Not sure if you picked up on it but Norris was given first pitstop to protect against the challenge from behind when tradition would give it to Piastri. Had Pisatri gone first he'd have been much further ahead of Lando by the time they'c ompleted the stops. The trade off was by prioritising the 1-2, Lando would need to pay back the position later.

It was quite clear today that McLaren had organised a pre-race agreement that whoever was ahead at a given point, (whether it was end of turn 1, lap 1 or first pitstop) was to be the one to finish ahead in a 1-2 situation. Of all the teams, McLaren know more than any other (maybe Ferrari when they remember Villeneuve/Pironi), how a team dynamic can be destroyed by two drivers falling out over finishing positions. Norris was probably good enough to win on merit today, although Pisatri may have been driving to a delta time and Lando pushing when told not to, making him appear much faster but ultimately he made the right call for the team by giving way. Would Max, Lewis or Fernando have done it? Probably not, and there's a reason why they are all champions. It'll be interesting to see if Lando is willing to do it again. For McLaren it's pretty obvious they think they can overhaul Red Bull for the Constructors title and that's the one that matters to them. And given the McLaren's pace, Lando can probably still mount a genuine title challenge this year, but he'll need Oscar's help at some point, and this win will keep him onside.

The recording and release of Rattle and Hum was anything but low key. It came with a theatrically released movie! It was touted by the band and label as this all encompassing tribute to the history of Rock N Roll and of celebrating U2's rise to superstar status. The band were literally everywhere, you couldn't turn on the TV without seeing them, their videos or adverts for the film. They threw themselves in everyone face in a way that was even more obvious than forcing iTunes custoemrs to download their album. As the record didn't match the hype the quickly found themselves on the end of quite the backlash and it definitely stung them. Had it actually have been a low key studio only EP release it would probably have fared much better, finding its place without the bombast and hype.
  4. Weirdly despite this being a UK chart flop first time around it's probably better known than Big in Japan these days anyway

For me Desire is right where it belongs down this low. It was the first thing they released that I really thought was bad. It nicked all its best bits from The Stooges and Bo Diddley but somehow made them sound very ordinary. It and the subsequent album were their first big mis-step for me and I think it's fair to say it only went to #1 as it was the first new material by the current 'biggest band in the world'. I think they knew they had problems too, as they went away and thankfully re-invented themselves.

Whatever your opinion of the style, what's interesting is that the article comes from Deadline who are widely recognised alongside Variety and The Hollywood Reporter as the most reliable and accurate entertainment news sources, and they are rarely very wrong. The viewing figures may be ok at best but they're not near what Disney had hoped for, and a second series that's unlikely to be a major departure from the style of the first, would do very well to turn that around. If Disney are downplaying it they may be looking to cut their losses on it sooner rather than later. Additionally, I've heard that a lot of people who have previously worked on the show are reluctant to commit to it at the moment. None are suggesting a cancellation is on the cards though so there is that.

Upside Down is a Creation Records classic, landmark release. Would have scored high from me, had I entered. I love the Mary Chain but kind of wish they'd split up in 1993 after Honey's Dead and stayed that way, although that would deprive us of the lovely Sometimes Always.

Whilst it seems likely to be Ocon, I think that would be a terrible choice. He's not a team player and is unlikely to be a positive mentor for Bearman unless being dropped by Alpine has re-written his personality. He's also not obviously any better than other options like Bottas.

No worries. I fully expected to be the only one who is a big fan of the very early stuff, but that's when I first heard them.

An interesting read. https://deadline.com/2024/07/doctor-who-ana...bbc-1236008287/ On the one hand it's worryingly early to hear talk of Disney already downplaying the show and potentially pulling out. On the other hand, them doing so might be the best thing for the show. Either way if they did pull out it would be a big shake up, especially with the possibility open for Gatwa to walk already. I don't see him staying too long myself. He's very in demand right now and will be flooded with other offers. Too long in the role will potentially risk that.

Haas have announced the Kevin Magnussen will not be their driver for next year. However, they are yet to say who will partner Oliver Bearman, with much speculation still around several drivers on the current grid.

Get on Your Boots is truly awful if you were to ask me. Glad it's low on here. Two Hearts Beat as One is decent but quite average for their early period and it's no surprise to see it here but there's definitely worse to come

    That would be disappointing...

Surprised to see Joy Division so low here.
  15. It shouldn't be news at all, but since it is it's very pleasing to see such a positive response from everyone.

Just catching up after having been away. The Cramps invented what we now call Psychobilly - a blend of Punk and Rockabilly styles. If you watched the series Wednesday, it's their version of Goo Goo Muck that Jenna does her famous dance to.

Surprised that both the Pistols and the Roses didn't get more votes to be honest. They're both iconic bands that had a pretty huge influence on hundreds of bands that dollowed them.

Whilst I wouldn't put them in mt top 30, Led Zep were indeed great but I honestly forget they had any hits
