Mainstream pop has been a constant stream of club-y tracks for the last few years, with similar repetitive filtered synths that seem to be the mid-point between rave synths and trance synths.

Off the top of my head these have similar sounds

The Wanted - Glad You Came

    Katy Perry - California Gurls

    Taio Cruz - Dynamite

    LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem

    Rihanna - Only Girl

    David Guetta - Sexy Chick

....I'm sure I'm leaving out some obvious ones. The pop experts here will know more.

Oh, I forgot Calvin Harris...Radioactive sounds more like his work than anyone elses.

  2. Never liked her since that comment she made about being pissed off she wasn't more famous. It takes more work than an average album, with a shit lead single to be uberfamous, be thankful for what you've got. Now she turns to generic shit :D

I have to agree. Even if you feel you should be more famous, saying it makes you look like an arrogant twat.

  3. It's good! Nothing OMG WOW AMAZING, possibly I had too much expectation, as I really did love all the singles from 'Lungs'. It's more than likely a grower for me, but then I don't have a desire to replay it... :(

I think it is much better than anything on the first album except maybe Cosmic Love. There's no shouting in it, it develops well, it's layered and it's a grower. I love it.

  4. Yeah but that's the problem especially if you don't like mainstream pop which on the whole I find vacuous and boring, not words I'd applied to Marina previously.

Indeed. Marina has already done superior pop with Oh No! and now she's just debased herself by using the 2010/2011 pop sound. It will date very badly.

  5. IMHO this is BRILLIANT. Don't take it at face value, it's essentially a style parody of all the singers that are currently popular but with very Marina lyrics, and her lyrics are superb as ever. Fear And Loathing is great too, and I'm thinking that Marina could do an Adele and out-do Florence this era :D

are you quite sure it's a parody?

    Interesting.

But using this and the All Time 100 we should be able to produce a list of sales when these singles were not number 1. The big selling 1-weekers like Never Ever or Heartbeat/Tragedy would do well.

    But why specify then?

Because Haus of Gaga design and create Gaga's outlandish outfits. And this is Bjork in a bespoke outfit. How can you not see that whoever designed and created Bjork's attire on the album cover are in the same business as Haus of Gaga and are comparable?
