Britney's Manager Takes A Jab At Perez Hilton
Perez Hilton has been bumlicking GaGa and her new single in general at the moment treating it like it's God's gift to pop music; but the poll shows that people who read his site disagree with him and prefer Brintey's single and shows that he has turned into a obsessive fan out of touch with his own readers. Britney's manager is just taking this victory because Hilton has been excessively looning for a while now and a lot of the hardcore GaGa fans have been boasting about the records she's breaking etc etc. Basically. EDIT: but also what Jakewild said, Hilton is an intolerable wretch.

7/10 at the moment, and I'm pretty much in the same boat as Slick.

BJSC XXXI | Final Voting
Sorry Robot, intended to do it this morning, but have only just got the chance to get on now as my mum was on the computer finishing a report for work. Second contest (after UP4) that I haven't voted in, I feel so dirty :(

Buzzjack Film Club | February 2011 | Discussion
Would it be okay to jump in Chris? I could get a copy by next week if I don't download it before hand. A film club is a fantastic idea by the way.

BJSC XXXI | Final Voting
I may not be able to vote by the deadline, I'm also guilty of thinking I had more time (I know, I know I should learn2read). I've only listened to half of the songs, and I will be off the computer soon. I will attempt to get up early tomorrow to get it in by 10am if that's okay.

'Born This Way' • 1st Single Thread
Here is the US airplay afternoon update for today. Born This Way - 1,096 spins AC: 4 Hot AC: 110 Rhythmic: 141 Top 40: 841 I wonder where her Audience Impression will end up by the end of the week? She's already on 25 million so far, and inside the Top 30 airplay. I think this song is so caught up in all this hype that it won't come down for a while, despite the lukewarm response. Personally, this song isn't holding up in terms of listening to this song on repeat. There doesn't seem to be any room in the song to breathe with the pace being overly fast making it a bit tiresome to listen to after a while. Despite that I still maintain my opinion that it's a strong single overall; I'm rather looking forward to hearing it acoustic though, I quite liked the snippet she sang at the VMAs. EDIT: Here was the final update for saturday: Born This Way - 2,322 spins AC: 8 Hot AC: 249 Rhythmic: 304 Top 40: 1761 So she was just 134 more plays away from breaking her own record :o So far then Spins: 4777 AI: 45.662 (+ 20.579) Insane.

I thought she was referring to God, although I may be wrong. Edit: Regina beat me to it.

BJSC XXXI l Predicta
I will do mine later aswell when I've finished listening. I also can't see Neon Hitch winning it, I think being known before the contest could damage its chances. Although it will almost certainly go Top 5.

This really, I don't she what she did that went beyond simple and opportunist promotion. She is guilty of calling it the "anthem of our generation" but if she doesn't believe in the power of her music, then who the hell will?

Four listens in, and I think I'm fine saying I more than like it, love it in fact, I agree with Tom that it's surprisingly subtle and also sincere when in action (the delivery of the 'born to survive' line gave me goosebumps every time I heard it), and yes it's bloody feel good aswell. The real test, of course, will be the cultural impact that people (especially GaGa herself) say this song will have. It's impossible to tell that from the immediate internet reaction. I think if she manages to bring an excellent Grammy performance to the table on sunday, and she gets the critics on her side (which seems likely from all the stuff Tryon has been posting) then they could be right.

I like it personally, it's effortlessly catchy and the lyrics work much better when listening to them in the song itself, although clearly the hype was larger than the sum of its parts. I doubt very much the Madonna and 80s disco influence in general wasn't intended to be seen as a homage (or rip-off whatever side of the fence you sit on) it's not like she would think she would get away with it - I mean it is Madonna.

S02E12: 'Silly Love Songs'
Overall, this was a pretty terrible episode. The messy love archs are tedious to watch, and with everyone switching their minds on who they like it makes the "emotional" moments seem insincere to the extreme. The individual musical performances have also been car crash, except Dalton who are managing to keep the Glee Club feel alive at the moment. Also, Quinn is dire now to the point I cannot even see why I liked her so much in the first place; she always takes such a moral high ground; plus, she is an uninteresting, irritating, hypocritical wretch. It also seems like they are mashing the now not-happening Christian fanatic character with her, which is not a good sign. Why they didn't follow up on the great friendship storyline she had with Mercedes at the end of last season I will never know, but right now Quinn and Finn are the worst (or at least have the worst storylines) out of the main characters. The saving grace of course was Santana, she rules the show right now and is above all these insincere storylines Lauren, Kurt/Mercedes/Rachel and Kurt in general were the only other highlights.

S02E11: 'The Sue Sylvester Bowl Shuffle'
Over 100 million for the Superbowl I believe. I think some of the highest ratings for ordinary shows are like 50 million + for series finales of popular shows like M*A*S*H and Friends. American Idol at it's peak got over 30 million too. But considering where it started, it's massive, and it's matched the peaks of hyped shows like Lost and Heroes. EDIT: M*A*S*H holds the record with 50.15 million outside of the Superbowl. The most watched television broadcast in American history was the Super Bowl XLV, which was watched on average by 111 million people with 162 million watching at least a portion of the broadcast :o 1 M*A*S*H series finale: "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen" 50.15 million 2 Dallas episode: "Who Done It?" aka "Who shot J.R.?" 41.47 million 3 O.J. Simpson murder case 39.21 million *Spoilers if you haven't seen it yet* Also, the episode was pretty good aswell, probably the best of the lackluster second season. I thought it was well directed, very energetic and no one managed to say anything to p*** me off or do something that was stupidly out of character. Lauren is fast becoming my favourite along with Santana aswell. I also disagree with Theo, I loved Sue's rant, it brought back the feelings of amazingness that was Season 1, and as long as it's only once in a while, I'm fine with it. I laughed out loud when she interupted Bestie and Will, and when in the middle of the chaos and dramatic music, she tried to throw a bowling ball? and roll it and it barely moved. I agree with Tyron that I'm interested to see where the storylines go, considering the ending. Rachel and Finn will most likely wind back up together by the end of the season no matter what hurdle they put in the way, and I'm still thinking Sam (who I think will turn out bisexual) and Kurt will happen; which seems more possible now that they seem to be trying to break Sam and Quinn up.

Elton John & Lady GaGa - 'Hello, Hello'
The GaGa duet version will only be used in the film itself, and won't be on the sountrack (just Elton John's solo version). Which is why we haven't heard it yet.

'HereAfter'
Matt Damon has recieved positive reviews and Eastwood has been equally praised for his direction, but the script has been critcised for being ridiculous and contrived. Although, it's Mark Kermode's film of the week despite all its faults so I may give this a go. I would rather watch this than Biutiful.

Rabbit Hole (Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart and Dianne West)
Saw this a while back, but haven’t been on Buzzjack for a while to comment. The film as a whole is stripped back and brightly lit, which helps maintain a realistic, quite harsh tone throughout. What I particularly liked was that it never sets out to manipulate emotionally or to be too overly dramatic – at first the restrained feel seems a mile away from Mitchell’s previous film Shortbus, which was far more open (ha ha) and out there, but it turns out it’s not that much of a leap for him. His dark humour emerges during scenes like the weed smoking sessions and both films deal with spirituality and the idea that everything is connected (in Shortbus sexually, in this it explores that concept through the idea of alternate dimensions). Nicole Kidman was indeed as fantastic as everyone has been saying, giving a very raw, honest and emotive performance without every falling into cliché melodramatics which she so easily could have done. She played the character with a dry, sardonic sense of humour, (the couples counselling scenes in particular) clearly in part to help show her character detaching herself from her grief; but with the sadness and emptiness only lurking beneath the surface – in her mannerisms and her eyes - so when she finally does break down at the supermarket and in her car, it makes those moments all the more powerful and hard hitting. She should get the Oscar in my opinion, and even though the winners seem locked down, I would cheer (internally of course) if she did cause an upset. I loved Portman, but I don’t think the performance was so excellent as to deserve to be the runaway favourite. Unfortunately, due to outside factors it’s inevitably turned out that way. Maybe I’m just being anti-populist but whatever. In an ideal world Eckhart would have also been nominated for his performance, as the husband who’s trying to reach out to his wife while at the same time unable to move on from his own pain. Unfortunately, I guess Kidman’s more “showy” performance took the attention away from his more introverted one.

Rabbit Hole (Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart and Dianne West)
I've been wanting to see this for a while now; the trailer and subject matter reminds me very much of television show Six Feet Under, and seems the perfect thing to fill the void after I finished my marathon run through (I highly recommend it btw). Anyway, the film itself focuses on married couple Becca and Howie, who must deal with the unthinkable: the death of their child Danny. The title is in reference to how unreal a person feels after such a devastating loss, like Alice feels when she falls down the rabbit hole into a bizarre, new world in Alice In Wonderland. According to reviews, it's supposed to be a sensitive, at times humorous, portrayal of a difficult subject matter with incredible performances from all involved. There is a lot of Oscar buzz at the moment around the cast, especially Kidman. The film is adapted from the Pulitzer and Tony award winning play of the same name by David Lindsay-Abaire and currently has: a 88% rating on rottentomatoes after 16 reviews; a 75/100 score on metacritic based on three critics and a 8.1/10 rating on IMDB after 427 votes. Release Dates: 17th December 2010 (US - limited release); 4th February 2011 (UK) Director: John Cameron Mitchell Screenwriter: David Lindsay-Abaire (adapting from his own play) Starring: Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart, Dianne West, Sandra Oh and Miles Teller. Synopsis: "Rabbit Hole is a vivid, hopeful, honest and unexpectedly witty portrait of a family searching for what remains possible in the most impossible of all situations. Becca and Howie Corbett (Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart) are returning to their everyday existence in the wake of a shocking, sudden loss. Just eight months ago, they were a happy suburban family with everything they wanted. Now, they are caught in a maze of memory, longing, guilt, recrimination, sarcasm and tightly controlled rage from which they cannot escape. While Becca finds pain in the familiar, Howie finds comfort. The shifts come in abrupt, unforeseen moments. Becca hesitantly opens up to her opinionated, loving mother (Dianne West) and secretly reaches out to the teenager involved in the accident that changed everything (Miles Teller); while Howie lashes out and imagines solace with another woman (Sandra Oh). Yet, as off track as they are, the couple keeps trying to find their way back to a life that still holds the potential for beauty, laughter and happiness. The resulting journey is an intimate glimpse into two people learning to re-engage with each other and a world that has been tilted off its axis." Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 & 2
*cough* Guillermo del Toro *cough* Also, I agree about Yates forcing the shaky and awkward camera work at times. I think it's most noticeable in Order of the Phoenix, but his style benefited Deathly Hallows for the tent scenes, and no matter how try hard the directing may have been for it, it made the Snatchers chase scene very visceral for me. And [+2] regarding the tent scene, it is the best moment for me in the entire series. It moved me more than any death has done so far.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 & 2
I think you have to look at it in context, compared to the first two awfully twee movies, Cuarón took the series and gave it a complete overhaul aesthetically (which Rowling has publicly stated is truer to her vision than Columbus's Hogwarts was) and his vision has been the cornerstone of the series ever since. His offbeat direction was also a breath of fresh air, and he seemed to infuse his move with a sense of magic (without the tweeness). The one criticism that can be levelled at Yates is that he sucked that out almost completely in hs movies to make them more "gritty and realistic". Around other boards there seems as many people that dislike him as like him for this. I agree with you completely however regarding Goblet of Fire, the editing for that was fantastically awful; to the point I find it almost unwatchable.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 & 2
It very much will, although there is a 'big' debate going on at the moment ever since Alice hit the $1bn mark earlier this year; that with rising ticket prices and the revival of 3D, more and more movies will pass what used to be considered an almost unreachable landmark; thereby making it less of an achievement than it used to be. Regardless, I think it will clear it quite comfortably and yeah it will be the first of the franchise to do so. Philosopher's Stone came very close with $974,733,550, although adjusted for inflation it would be well over. Worldwide grosses 1) Philosopher's Stone $974,733,550 2) Order of the Phoenix $938,212,738 3) Half-Blood Prince $933,959,197 4) Goblet of Fire $895,921,036 5) Chamber of Secrets $878,643,482 6) Prisoner of Azkaban $795,634,069 It looks like at first the rule of diminishing returns applied for the first two sequels before getting back its stride and hitting the ground running from Goblet of Fire onwards. It's odd however that the most critically accliamed of the series, is the least successful.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 & 2
Quite a sharp decline of 60% in its second weekend in America (falling faster than the last November Potter film, Goblet of Fire, which fell by 47% back in 2005); grossing a still repectable $50.3 million to lead the Thanksgiving weekend during the fri-sun period (over the total five day weekend it grossed $76,284,815). However, having picked up $220.4 million in 10 days, Deathly Hallows: Part 1 has manged to secure the highest grossing 10-day launch of the series, beating The Half-Blood Prince which made $201.2 million in the same timeframe. It is also gaining on last November's big fantasy flick New Moon, which grossed $230.9 by Day 10. Although when it comes to estimated attendance, it ranks #3 overall in the series, behind the Philiosopher's Stone and the Goblet of Fire. Overseas it has grossed a mighty $389,200,000 (although this figure may need updating) for a current worldwide total of $609,552,000. Source: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2996&p=.htm

Monsters
I think it's just been marketed in a similar vain to Cloverfield to try and get bums on seats where as in reality, from what I've been hearing/reading, it will be nothing like it. Here is the Empire review; http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/review.asp?FID=136887

Offt gooddelta, 20/1 my best odds ever and a big increase from your first odds aswell  overall though I'm about where I expected, hopefully f(x) will match Flyeaf for me in the end. I have no idea how to work out the actual odds so I will just list them in order of who I think is most likely to win. My top tier of songs are the ones I think will almost certainly be in the race, while the second tier are the outsiders who could sneak a high placing or even a win. Everyone else I don't think have much of a chance at all, but I ranked them as in, if there was to be a wilcard winner, who would it most likely be. In the race Xanaga // Natalia Kills - Break You Hard Kylienips // Yasmin - On My Own Botanikka // Kim Lian ft Future Presidents - How I Like It FSR Rontvia // Her Majesty & The Wolves - Stars In Your Eyes B.A.N.G // Lykke Li - Get Some ---------- Dark Horses Kopečka // Viktorious - When We Were 10 Ojnoj // Alyssa Shouse - Overnight Celebrity Dalisska // Killabite - Follow Me Home Numayania // Cristal Snow – Surrender ---------- Wildcards Hendinia // Adele - Someone Like You (live) Sangria // Gravitonas - Youth Is Wasted On The Young Torchwood // Chromeo ft Elly Jackson - Hot Mess Ashton // Jessica Mauboy - Forget Your Name Persephonia // Spark – Revolving Greenfroze // Black Cards - Dr Jeckyll & Mr Fame Yuxhaaq // Emii ft Snoop Dogg - Mr Romeo Tinnmark // The Pink Robots - Curly Lorikeet // Emma Dean - Sincerely Fearful N-lazone // Britney Spears - Over To You Now Zechonia // Valentine - Black Sheep Jamora // Simon Curtis – Diablo Bignia-Zaragovina // Greyson Chance - Waiting Outside The Lines UnoShake // Margo - Walking In L.A Skall // Electrik Red - So Good Quotosibb // Corinne Bailey Rae - Diving For Hearts Elëdan // Josh Groban - Você Existe Em Mim Caerfyrddia // Oesch's Die Dritten - Jodel-Time New Caprica // f(x) - Nu ABO United States Of Jack // Leilani - Madness Thing Isconia // Dreams Come True – Peace
