Russell was ahead indeed but because Bottas had already ceded the corner by the time Russell moved across to the outside he's therefore forced him off track. As for Verstappen the difference between yesterday and Las Vegas is that at COTA the car was deemed under control - misjudging the line does not automatically mean out of control - but in Vegas Max was determined to have lost full control due to the slippery surface, hence a penalty. If that T1 L1 incident had have played out the same in 10 laps time I suspect Verstappen gets a penalty

I can't yet comment on the Sprint and I'll have to look back at the event as I try to ignore them as much as I can, but in the race Russell does clearly force Bottas wide when he had no reason to, Valterri had already backed out of the move, so I agree that was entirely justified as a penalty. I agree that there's an exploit around the rules on your second point but that's a rules problem and not a stewarding one. It's worth remembering that drivers and teams helped to set these rules too. It's pretty clear some drivers know what they can and can't do more than others. Opening laps are always viewed much more leniently though and every driver takes advantage of that because they know it. Almost no-one ever gets a penalty for anything there as long as it's not egregious. However, I don't agree Verstappen forced Norris pff as he was clearly off the throttle and full lock at the time but most importantly Max was ahead at the apex on T1 so broke no rules. It was identical to that late race moment where Norris broke the rules by making it in to an overtake. I don't see anything in today's race that I take issue with, having seen repeated angles of the areas I initially thought were questionable.
  3. Jacked has been my favourite track for years but I have to admit I've found Warplane to be the first thing she's done that I find underwhelming

When it goes online, check out Anthony Davidson's analysis of the penalties around Norris/Verstappen and Russell/Bottas. I'm not certain those are the ones you're thinking of but both decisions are completely correct according to the rules. I initially thought the one for Russell was harsh but actually was right on further viewing. The Sky team's (Button, Davidson, Patrick) conclusion basically boils down to Verstappen understands the rules better than anyone else and the circuit's need tweakingwith gravel/grass to prevent this being an issue

That was a textbook example of how to defend against a faster car. And a Ferrari 1-2 is a great result

COTA really suits both the Red Bull and Max's style, not so much Perez though, as you can see from his grid position Additionally Red Bull identified their issues back at Monza and have improved the handling slightly since. Ferrari look strong here too.
  7. Quite a few there I'm familiar with and they're all fairly decent so that's a good start
  8. Fangtasy has been announced as their next single.
  9. I agree about '92 in general, though it did have its moments. Australia was one - 20 laps of Senna hounding Mansell for the lead until they collided, with Berger shadowing Patrese right behid them. Then as Berger fell away Patrese retired leaving Berger to fend off a menacing looking Schumacher. Weirdly I can recall that in great clarity but can't remember Canada this year that well at all.

I wouldn't have anyone from the current grid. You've got Hulk you don't need Bottas I'd rather somelone like Colton Herta, Pato O'Ward, Alex Palou, Theo Pourchaire or Felipe Drugovich
  11. A really eventful one and a proper wet race. It's the one where Senna's car suddenly appears through the spray as he smashes in to the back of Martin Brundle when lapping him. There was all the aftermath of Senna/Prost in Japan, the race started before the cars were ready, Prost pulled out, several accidents, Senna showing his utter dominance in the wet, a brilliant rive by Nakajima and only 8 cars finishing in the end. To be honest I should probably have given it points

Nick Berry - Every Loser Wins KF - HM
  13. Predictably my favourite Prince version of the songs he gave away is Kiss. He obviously agreed as he gave it to Mazarati, then as soon as he heard what they'd done with it he nicked it back! The beat, backing vocals and stripped back arrangement are all down to Mazarati and they never got any credit for it
  14. Yes and no. He himself didn't release them but both of them were recorded by him prior to giving them away and were eventually given an official release on the posthumous album called Originals There was a live version of Nothing Compares 2 U on his The Hits collection as well
  15. +50 1998 Belgium - A race that had pretty much everything, we've all seen it. I was lucky enough to be there so colour me biased but this one was unrelentingly eventful and I have so many incidental memories. 1979 France - Jabouille won but no-one remembers that. It's all about Arnoux and Villeneuve duking it out over the last few laps. 1982 Monaco - The one nobody wanted to win as five drivers all managed to bin it on the final lap. 1984 Monaco - Senna, in torrential rain and a piece of crap Toleman announces himself to the world by catching Prost's McLaren by 4 seconds a lap before the race was stopped. Bellof was catching both. 2011 Canada - The day Jenson Button defied everything the racing gods and mother nature could throw at him to pull off one of the most ridiculous wins ever in F1's longest race. 1985 San Marino - It was a lottery of fuel consumption where 5 drivers ran out of gas. Prost just about made it over the line and won it. Until he didn't 2016 Brazil - Whilst the 2 Mercedes tried to bore everyone to death a huge downpour made everyone else look like fools. Except Max Verstappen. Who put on a masterclass in wet weather skills. 1993 Europe - In typical British barbeque weather Ayrton Senna turns in the greatest drive of his life. In a dog of a car he passes 8 cars in a single lap and never looks back, 2000 Belgium - Schumacher aggressively blocks Hakkinnen, who loses time, and reacts by taking Eau Rouge at full tilt to make a 2nd attempt only to find Zonta is in the way. Stunning move. 1994 Japan - In terrible conditions Damon Hill momentarily achieves greatness and out-races Schumacher in the wet in an absolute nail biter of a race. +40 2005 Japan - Alonso passes Schumi at 130R whilst Kimi rises from 17th to win. 1996 Monaco - When only three cars completed the final lap, and Olivier Panis won, you know it was a cracking race. 1989 Japan - Senna & Prost collide leaving Prost as champion. Except Senna gets going again and wins, only to be disqualified on a technicality. The world still argues about who was at fault. 1976 Japan - My first F1 memory. Niki Lauda made a good point well, Mario Andretti won and James Hunt became my first ever F1 favourite. And world champion 1995 Europe - Jean Alesi was supreme in the wet on slicks, set to take a hugely popular win. Schumacher pitted and began catching him by nearly 2s a lap. It was cruel, ruthless. Sadistic even, but brilliant. 1992 Monaco - Mansell was unstoppable and everyone was asleep until a precautionary stop put him behind Senna. There followed 5 of the most exciting laps ever. 2 giants on top form. 2019 Germany - That race where Max Verstappen screwed up less than everyone else to take the win. A comedy of errors. If only Vettel hadn't started last. 1986 Australia - Mansell and Piquet go head to head in the season finale... and Prost wins. Mansell's tyre explodes and he wrestles the car to a safe stop. Had he have hit the wall he'd have been champion. 1994 Spain - There's much debate over Schumacher's best drive. Many say Spain '96, but for me, lapping equal to Hill's Williams whilst stuck in 5th gear for almost the whole race tops it... just 2003 Brazil - Webber leaves a gift for Alonso and it turns to chaos. It took a court case to decide if Fisichella or Raikkonen won. Alonso sat out the podium in a hospital bed and Fisi's car burst into flames once parked. +30 1991 Spain - Senna and Mansell inches apart, neither willing to give up position down that long straight. F1's ultimate pissing contest. 1981 Spain - The Villeneuve train. On lap 14 Gilles finds himself in the lead in a poor handling Ferrari and 5 cars queued up behind him. He kept them there for over 60 laps. F1's 2nd closest finish ever. 2021 Abu Dhabi - Contentious for sure but it was great entertainment while. 1999 Europe - Johnny Herbert records an unlikely and popular win by simply keeping his unfavoured Stewart Ford on the track whilst everyone else falls off 1987 Britain - Nigel Mansell hunts down team mate Piquet before pulling off a stunning bait and switch move. 1996 Spain - Schumacher earns the nickname Der Regenmeister after an incredible display that saw him consistantly 3s a lap faster than everyone else. 2019 Britain - Lewis Hamilton's superior Mercedes just can't get passed Verstappen, until the team pull him in for new rubber and send him out to hunt down the Red Bull. He does so with ruthless efficiency. 1989 Hungary - Mansell qualified his Ferrari in 12th place, which he felt was beneath him. Fired up he charged through the field to take the win. The Tifosi loved it and the legend of Il Leone was born. 2020 Turkey - Hamilton's greatest ever drive for me. Keep calm on a super slippery surface whilst everyone else can't keep it straight. 2007 Brazil - The title decider between Hamilton and Alonso with Raikkonen an outside chance. Both McLaren drivers lost the championship by a point. +20 1994 Australia - Schumacher's ban had allowed Hill to take the title down to the final race. Michael took the lead, until he hit the wall... and then Hill. It ended in tears for everyone except winner Mansell. 1995 Britain - Schumacher vs Hill crashgate pt 2. This time Hill was clearly to blame and it probably broke his reputation at Williams. Herbert came through to score his debut win after a tough duel with Coulthard. 1984 USA Dallas - Street circuit specialist Keke Rosberg wins on a day where the heat and a breaking up track claimed everyone else. Mansell famously tried to push his car over the line before collapsing. 2012 Brazil - Jenson Button wins his final victory as Alonso looks to win his 3rd title. Vettel had other ideas and did just enough to claim it for himself. 1995 Canada - Jean Alesi was hugely popular with his exciting style but the racing gods were cruel and denied him many certain victories. They smiled on him only the once. And they did it on his birthday. 1986 Spain - Prost, Mansell and Senna in a huge 3-way duel for victory. Prost faded away and the other 2 slugged it out, finishing almost side by side. Mansell joked it was so close they should get 7 1/2 points each. 2014 Bahrain - Nico Rosberg 'strongly disliked' finishing behind Lewis Hamilton and his desire not to do so brought a new excitement to the Mercedes pair. 1982 USA Detroit - John Watson starts 17th on the grid but battles through it all to finish 1st 1990 Mexico - Prost charges through the field from 13th to win but it was Mansell's pass on Gerhard Berger, around the outside of the Peraltada, that remains the talking point. 1986 Hungary - Piquest and Senna engage in a fierce battle with Piquet delivering one of the all time great overtakes. A four wheel slide around the outside whilst allegedly giving Senna the finger. +10 1995 Belgium - Schumacher qualifies a lowly 16th but asserts his dominance to take the win and further cement his reputation. 2017 Azerbaijan - Perez and Ocon cause chaos and Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton tangle as road rage takes over. Ricciardo keeps his cool to win. 1995 Australia - Damon Hill was the only front runner to finish the race as everyone else acted like it was the last day of school. 2018 Azerbaijan - The Red Bulls get racey with other with inevitable consequences. Vettel over cooks it and Bottas' tyre explodes. A sheepish Hamilton can't work out how he won the race. 2007 Europe - Markus Winkelhock leads the race for Spyker as turn 1 is re-named 'the river'. Fernando Alonso keeps it together to win. 2010 Abu Dhabi - Alonso leads the title race and Mark Webber and Vettel lie 2nd and 3rd. Hamilton an outside bet. It's cagey at first until Webber gets it wrong, Vitaly Petroc holds up Alonso and Vettel is champion. 1981 Monaco - The Loews hotel is on fire and water floods the tunnel. Piquest crashes from the lead as does Alan Jones and the crowd roars with delight as Gilles Villeneuve claims his first win in ages. 2020 Italy - Gasly takes his chance after a luckily timed red flag puts him in the lead. 1992 Australia - Senna rams Mansell from behind and Gerhard Berger holds of the two Benettons to claim his final win for McLaren. 2021 Italy - Ricciardo earns an unexpected but very popular win for McLaren

  18. Following a smattering of interest and perhaps an excess of indulging myself, I present to you The Purple Rate, in which the (mostly) greatest works of Prince - AKA TAFKAP, The Artist, Love Symbol, etc - are here for your perusal and judgement. Undoubtedly, one of the most iconic and defining artists of the 1980s, who for a good while rivaled Madonna and Michael Jackson in the public consciousness and who has an immense body of work but somehow remains overlooked by comparison to the aforementioned. And so in the interests of redressing the balance here are all of the Purple One's UK chart singles* combined with the lead single off of all his major album releases. This encompasses his solo work and that with his backing bands The Revolution and The New Power Generation as well as a couple of NPG tracks where he featured as either lead or joint lead vocals. I have dropped two UK 'hits' in The Purple Medley and The Beautiful Experience as they are simply remixed versions of other chart hits and bring nothing new to the table. Given the huge volume of work he created I will also allow each voter to nominate a wild card entry if they wish to. Please state which track you would like to include. However, it must have Prince as the named recording artist and not one where he only provided backing vocals etc. THE SONGS - Soft And Wet I Wanna Be Your Lover Why You Wanna treat Me So Bad? 19. I'm going to go slightly against the grain here on this one. First of all though I didn't love it, nor did I hate it (and I really don't like musicals) but fell somewhere in the middle depending on what was happening on screen at the time. It's nowhere near as bad as certain areas of the internet will have you believe and looking at the type of people who are getting REALLY wound up over it, I'm inclined to think it must be doing something right. What I do think though is that it is a movie not afraid to take risks, and I have to applaud that. Do all the risks land? Not entirely but at least they tried something different. Lastly though I really do feel this is a film that will be more appreciated over time, as the longer you think about it the more it reveals itself to you. This isn't a film that has been made in fan service and I couldn't be happier about that, as that's the death of creativity in films lately. What it has done though, is looked at the reaction to the first film, noted just how many people missed the point of it and decided we've done that and we're not making this one for you. You were never meant to view Fleck as a triumphant victim, he is a victim who becomes as much of a monster as the society that creates him. Both in the film and by many viewers he has been taken as someone to idolise and emulate but this was never the way you were supposed to see him and this sequel has quite smartly refused to indulge that attitude but throw a mirror up to it and show the viewer why Fleck is a tragic, pathetic and very dangerous individual. The use of Lady Gaga's 'definitely not' Harley Quinn is clever. Her role displays no traits of any version of the character and bears only a passing visual resemblance but she acts as a cipher for all those who watched the first film, and who idealised Joker and wanted more of his nihilistic chaos. They and by extension she, plays her role more as a Lady MacBeth figure urging Fleck deeper into his madness. It is the perfect metaphor for the toxic elements of the first films fanbase. The musical numbers are a bit too frequent, aren't particularly strong and very obviously signpost what any remotely objective viewer can already deduce from the scenes but they do leave you feeling that they're not the central core of the film. They showcase Fleck's mental health struggles in a way that other options really couldn't - long voice overs or scenes with Phoenix playing out the ideas through his physical acting would have been less effective. Whilst the musical segments are not that great they're ok although the Sonny and Cher bits were fun. The cinematography is beautiful and both leads turn in great performances. Phoenix yet again really sells it and add greater depth to the role this time but Gaga is the true spark here. I was never sold on her being right to play Harley Quinn but the saving grace is that she doesn't. It's something else and freed from the trapping of trying to outdo or match Arleen Sorkin, Tara Strong or Margot Robbie she's able to deliver something different but intriguing. Overall, yes it isn't as good as the first and it doesn't quite nail it in the execution of its ideas but if you go into it with an open mind and not expecting the same themes, violence and mood of the first film then will you'll be able to appreciate Folie a Deux for what it actually tries to do. It might be effectively Joker pt 2 but it really ins't trying to be just another film in the same mold. Most of the hate it's getting is because it isn't what the 'fans' wanted or expected but if nothing else it deserves the credit for what it does well and for taking risks so it's a 6/7 out of 10 for me.
  20. Yeah that first version was on the radio and tv all the time. Never heard the version in the second video. I actually prefer it. Mind you I don't like the song personally

OK. Sounds like there's enough potential interest for a Prince rate. I can set it up in the week.
  22. I've sent something in. Hope it's close enough in style to be valid
  23. I have sent my scores in. So hard to separate the top three though

Also, although there's a few already going on in here recently and mainly because I've rekindled my love affair with him would anyone be interested in/not object to me running a Prince singles rate? He always seems to be forgotten yet has a great catalogue of hits to pick from and I'm not convinced there's as clear a winner as some artists.
