I came #28 last time; there is such a thing as picking yourself up and trying again.

UNKNOWN PLEASURES 3
Pigeons is a great song with an even better video; the two songs I'm surprised are doing so well are Towers and Criminal, two songs that seemed to me would appeal to BJSC voters but would bomb here: while I thought Boring Horror and Trøllabundin would be a shoo in for Top 10. I also thought the more pop oriented Wolf Gang would only manage mid table. Clearly, I have no clue. I'm glad Myraid Harbour has recovered from a poor start though, one of my favourite discoveries from the three UP so far. Looks like I will be matching my first song with an 18ish finish (if I can maintain it of course), still a good recovery from Bear McCreary last time and a Top 20 finish is nothing to be snooty about - I never do well in these things  I'm still hoping Seekae will sneek the win.

UNKNOWN PLEASURES 3!
There were a few songs that where either commerical rock or the more female/pop side of dance, that could also be popular with the people who participate in the BJSC; but I don't think there were any obvious case of this bar one (maybe two). Overall, at the top end, I thought the quality was very high but maybe not as unkown as the previous two as has already been discussed on here; but I've made just as many discoveries as in the other two, just with the quality at the bottom being lower. That being said, there were still four songs that didn't make my Top 12 that I would have been happy voting for. I'll give a shout out to those songs when my votes are revealed. Anyway, my No.1 song stands quite high above the pack for just being so moving. I was hesistant at first for giving it 20 points as I wasn't sure it would be as touching without the visuals, but everytime I re-watched the youtube video it went straight back at the top of my list. I also loved the videos for Hello and Pigeon, the later being such a bright, happy video (doesn't hurt that it has a lot of half naked men in there too) while the former had a great concept and was wonderfully directed. Quite liked how chaotic the video was for Serial Killer too, definitely went well with the music, and pushed me more towards the love on the love/hate scale.

I'm in a similar positition to everyone else; the songs are constantly swapping in my ranking, although I will give them one final listen through when I get back from school tonight and put them into my final order then.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 & 2
My local Odeon has recently converted their biggest screen to IMAX. Made me actually jizz, not only am I going to break my IMAX-virginity with Deathly Hallows, they are also re-showing Inception and Toy Story 3 and other summer films (including the extended Avatar) to showcase it. So totally going to watch Inception for the third time then  Also, at the Guardian review, the series has never really been critically acclaimed (I think critics wise, Prisoner of Azkaban got the best reviews, while Half-Blood Prince was praised, quite heavily in fact, for its cinematography). As far as I can tell from sneak peeks, trailers, behind the scenes etc the writing, sense of humour, and acting seem about on par with the other films in the series, clearly it's not going to win any new fans. To me the Harry Potter films are events, it's literally my childhood on screen, there is no way in hell I will be missing this. The only film in the series I saw in the cinema and thought negatively of after leaving was Goblet of Fire. It was so poorly edited it is virtually unwatchable. EDIT: Empire has given it 3 stars http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/review.asp?FID=134946

The X Factor 2010: Live Shows (Week 6)
Why is Cher doing a mash up with Mockingbird? I have an issue with her covering rap anyway, but what relevance does the songs lyrics have to her at all? It would be laughable, if it weren't for the fact that people actually take her seriously. Other than that, fine songs choices, if a little typical at times.

Ruth Lorenzo 'signs with EMI/Virgin'
Apparently despite her trouble with EMI, she WILL be releasing her debut album through self-funding. Her lead single according to her official website is called Burn and she streamed an acoustic performance of both the song and a full acoustic cover of Purple Rain, which have since uploaded onto her youtube account. The Walking Dead
Here is the Empire article I was talking about Chris; they took it down for some reason (I think because AMC confirmed then it went back to being unconfirmed) and now season two is definitely happening the article has once again appeared on their homepage - Frank Darabont talks about bringing in Michonne next year, who is his favourite character apparently. You guessed right Chris. http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=28804 Really need to catch up on this.

X Factor Series 7 Ranking
01) Paije 02) Aiden 03) Rebecca 04) Matt 05) Wagner 06) One Direction 07) Mary 08) Katie 09) TreyC 10) Cher This year is the second in a row that I've been underwhelmed and will most likely never buy any of the music that they release. Also, before you ask, I think all the acts I ranked below a certain someone to be bigger joke than himself.

X-Factor: The Bottom Two 7/11
Aside from the song being contemporary, they are all subjective points you've made about the performance. Her fanbase I should imagine are the younger viewers, who tend not to vote anyway, and that smaller demographic would most likely be hoovered up by One Direction, so I don't see her being the unstoppable force everyone else seems to. Also if rumours are to believed, bar last week, she hasn't been doing as well in the voting as has been the general assumption thus far. Not to mention she went on first and her performance was swallowed up in the crapness that was the first half of an overall underwhelming week. I think she may have got an inital surge when the die hards vote for their respected favourites the moment lines open; but despite that she won't get many casual votes tonight as Mary (has a bigger voting fanbase then her) and Wagner (performed latter than her) will, and will therefore fall down to the bottom three. Of course this is a long shot, and my intense dislike for her might be clouding my judgement: but that was my gut instinct, and I decided to go with it, instead of choosing the safer option of Mary/Wagner as the third contestant (that will join the inevitable Katie and TreyC) at the bottom.

Kesha - Cannibal // Remix Album
I agree with others who say that Buttersotch and Booty Call should have been considered for her new EP rather than a remix of the awfully dull CUNxTuesday, although I'd add Heart Fall Out, Disgusting, Chain Reaction and Friday Night Bitch Fight to the list as well; she should at the very least use these gems as B-Sides for her singles. Also I'm loving the Nicki Minaj-esq tinge there is to both Sleazy and Cannibal, along with We R Who We R, three of her best tracks in a row.

Downton Abbey
Didn't know about this until just now, but the show has been commisioned for a second season next year. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/a28157...ond-series.html Really disappointed this is the last week, it's become a sunday night staple for me and my mum, and it's been a while since I've got so pantomime about a show: I literally booed Thomas and Miss O'Brien; swooned when Mary and Matthew finally got it on and sighed when Bates and Anna were interrupted (although I will eat my hat if they don't kiss as one of the dramatic final scenes next week). Dame Maggie also got one of her best lines of the season last sunday when she snapped that Sybil has no opinion, and will have to wait she is 'passed on', and then she will have to think only what her husband allows her to. Of course this was said in a much more witty way then I've worded it, but it was the unexpectedness and the delivery of it that had me in stitches  A fantastic 9.21 million viewers also tuned in last sunday, the fact that it's audience share has grown despite the competition from the BBC with David Tennent's first, post-Doctor Who drama is quite an achievement; no wonder ITV want a second season. As a side note, Julian Fellowes has gone down in my estimations a bit after complaining in an interview with The Sunday Independent about the unfair criticism from "the left". I don't see what politics has to do with this at all. Also, we all know that he has clearly been 'inspired' by classics, so it was quite humourous seeing him trying to wiggle out of it by saying "Some of the scenes could have stuck in [my] mind. Who can say what is lodged in one's brain?, I am not conscious of lifting either, but it doesn't mean [the viewers] are wrong." Although he does have a point regarding people who nitpick about minor goofs.

BJUSC XXIX - Final Results!
Thanks for the support (and for the 15 points) and I loved the animation as well! To be fair, SHINee did a hell of a lot better than I thought it would, me and my friends loved the track (some of them hate Asian pop normally too) which made my mind up about entering it; I was hesitant, because the last time I entered a Korean song it was by a girlband, with a Europop track that only managed about 40 points and a bottom 10 finish, so to get almost 100 points (well 94, but y'know close enough) with a boyband that seemed unpopular to even the few Asian pop lovers around here, was a great achievement. Which reminds me, I very much needs to thank; Ojnoj, N-lazone, Botanikka, Espen, Xanaga, Torchwood, Lievant, Sangria, Numayania, Kingdom of Shadow, Ashton & especially Eledan, Jamora (again :D) and Lorikeet for the 15 points. Also, an extra special shout out to Ljósið, I was so chuffed when you put SHINee in your sig for a while, I'm glad I managed to create at least one mini-loon  And lastly, thank you to Ashton for being a great, enthusiastic host! Despite the few technical hitches I hope it lived up to your expectations Phil :D One final thing, I sucked big time at keeping my identity secret, looking at the 'Who Is Who?' thread I think pretty much everyone guessed it was me who entered SHINee

Black Swan
I'm desperate to see this, and just from the trailer alone, it reminds me a lot of Mulholland Drive. Plus, it currently has a 8.9 rating on IMDB, and a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (18 good, 2 bad). The artwork and the trailer for this have been stunning in their own right, I looned so much I had it in my sig for a while, although in the end you beat me to actually making a thread  http://www.empireonline.com/images/image_index/hw800/45354.jpg http://www.empireonline.com/images/image_index/hw800/45353.jpg http://www.empireonline.com/images/image_index/hw800/45352.jpg (My favourite ) http://www.empireonline.com/images/image_index/hw800/45351.jpg I doubt very much this will win Best Picture however, it's a horror/thriller and they are notoriously overlooked by the Academy (the first and last horror film that won was Silence Of The Lambs back in 1991) although Portman is getting a lot of buzz, so she might be worth placing a bet on.

iTunes Chart: November 2010
For UK urban to be successful it has to have a pop/dance influence, which Dizzee Rascal realised, and other artists followed. There is a lot of talent in the UK grime scene, but they won't have success unless they follow the now tired forumla, which betrays that originality, turning itself into a vicious circle; Cher is a shining example of what UK urban is being reduced to - commericliased, americanised and boring, which is the complete opposite of what that genre is supposed to be.

BJUSC XXIX - Grande Finale
Voted, sorry for cutting it pretty fine Phil, just did some last minute shuffling! Really happy about the songs I voted for and the points I gave them, some gems at the top, although there were some really tacky, filler songs to wade through.
