could record a new album using AI-generated vocals without committing his own voice to tape. The deal ensures that artists retain ownership of the results and are given full artistic approval on how they're used, so that not everyone can make a new Bon Jovi album. In a press release, Universal Music say, "It empowers artists and producers to explore bleeding-edge vocal transformations, including voice-to-voice, voice-to-instrument, speech-to-singing, language transposition, and a myriad of previously impossible vocal transformations. Together, UMG and SoundLabs are collaborating to allow UMG artists to create custom vocal models that will be available for their exclusive creative use cases, and not available to the general public." "It's a tremendous honor to be working with the forward-thinking and creatively aligned Universal Music Group," adds Soundlabs founder BT, who dance music fans may remember from the 1986 hit Blue Skies, featuring Tori Amos. "We believe the future of music creation is decidedly human. Artificial intelligence, when used ethically and trained consensually, has the Promethean ability to unlock unimaginable new creative insights, diminish friction in the creative process and democratize creativity for artists, fans, and creators of all stripes. "We are designing tools not to replace human artists, but to amplify human creativity." Soundlabs describe themselves as producing "ethically trained AI assistive tools for musicians that put the power in musicians' hands, and keeps it there", but the use of AI has been proposed in more controversial ways elsewhere. In the new issue of Classic Rock – out this Friday – Peter Frampton talks about recent plans to release AI-assisted recordings of Humble Pie using "new" vocals from late singer Steve Marriott. "If they [AI technicians] can do it to Steve and they’ve done it to me, what comes next? How far will they go?” says Frampton. “For me there is no place for such fakery. Using somebody’s immortal voice for anything other than its original purpose is just wrong."

Would have liked to have given points in recognition of quality for Sonic Youth, Interpol, Editors, Strokes and maybe Primal Scream but although it pains me (especially Sonic Youth) there are just other bands I love more.

Yeah, that collection is pretty much my childhood.

I'm curious to know which definition of New Wave this refers to. In the US it meant a lot of the synth pop and New Romantic bands whereas in the UK it was more things like The Vapors, XTC and The Police. Not Punk but a polished poppier version that followed on.
  11. I would just have liked Carole Ann Ford to have one last scene in the show before they recast Susan, assuming her health is up to it, she is after all an iconic actor in the shows history.
  12. One think I'm intrigued about is that during a conversation when discussing whether Susan was his Grandaughter, Ruby said something like 'so you have a daughter too', to which he replied 'not yet', and made refence to some guff about time, which seemingly contradicts previous Doctors (I think it was 10 or 11) who said they'd been a father and a grandfather once before.
  13. I haven't been overly enamoured with many things this season and there were still a couple of minor quibbles around the characterisation but that was an absolute belter of an episode and so well paced and put together that I'll happily overlook them. Even knowing what was coming didn't spoil it, in fact it heightened the expectation. Probably my favourite episode from the pen of RTD and it just goes to show how effective a well written villain is. Admittedly that relies on prior episodes as they're barely in this one but whatever

  15. Julio Iglesias was a former goalkeeper for Real Madrid for 4 years before an accident ruined his career and he switched to singing. This was a UK number one - paSFp8ujSd4
  16. You're right. Got BOSS and the Keller Machine's names mixed up. It's been a while since last viewing
  17. A lot of online chatter is saying Sutekh, who is one of the shows greatest ever villains but RTD said there was a connection to the third Doctor which doesn't fit with that theory as he was a fourth Doctor story. If it's a third Doctor villain there aren't a load that have much potential but a few possibilities - Chronos, Azal or the Draconians would be good but others like the Ogrons or Aggedor don't seem likely. Most of his other villains have reappeared subsequently so are unlikely, unless it refers to a specific individual like Azaxyr but that wouldn't seem likely either. Ignoring the third Doctor reference I thought it was going to be Hecuba as she' the Toymaker's sister and would make sense. Additionaly the Meep referred to 'the boss' who could be BOSS from Mind of Evil but that was seemingly destroyed, plus not that memorable as a villain.

Sainz is reportedly in serious negotiation with Williams, which actually looks a decent shout

Actually, yes. Don't know why that one slipped my mind. Must be getting old.

There's still a genuine possibility that Verstappen could be tempted to Mercedes given the new regulations (Newey departing, Red Bull's own engine being untested and a greater focus on the power unit for 2026) would suggest that there's every possibility that Mercedes could provide a better package than Red Bull might. Whilst I've little doubt that Verstappen could see off any other current driver in an equal car, there are a few on the grid who would give him a hard time with it - Leclerc, Hamilton, Norris, Piastri and Alonso mainly - so the unwritten agreement is that Red Bull want to keep things calm to stop him looking elsewhere. After all we've seen many times in the past how two elite drivers, free to race in a top team can be disastrous and even tragic. Every body loves it but it's actually pretty rare and in my nearly 50 years of watching I've only seen it three times - Alonso/Hamilton, Senna/Prost, Villeneuve/Pironi (sorry Nico, just not quite there for me).

Agree with almost everything there but not sure Perez is that bad, more bang average but qaulifying is a weakness, especially when temps are lower. Sainz wasn't seriously entertained at Red Bull because of he and Max's past experience with each other. Marko described their pairing as toxic so it was not an option apparently.

Norris was in a very good position before the SC but in a reverse of Miami, this time luck went against him. Not certain he'd have still won it but would have been in a strong position and in control of his chances at least. George blew his own race once again with 3 errors - 2 off tracks and an ill timed attempt on Piastri. Hamilton was the better of the 2 Mercs yesterday and had he not messed up qualifying would has been a threat. Presumably Perez has a whole bunch of unreleased screenshots from Horner because his new contract is hard to fathom on driving alone (I know Red Bull don't see many other options right now). Verstappen put in another impressive and mature performance yesterday to win in difficult conditions with (somewhat in Checo's defence) a car that has looked some way short of the best this year, since everyone brought their upgrades along.

Decent race. Probably the right result but I feel Lewis ruined his chances on Saturday somewhere. Nice to see Ocon hasn't learned anything either. Gasly had a slim chance to attack Ricciardo at the end but Esteban purposely delayed the switch long enough to screw it up. He probably still doesn't understand why he's being dropped
