  1. No problem goodelta, just trying to help. Oh okay, it's lucky you've got James as back-up then, I'm not sure I would be able to do that anyway, although it might be quite fun to give it a shot one time.

I agee with EMA on principle, but in some cases, it can be abused e.g. a lot of students seem to think it's just pocket money, and they use it to go to gigs, have a night out, when it should be used to buy school books etc.
  3. What exactly are recaps? If I can, I would be happy to step in if Pavel can't.

  5. Airplane 1 + 2 The Naked Gun Hot Shots Shaun of the Dead Hot Fuzz Slither South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut Superbad Knocked Up But my favourite is black comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous (I talked about it more on the favourite films thread.) Best mockumentary ever made (I haven't seen 'This Is Spinal Tap', but I doubt it could better this) pure comedy gold that is painfully unknown. The whole film is on youtube, and if you've got to time to kill, you can't go wrong with this. UPVbhMkNjKo&feature=player_embedded
  6. Sorry gooddelta, I'm going to take advantage of the chance to change. Country: New Caprica Artist: Hot Sauce Johnson Song: Lost Picasso (I Don't Want to Be) Video link: bTpwiFKZ3g4 It's more upbeat and fun than than my original entry, the only downside is after searching for ages, I can only find one link for the song. The video is fan made, and the sound quality isn't ideal, but it's the best I could find.
  7. Could someone tell me where I can hear the album please?

No problem ^_^ Drop Dead Gorgeous is such an underrated gem of a movie. The trailer doesn't do it nearly enough justice. Denise Richards and Kirstie Alley both have incredible comedic timing, it's such a shame they both seem to have faded, but Kirsten Dunst is equally great as the innocent all-American girl, who has an underlying ruthlessness sparked by ambition. It also shows how great Brittany Murphy was at comedy and it's Amy Adam's first movie. Plus, the film has Allison Janney, who I absolutely adore and she is, as always, fantastic. Everything about this movie is great, especially the script which is brutally honest in its portrayal of a small town in midwest America. The soundtrack is just the icing on the cake. The whole movie is on youtube if you want to watch it. Here's Part 1 UPVbhMkNjKo Martyrs is another gem, and proves just how good European horror is of late, and it's one of the few horror films that I found genuinely disturbing and thought provoking. If you do end up watching either movie, let me know what you think.

People need to realise that Madonna was revolutionary in what she has acheived and the boundaries she pushed, especially in video. GaGa has achieved a lot in two years, but it is ingnorant to put her on the same pedestal as Madonna. GaGa is yet to make a career defining album, although I am confident she will; she is only 24 years old, and has made one album, she has got a lot of time yet to grow as an artist and discover her individuality. That being said, the Alejandro video is extremely ambitious, and in a time where mainstream pop music videos are becoming more and more generic by the day, it should be applauded for that fact alone, and on the issue of "copying" their is no doubt there are a lot of nods to Madonna, and I'm sure she is not stupid enough to think she would 'get away with it too', it's all deliberate. The video itself was beautifully put together regardless, and despite the Madonna 'rip-offs' homages' whatever you want to call it, the video has its own messages and concept (no, I'm not saying it's a completely original concept). Plus, and I am talking in general here, nothing, absolutely nothing, is created out of a vacuum.

Can't believe how quickly these last few months have gone. Also, Ryan Kwanten seems so different from Jason.

I posted some suggestions a page back, but I thought I would add to it. Starting with Six Feet Under (2001-2005) http://www.onetimesone.com/music-reviews/six-feet-under-everything.jpg Six Feet Under - Is a showcase for writing, acting and directing. Seriously the most consistant and well made show I will ever have the privilege of watching. Not to mention the soundtrack for the show is amazing, and it is one of the most influential shows of the noughties (pretty much ever dysfunctional family drama owes itself to SFU breaking the mould: Nip / Tuck especially). It's won numerous awards, and broadsheets went crazy for this show (The Guardian still writes about the show every now and then). It initially aired on Channel 4, repeats are sometimes shown on More 4, but they've stopped. It centers around the Fisher family who own a funeral home; the creater of the show wanted to explore the people behind the funeral running business, and how it must have effected the people who lived, and the kids who grew up, there. The funeral home and the strong theme of death is juxtaposed against the backdrop of the young, bright thriving city of Los Angeles; the show opens with the death of the patriarch of the Fisher family Nathaniel (who shows up in the Fisher family's dreams, and daydreams), and shows how a family in the buisness of dealing with grief has to deal with it themselves. Every episode opens with someones death, and in a sort of dead-person-of-the-week format, shows the Fishers arranging the burial of said person. It deals with death in such an upfront and honest way, and at the same time shows the beauty of life. The characters are; Ruth, the matriarch of the family, an uptight housewife in her 50's. She is distraught after her husband's death, and feels guilty for the affair she has had for years with a hairdresser, and after Nathaniel's death deals with her blossoming sexuality and her coming out of her shell. Nate, the oldest son, is an everyman who fears his own death and has avioided settling down in any one place and with any one person in a vain attempt at holding on to his youth. At the time of his father's death he is flying home to be with his family for christmas, and is shaken to the core by the news, as he must now face his own mortality. He has no responsibilty and reluctantly decides to honour his father's will and take over the running of the funeral home with his in-the-closet brother David, who is in a secret realtionship with lover Keith, who is getting increasingly frustrated at David for not coming to terms with who he is, after Keith leaves him for this, David really starts to explore his gay side and slowly comes to terms with it. Federico or "Rico" is the gifted mortician, who wants to become a partner to help support his growing family, and his pushy pregnant wife Vanessa. Claire the young, wild, artistic daughter who feels disconnected from her family and the world around her, and really, is the soul and life of the show. Brenda Chenoweth is a strange, kooky, manipualtive woman who Nate meets on the aeroplane home in the pilot, and they have that classy, sex-in-the-airport-closet moment. Their volatile relationship continues and we are introduced to the rest of the f***ed up Chenoweth clan, who are messed up in the oppposite way to the Fishers - they are too carefree to their restraint. Brenda's bi-polar brother Billy, who is unstable and has a unhealthy obsession with his sister, is not happy i the slightest with her new boyfriend Nate. Brenda's mother Margaret, who's one liners are just classic, is a free loving Psychologist. Other notable guest stars include Lili Taylor, Kathy Bates, James Cromwell, Peter Facinelli, Patricia Clarkson and Mena Suvari. Plus, for all you True Blood fans, the show was created and run by the same man (Alan Ball). So you have a good idea of how f***ed up things get. Wiki sums the show up as this: "The show revolves around members of the Fisher family, who run their funeral home in Los Angeles, and their friends and lovers. The series traces these characters' lives over the course of five years. The ensemble drama stars Peter Krause, Michael C. Hall, Frances Conroy, Lauren Ambrose, Freddy Rodriguez, Mathew St. Patrick and Rachel Griffiths as the show's seven central characters. Six Feet Under received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its writing and acting, and consistently drew high ratings for the HBO network. Six Feet Under has frequently been described by critics as one of the greatest television series of all time as well has having one of the greatest series finales of all time. It won numerous awards, including three Golden Globes, nine Emmys and three Screen Actor's Guild Awards. It also generated controversy for its graphical depiction of sexuality and some of the themes it addressed. The show stars Peter Krause as Nathaniel Samuel "Nate" Fisher Jr., the son of a funeral director who, upon the death of his father (Richard Jenkins), reluctantly becomes a partner in the family funeral business with his brother David (Michael C. Hall). The Fisher clan also includes widow Ruth (Frances Conroy) and daughter Claire (Lauren Ambrose). Other regulars include mortician and family friend Federico Diaz (Freddy Rodriguez), Nate's on-again, off-again girlfriend Brenda Chenowith (Rachel Griffiths), and David's boyfriend Keith Charles (Mathew St. Patrick). On one level, the show is a conventional family drama, dealing with such issues as interpersonal relationships, infidelity, and religion. At the same time, it is a show distinguished by its unblinking focus on the topic of death, which it explores on multiple levels (personal, religious, and philosophical). Each episode begins with a death – anything from drowning or heart attack to Sudden infant death syndrome – and that death usually sets the tone for each episode, allowing the characters to reflect on their current fortunes and misfortunes in a way that is illuminated by the death and its aftermath. The show also has a strong dosage of dark humor and surrealism running throughout. A recurring plot device consists of a character having an imaginary conversation with the deceased; for example, Nate, David, and Federico sometimes "converse" with the person who died at the beginning of the episode, while they are being embalmed or planning or during the funeral. Sometimes, the conversation is with other recurring deceased characters, most notably Nathaniel Fisher Sr. The show's creator Alan Ball states they represent the living character's internal dialogue by exposing it as an external conversation." There are mild spoilers in the latter parts, although Part 1 is safe to watch, as it only talks about the concept and is all you need to get a grasp on the show. It is, it was one of Cameron's key ideas he kept talking about during the campaign and what Labour where ripping into in their adverts. Also as part of this "big society" anyone with enough money and/or is unhappy with the school system are allowed to set up their own school, which they think will drive up standards.
  13. Sorry gooddelta, I will remember to do that next time.
  14. Thanks ^_^ I'm not sure how the song will be recieved, but I adore it, which I guess is all that matters.
  15. Next contest. I've been obsessing about this song for ages, after hearing it in a trailer, and I finally found it. Also I was really undecided about which of their songs to use, so that's another reason Flyleaf have been pushed back.

  20. Which is why MacDonald should have gone through, he is old school Labour, and is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in, being banned from the House of Commons for a while because of his protest against the Third Runway. He was praised by a broadsheet (I can't remember which one now) for his honesty and integrity, during the MP expenses scandal. He has been a great MP for Hayes & Harlington for a good 13 years now. I'm gutted.

I echo this. It's extremely hard to pinpoint one single film, and there are different genres of film that appeal to me at different times. In general I love films that have a sense of wonder about them: or explore people, psychologically and as members of society; life and issues and themes that effect us (Religion, sex, death, love, friendship etc.). Films that deal with emotion. I guess I am a romantic at heart. If I had to make a list with trailers for people who are interested; American Beauty 6Q3ltyPJJMQ Towelhead v_6c1cOAe_Y Romeo + Juliet gjxHdNxvySU Sunshine RrWuwVfqRYc Changeling unHG3uNquy8 Batman Begins m7dapUWHykw The Dark Knight 8jqq4j52Fb4 The Magdalene Sisters Hga3kqwuBSc Doubt OnrmWLp1Ub8 Juno K0SKf0K3bxg There Will Be Blood ml2Ae2SIXac Drop Dead Gorgeous wKLSfnb-FMk The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring xv6hWlPudng I Love You, Phillip Morris yhjNNI4rs4s Martyrs ZNM9kKo4JNU There are more that I can't think of right now. Plus the amount of children films that I can list would be endless, some of my favourite films I simply love because they are part of my childhood, and some children films can deal with a lot of interesting themes, but are snubbed because of who they are geared to. There are also films that I really enjoy or love, but the only films that I would put on my list of all time favourite are ones that have a profound effect on me.

But if you raise the retiring age, couldn't that have a negative knock-on effect on the cycle by having less jobs opening up for younger people, meaning that it will be harder to reduce the amount of unemployed within that age group. Population trends show that there will be less teenagers in the coming years, so the working population will decrease. Long term either way this is needed, but I think this could be a legiment concern. On the point of the Liberals, it may have been something they conceded, but I still can't help but be disheartened by them simply ignoring and dropping the issue completely.

I echo these sentiments, and the ideas that others have come up with, but the economic crisis is being used as an excuse for the Conservatives to shrink the state back as far as they can. It's like letting the dogs off their chains. Cue the speeches by Osborne and Cameron, telling us that public spending cuts are going to be even more extensive than they orignally planned as they didn't know how dire the situation is that we are in. Yet, everyone seems to be trying to ignore the elephant in the room (Trident).
