So am I the only one that isn't impressed? It just seems to be Meryl Streep playing Meryl Streep; fitting in as many facial quirks as she can in the space of 10 seconds. I may not be expert, but Thatcher didn't really seem the smiling type.
  2. Yeah, I just meant it would be the first time I would be seeing it in the cinema (if they do play it, which I hope they do; they played it in front of First Class and The Hangover II and this would be great promotion) should probably have made that they more clear haha. Totally agree, it's an amazing trailer, one the greatest I've ever seen, to see it in IMAX with the music blasting would blow my mind. Yeah, I thought all we would get would be similar to the The Dark Knight one; the logo with a few lines of dialogue. But if the length is true, then I'm hopeful we'll get some images too. Saturday is going to be a good day.
  3. Rotten Tomatoes update: 95% positive critic reviews with a higher average score of 8.4/10. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/harry_pott...allows_part_ii/
  4. The poster has been confirmed, and what a stunning poster it is. If the story about the teaser is true, will be seeing it this saturday when I go to see Harry Potter; if they play the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo teaser aswell I think I will pass out from fanboy overload. The word is that it will be 1 min 33 secs long, over 30 seconds longer than the first Dark Knight teaser. Excited!
  5. I booked this as early as I could out of a paranoid fear they would all be gone closer to the date, but at least it means I've got to choose the ideal premiere seats. Cannot. Wait.
  6. The Guardian have given this a 4/5, with quite a glowing review. http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/jul/07...s-part-2-review So far on RT, it has a 100% rating based on 10 reviews (average score 8/10), considering how positive everything has been so far, it should retain a percentage in the high 80s when the reviews come flooding in next week. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/harry_pott...allows_part_ii/ Fun fact; the only films to have a perfect 100% rating on RT with over 100 reviews are Toy Story 2 (average score 8.6/10) and Man on Wire (AS 8.4/10). EDIT: Empire have also given this a 4/5 and Helen O'Hara's only criticism is that, despite what people normally say about the series, this one is a bit too fast paced http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/review....asp?FID=137029 It's current review total stands at 14 now on RT still with 100% and the average score growing to 8.1/10, early days yet; will be interesting to see how well it retains it's current ranking on there. For comparisons sake, Part 1 has a 79% rating after 242 reviews with an average score of 7.1/10. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban remains the critical darling of the series though with a 91% after 232 reviews and an AS of 7.9/10. I wonder if this will trump it? Just for the sake of it, the RT ratings for the entire series; 1) POA - 91% 2) GOF - 87% 3=) HBP - 83% 3=) COS - 83% 5) PS - 80% 6) DH (part 1) - 79% 7) OTP - 78% Press Conference Part 1 WVV9GowGPaM Part 2 8DP-nx3fWD8&feature=related Part 3 e3FP-nmkFL0&feature=relmfu
  7. Wikipedia? If you got the spare cash, it would be well worth going to catch them all at the cinema (starting tomorrow). Those speechs at the end of the premiere, got me a bit misty eyed I have to say, when Daniel Radcliffe made the point that we would carry the story for the rest of our lifes, and then Rowling concurred with, "The story will never die, whether you read it in the pages or you watch the films, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home" I felt on the verge of blubbering. It felt like only yesterday I was reading the books in primary school and going to watch Chamber of Secrets in the cinema. What happened?! I feel so old.
  8. This quite frankly, somehow having a basic knowledge of urban music has meant that she became the self fashioned champion of the UK urban scene while she was on the X Factor; her clear "rapping" talent was just misunderstood by the public, she was clearly the future us poor backwards thinking folk couldn't grasp; not that her 'version' of Keri Hilson's Turn My Swag On couldn't be found on many home youtube videos (a lot showing more talent than Cher did herself) or that she claimed a Swizz Beatz song as her own, or that 'rapping' a verse of a Jay-Z song and mashing it with another song does not make her some kind of creative genius; no, what she did was simply unheard of! Everyone who disagrees, just doesn't 'get' what she's trying to, or is just a plain hater
  9. "Eating alphabetti spaghetti and $h!tting out better lyrics than Cher Lloyd": this group speaks to me. Also, Jake I agree, her trying to pass off a Swizz Beatz song as her own was the turning point for me; I suppose she just assumed that no one who watched the show would be aware of his existance? That's the only explanation. jooLnnhTrbE "I've decided to put my own twist on it, so it's sort of like a rap, and I wrote my own lyrics aswell." AIht7jsvTX4 O dear. This all being said, I think the video for Swagger Jagger is good, not as cheap looking as I thought it would be; the song, Cher and her voice remain horrid though.
  10. And the Odeon (and I believe VUE aswell) are showing all seven previous films in the run up to the 15th starting this friday with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Tickets are only £3. I want to go, because PS is the only one I haven't seen on the big screen, but the single showing is pretty much packed out already :o

I would say it's a lot more fluffy than those two shows, it's a high concept show in the same vain as Lost, Supernatural or Heroes really. With added HBO sheen.

So who else has watched this or is getting into it now that Sky Atlantic are showing it from the beginning, to fill the gap that Game of Thrones left? It's got a pretty large cult following since it finished in 2005, but it generally seems to go by unnoticed. It does seem quite the hidden gem considering the scope and story seems rather epic indeed and HBO got a lot of stick for cancelling it after only two seasons. The Depression era dustbowl setting is an interesting one too. Plot: 1934, America. The Dustbowl. A fugitive named Ben Hawkins finds refuge within a traveling carnival comprised of a tarot card reader and her catatonic/telekinetic mother, a blind mentalist, a bearded lady, and conjoined twins, amongst others. The carnival is owned by the mysterious and unseen Management, who has designs on the young Hawkins, for the boy is concealing an untapped gift: he can heal the lame and raise the dead--at a price. Ben also finds himself disturbed by cryptic and prophetic dreams, which he shares with a Methodist preacher in California, Brother Justin Crowe. Brother Justin, convinced by his dreams he is following God's will, has begun to practice his own extraordinary talents, although the preacher's plans increasingly lead to disturbing and tragic consequences. In this "last great age of magic," Ben Hawkins and Justin Crowe are moving toward a great conflict between Good and Evil, although it not yet clear on which sides these men will stand. Io3qEXfuc2s The first episode was quite weird I have to say, but in a good way, and it certainly helps that Ben Hawkins is a total hottie. Michael J. Anderson is wonderful as the leader of the Carnival Samson, and the so-called Management are certainly intriguing. Clea Duvall makes an "Ah, I know you!" appearance as the required love interest and only seemingly 'normal' carnie. She does get the chance to show off a bit of acting chops aswell with the fall out of the rape, and her shouting at her comatose mother to "shut up!", was a particular batty highlight. While Clancy Brown does have a gravitas as the Pastor, his scenes felt disjointed with the rest of the episode, and the woman throwing up coins part left me feeling a bit "wtf?" although hopefully this won't be too much of an issue as time goes on. While it didn't grab me as much as I thought it would given the hype (I suppose if I had the DVD to go straight into Episode 2 this wouldn't be a problem) it was decent enough for me to keep tuning in. Seeing as how I didn't know anything much about the plot when I started, the discovery of Ben's gift was also quite well revealed. It certainly helps that the first season is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, the genius behind the recent Battlestar Galactica re-boot. Funny enough that is what he jumped ships for after the first season. Thoughts peeps?
  16. http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ln5joxlCla1qbtf1ko1_500.jpg mvd_tvffGbc The album is available for pre order from her website. Surprised there isn't a topic about this already; I wonder how much her surprise Brit win in february will impact on sales? I've got to say, that letter, I love this woman

I'm downloading the fourth episode as I type, this show is such an utter joy to watch. The cast have such great chemistry together thanks to the sharp scripts and great acting. Emmy Rossum in paritcular is impressing me, I didn't expect much after only seeing her in The Day After Tomorrow and Poseidon. I actually can't name my favourite character; but I have to say that Ian is one of the best gay characters I've seen on TV since I finished watching Six Feet Under. Also, while I would have loved Allison Janney to get the part of Sheila, I can't say that I'm too gutted. That role seems tailor made for someone who plays neurotic as well as Joan Cusack.

  19. This grabbed me just as much as Night did; it's very intense and I love the Transformers-esq production flourishes. The intro is fantastic.

haha sorry I panicked you! There are a couple of theories floating around about the baby that either 1) He has the "evil eyes" which allows someone to kill another person by just looking at them , or 2) He is being possessed by Rene's spirit thanks to Marnie's attempts at trying to contact the dead. Both could work, but either way there's definitely something not right with the baby; the way the show built the storyline up and the way they portray the baby scenes makes it clear. The fact that it was Mikey that cut Arlene's eye is all the proof we need. I think theory 2 would work best, because then Arlene is both right and wrong; right in that there's something wrong with the baby, but wrong in believing that the baby himself is evil. I guess that could also apply to theory 1 if they played it that the baby isn't evil, it just has an evil power. This is probably one of the most intriguing storylines True Blood has at the moment tbh.
  21. This song is rather wonderful, and my current obsession; it reminds me a bit of Shakespear's Sister's Stay. I do agree though, that the name is terrible, it feels like text talk or something. Either way it's unappealing.

I think the first two episodes have been pretty fast paced myself, and the witches and specifically Marnie are going to make great villains. The only storyline I find dull is Sam's, and he also had the most boring subplot in the whole of Season Three; I guess he will never get another storyline as good as the Maryann one or his reveal as a shapeshifter. I think the big problem for the first few episodes is that the teasers have shown quite a bit, so cliffhangers like Episode 1 & 2 aren't particularly effective as we know the outcome and there is no threat, and the Jason cliffhanger in Episode 1 wasn't shocking because we knew he would be held hostage and tied to a bed eventually, we were just waiting for it to happen. I've got to say on that front, Crystal isn't exactly likeable, if they follow the books, And I do have to agree with the sentiment that it's sad to see go. She was a terrific character, but at least we get to see Sabrewulf, while Arlene is a bit neurotic, have you seen that baby; it clearly is the antichrist or something  and she has a reason to be freaked out after all those premonitions she had last season. And thanks for the link Joao ^_^

Oh, I think Dinklage is a shoo in for an Emmy, there's already a huge buzz surrounding him; it just seems pretty inevitable even at this stage. I'm reading the first book now, and I'm finding the prose to be a bit clunky to be honest; it seems to be falling into the cliché fantasy writing trappings already. I will battle on though.

Great opener, but I'm with Rooney in that I didn't particularly enjoy the opening scene; it felt like Sookie landed in the midde of a Syfy movie-of-the-week or something. The rest of the episode made up for it though; Fiona Shaw in particular is wonderfully batty as the head of the witch convent and Pam continues to steal every scene she's in. Ball made a big fuss about Jason's storyline this season, so I hope it picks up a bit there, otherwise I'm pretty happy with where everything is going, although I fear they're still juggling more than they can handle. I'm also guilty of swooning a bit at the end scene with Eric and Sookie. SWOON. Could you send me the link please, I would be greatful! ^_^
