I never liked Baby One More Time but I will always be proud to love Everytime and Stronger. I dont generally feel guilty when it comes to pop music. I would feel more guilt in liking a song from Nickeback or The Script.

I think we have different understandings of what open mindedness means.

 

For me it means approaching a musician or an album without having a pre-concieved idea of whether you will enjoy it or not and being open to the chance that the artist may have developed or changed sufficiantly from their previous work so that a new appreciation may be warrented.

 

I am listening to Electra Heart with this view point - in fact, I am being more open to this than if I was listening to a Katy Perry or Britney album.

 

Being open minded doesn't mean liking everything.

 

And, a Marina album isn't so important to my life that I would sulk if it's not to my liking. I would just listen to someone else and go back to her when she makes her third album.

Like anyone is going to believe than I am close minded..... :lol:

 

.....and I'd prefer if there were NO albums of this particular genre.

1995 for me was all about McAlmont and Butler/Yes and Blur's Universal. I understand that neither will be in the public's consciousness as much as Wonderwall or Common People.

I think Poker Face has been largely forgotten in favour of Bad Romance by now surely?

 

 

If I play Just Dance, Pokerface and Bad Romance - PF always comes out the worst. Just Dance is still great for me and BR is monumental 10/10 track - and I dont say that very often about a pop song.

Hitting the nail on the head (less so with "Wannabe" which I've never warmed to), it's a pure pop song that's a guilty pleasure because it's very well written. "Umbrella" would also be here had it been released in a higher sales climate.

I can't see me listening to this album for as many months as I did to Family Jewels. It feels light weight, bland and homogenous with all other current pop music. I dont really see the point in it when we already have this sort of pop music.

CMM is no worse than Wannabe or Hit Me Baby One More Time and I'd be happy for it to sell a million.

This reminds me that it will soon be 25 years since I fell in love with music and that I should do some sort of retrospective.

To me, this and Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know', while mildly pleasant, I have no idea how they're going to be both million-sellers. Ok, yeah, number 1 for a week at a push, but a million?! That puts it up there with Bohemian Rhapsody, Come On Eileen, Wannabe, I Gotta Feeling...all songs I can understand their success, but these?!

I like Call Me Maybe and love Somebody that I Used to Know and I'm a grumpy old bast*rd.

Their personal worth seems to be based on success rather than quality of output.

I've only heard of a few of the bands. I always discover a few classic that I'll br listening to for a log time in UP.

212 is really good. I love how it changes in the middle.

I've listened to my entry a few times today and I'm happy that it is quite an accomplished piece - possibly too accomplished for the indicenti around here. :lol:

There was nothing that I would be bothered with. I'd have preferred another Orbital track instead of Wonky and the Lana Del Rey 7" had mixes of Born to Die and Blue Jeans instead of the originals.

21st century one would get more interest.

 

 

How anyone can separate it from the average Coldplay song is beyond me.

 

I remember hearing it on the album before it became a single and thinking it was awful so it's not just the airplay and sales that make me dislike it - I disliked it from the start

I'd like to see a chart where sales have been divided by airplay and we'll see what comes out on top.

One more chart for Adele to top.... :D
