I don't agree that it's almost always. I even have examples of Now annuals where the song actually peaked in the year of release but ended up on the following year's annual edition. I think we will be going on what makes most sense or what allows us to include include more significant hits, over all. Looking at the 1989 compilation, we chose Inner City's Good Life so that we could include Big Fun in 1988 even though Good Life was released in 1988.

I also discovered a few tracks that I hadn't heard before while researching this. And gooddelta had great suggestions too which really strengthened the collection.
