  1. Have you ever heard Elton Motello's Jet Boy, Jet Girl? It was made marginally famous by Captain Sensible. If not, you should check it out. Then read the Wiki page to understand the story. An odd little history there.

Look forward to seeing what's on 1979. Definitely one of the most chock full of classics years for me, but it's right there in the period I started to realise music was my passion.

They might be probably the greatest band in history but their version of Roll Over Beethoven is nothing compared to the original (even if it is damn good)
  4. Day 9 - Woody Guthrie - Tear the Fascists Down The most recent new addition to my library that's from last century is this little ditty from the legend that is Woody Guthrie. I know plenty of his work but this somehow passed me by until I saw a version of it in the TV show Masters of the Air. First written and performed in 1941 originally although this recording is from 1944 I believe. -3xUPpkxAco

There's still a small glimmer for Ricciardo, in that Horner remains an admirer of his and will vouch for him, as would Max. And the other factor is that Daniel likes a car that handles in a very similar way to how Max does. Sharp at the front end and looser in the rear. Their driving styles are quite similar, which would suggest he could still perform in the Red Bull, if given a chance. Whether those in the team would be willing to take that gamble is a big if though and only another test would give them any inidicators but that's not really possible. As for Stroll, there are still a fair few rumours that daddy may be looking to sell for the right price rather than admit defeat.

  13. Re- The Stone Roses, dandy* is sort of right. It was not a single during any promotional phase for the album but was released 3 years later as a cash in by Silvertone Records, with whom they'd broken all ties. The UK releases of I Wanna Be Adored and Waterfall were also both not sanctioned by the band.

Yeah, it would but I was offered a free ticket so there's that. I'd never been to the Winter Garden before and I thought it was a decent enough venue, plus it was last night of the tour which made it all very silly. I saw there was some kind of medical emergency at the Dome. Do you know what happened?

Yes, they're both on there. As well as tons of other genre stuff. Although sadly there's lots of great and important stuff (like SPK for example) that isn't on Spotify

I can definitely help with that too, if you like. I already have a 4hr one that goes from 1977-94 and an Industrial Rock one that goes from 1988-95 and runs for 7 hrs. So I can certainly swing you some suggestions.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I'm well aware that Rock is not the sites preferred genre and this particular era can seem very old hat to modern ears but there's some great songwriting that can often get overlooked. I hope those unfamiliar with the tracks can find something new to enjoy from this compilation. I've very much enjoyed working on this and look forward to the next one. Plus, if there'e any chance of doing one for Punk or Goth I'd like to stick my hand up

Whole Playlist Disc 1 Disc 2 'Classic Rock' for want of a better term, covering the 1970's and formative 1960's releases that paved the way for the birth of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. A genre whose early influences included such diverse styles as Blues, Jazz, Classical, Psychedelia, Garage Rock, Rock N Roll and Rhythm & Blues. The collection is presented in a loosely chronological order, limited to one track per artist and has been compiled to showcase the most important and recognisable tracks by the greatest artists of the era, whilst eschewing slower songs and ballads. Additionally, in the interests of brevity and the desire to feature as many tracks as possible, some of the longer songs are represented by their single edit. Disc 1 - 1964-1974 - Opens with The Kinks' You Really Got Me, the song many cite as starting the ball rolling for others to run with. A number fo essential and groundbreaking acts follow - Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and Cream likely need no introduction and they are followed by lesser known yet hugely influential acts like Blue Cheer and MC5 who helped inspire Grunge and Punk years down the line. By the turn of the decade Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath had laid the templates, respectively for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, that would endure for decades to come. Where the late 60's Hard Rock had arguably been led by American acts it was Britain that can claim the Holy Trinity of Sabbath, Zeppelin and Deep Purple. The disc closes out with Lynyrd Skynyrd's Southern Rock epic Free Bird as 1974 draws to close. Disc 2 - 1975-1979 - Opens with Queen's iconic Bohemian Rhapsody, something of an outlier as the genre began to fully coalesce into a definable sound. As the 70's progressed Kiss ramped up the Glam element and both Judas Priest and Thin Lizzy pioneered the twin guitar attack. Heart, The Runaways and Pat Benatar proved early on that this was not just a man's game and Meat Loaf had one of the decades most iconic and biggest selling albums. As the 80's began to loom in sight a New Wave of British Heavy Metal began to emerge with the likes of Def Leppard at the forefront, whilst America's Van Halen showed exactly where the US sound was heading, as they covered the song that started it all, bringing the whole collection neatly full circle. Of course there will always be classics that get left out, usually because that band has several in their armoury, but the hope is this collection proves a solid primer and historical document for the first great era of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.

Well that trailer hasn't inspired me with any confidence, and my initial feeling is I may struggle to like this particular Doctor. These brief clips give me the impression he's more than a bit in love with himself with little else going on, and the one serious line - 'silly little battlefield' (Moffat for sure) felt very unconvincing. However, it's all out of context so far so I'm not rushing to judge. I did think Gatwa was very good in Masters of the Air, the only other role I've seen (aside from Barbie which I don't remember him in) so I'm not doubting his ability. Not yet anyway.

Oh blimey, now I feel I old. I bought Heart of Glass when it came out
  24. The overiding feeling I'm getting from the couple of tracks I've heard is that, aside from the obvious vocal differences (no-one sings quite like Byrne), musically the covers are pretty straightforward, and by the numbers. Yet what made Talking Heads' version of Take Me to the River so great was that it was distinctively their own take and quite different from Al Green's classic. Plus this Lorde version feels devoid of any spark. Still holding out that Miley will do the business though.
