Re-recorded with a full release (although the original is preferable to me)
  2. Norris needs to be really unlucky, really stupid or really off form to screw it up. He has all the hallmarks to file him alongside Hawthorn, Phil Hill, Surtees, Hulme, Keke Rosberg, Damon Hill, Villeneuve, and Button. An above average driver, somewhere in the top six on the grid, who found himself in the best car, drove decently enough and had a season where it all came together to give him a single title. Whoever wins the title, Verstappen, like Schumacher did in 1996, will win many admirers.

Fun fact - The last time a three way fight in the final round was won by the then points leader was Emerson Fittipaldi in 1974. There have been 5 such battles since and each time the driver in 2nd or 3rd position in the championship at the start of the race took the crown

Tsunoda is to remain at Red Bull as their reserve and test driver also

If Max had not collided with George in Spain he'd be 3 points behind Lando right now and arguably the favourite for the title. It will be a pity if that penalty (however deserved) makes a difference to the outcome of the championship next week

Adrian Newey has been appointed team principal at Aston Martin with Andy Cowell moving to chief strategy officer. It'll be interesting to see if this goes well or not next year

It's a made up festival anyway. Set on a date that bears no relation to date estimated as the birth of Christ and was just picked/stolen to suppress the original Pagan festivals of Yule and Saturnalia. In that sense it's all wrong. Personally I'm willing to put up with it lasting from Advent Sunday until Twelfth Night for practising Christians but everything else is commercially driven guff. Each to their own though I guess.

Well that was a welcome surprise

Whamageddon doesn't start until December because, quite reasonably, the idea of listening to Christmas songs in November is insane
  10. I give you the recorded debut of one Jon Bon Jovi.

    Yeah, a surprisingly dull Qualifying
  12. Strong approval for HotWax, Heartworms and Rosalia from that playlist. Far too soon for me to think about compiling my own though

Verstappen now holds the record for the most podium finishes from different starting positions - P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, P8, P9, P10, P14, P15, P16, P17, P18, P20 and the Pit Lane. And who would have predicted finishing 3rd from a pitlane start would feel like a disappointment in the end?

From the pitlane in the dry? Good luck! Think that'd be a first ever.

Unfortunately, I think that unless Lando DNFs tomorrow it's effectively all over.
  18. The only way it's going to be anything other than Wham or Mariah is if Taylor Swift knocks out a Christmas song and releases 5 different vinyl versions that week. I actually hope she does that too.

I think Leclerc was lucky to get away with his as Lewis was marginally ahead but I guess they decided lap 1. Max didn't get a penalty for cutting the corner as he gained no advantage after slotting back in behind Lewis, with Leclerc also ahead. He was well ahead of Russell before entering the corner Max/Lewis I'm fine with as Max was clearly ahead and had the corner at the apex. The Lewis penalty was justified as he wasn't ahead and cut the corner. He didn't return via the designated route but they gave him a pass on that due to overspeed. The penalty was for not giving up the advantage gained. Ferrari, being Ferrari, told Lewis the wrong reason so he was understandably annoyed... but misinformed. Russell was nowhere near ahead on the outside when he went wide and he went wide rather than pull out of the move. All on him that one. Lawson could well have got a penalty too. He did well to avoid the marshals but there were double waved yellows and he didn't look like he entered the zone 'prepared to stop' The VSC became necessary because Sainz parked his car just enough outside the barrier to mean marhsals had to enter the track area to ensure there was no fire.. Damn annoying but thems the rules. I think it could have ended sooner though. Ruined a potentially great ending.

I've found myself proactively disengaging withe the general fan base more and more lately. It's quite the shame really

Yet again, we're seeing reports of multiple brawls/fights between fans at a Grand Prix. This is becoming an increasing problem over the last few years and is coupled with an increase in abusive behaviour among fans too. I can't help but think that the way the sport is being sold to the masses now, in the sense of ramping up the drama (and rivalries that don't really exist) by both liberty and social media is a major factor in contributing to a lack of 'oneness' among fans. Online discussions are now a cesspit of name calling, conspiracies, lies and outright bile. I have fond memories of Schumacher/Hill or Prost/Senna fans good naturedly ribbing each other and it never getting nasty. Indeed I never saw anything but a shared love of the sport over individuals drivers. Whilst I'm sure that's still true for the majority, and there were almost certainly some moments in the past, it feels like we're starting to see a noticeable decrease in that spirit in favour of tribalism.
  23. In no particular order, these have been my favourites so far but these a whole other bunch I like too. Agree about Mr Brightside and I don't think it's their best track but thankfully I don't go to places that seem to play it every night. The Libertines - Don't Look Back Into The Sun The Coral - Bill McCai Linkin Park - Numb Jane's Addiction - Just Because Muse - Hysteria The Strokes - 12:51 The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) Franz Ferdinand - Take me Out Blink 182 - I Miss You Green Day - American Idiot Jet - Look What You Done Killers - Mr. Brightside Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now Ash - Starcrossed The Killers - All These Things That I've Done

According to the FIA, the VSC was employed because the Williams of Sainz was smoking and a potential fire at trackside - this meant marshals had to be deployed and the rules stipulate neutralising the race. I think they could probably use double yellows for a situation like that but the VSC was definitely active for longer than seemed necessary. Lando drove well enough in qualifying and at the start to make Sunday's race little challenge. Piastri meanwhile needs to regain his form if he wants the title, which is still very much a possibility. Max needs one more DNF from them both if he's to have any real chance. George needs to shut up with the whining.
