Yep Rudimental played live on Sunday Brunch. They even mentioned coming on the show so they can try and beat Drake to number one.

The OCC are already a laughing stock and no longer even a real popularity chart, and some people here are arguing to make it an even bigger joke.

Get with the times (this also goes for out of touch dinosaurs at OCC).

Regardless, the majority of the biggest demographic of Spotify users would skip past "Dancing" if it came on on shuffle. We're in an era where music has to be "cool" and Kylie just isn't. Personally I like "Dancing" though!

Saying they'd "skip" her because of her name is a ridiculous thing to say!

I know I have no realistic way of getting you to understand this and you'll probably defensively label me a "deluded fan" too, but you're simply being an obnoxious troll here.

He didn’t say they’d skip it because of her name though, just because of the track, which isn’t enticing to most teenagers.

Although, I think the Spotify audience is so passive, that a lot wouldn’t skip it.

Actually caught the Rudimental performance on Sunday Brunch - was pretty decent actually and I've given the record a second chance so I'm sure it's done a good job towards winning some new fans and sales! It sounds a lot better when it's not got the generic drums and pitched vocals in the background!

The remix needs to stick around a little here for Kylie and Also needs to pick up a few streams to help the Original. She maybe should have released all four remixes this week and all at 59p to really boost sales combined

Read T Boy's post from a teacher's perspective - one who teaches teenagers.

Rather rude to label me an 'obnoxious troll' for having formed an opinion different to yours - the obnoxious comment is yours! As I've already said I like Kylie but kids on the whole are going to be skipping her songs if they're on playlists. She's not what that demographic wants.

As someone who also works with teenagers, most of the kids I talk to about music are fans of Drake, Ramz, J Hus, etc. That's not to say there aren't teenagers who'd be fans of Kylie though - I think a song like Dancing would have an audience amongst teenagers. It's not a million miles away from Anywhere and that was a streaming hit after all.

It's very easy to say that audience "don't care" or "can't connect" to her, but with the main commercial radio stations not playing her and it not being added to any of the key Spotify playlists, what chance does it even have of reaching out to them in the first place?

Hope Kylie can get a further boost now that she’s Top 10 - the fact it’s 59p should also help keep it stable. Great result from 1 performance and I didn’t think it would make the iTunes Top 10 once let alone twice several weeks apart, just hope she can snatch 1 week Top 40 officially!

QUOTE(Bré @ Feb 25 2018, 12:19 AM) *
The new Kylie song is awful imo but I do agree that it would probably fit in well enough on Spotify playlists to be a middling top 40 hit.

Brayden coming with the facts.

While aimed more to that demographic than say iTunes is these days...Y'all know that it's not only kids/teens who use Spotify right? Myself and all my friends are late twenties/early thirties and we all use Spotify (or Apple Music) and I'm pretty sure my parents use it too...Spotify is the main way of music consumption for most of the music-listening population now.

Anyway, I think the point is that a huge proportion of Spotify listeners listen to music/playlists very passively. A lot of the time without even probably knowing who they're listening to. Nobody was saying that Kylie would be the next Post Malone of streaming if added to playlists, but I doubt every single person, if they found themselves bopping to 'Dancing' and checked out who the artist would be like "Oh no, she's not relevant, I'd better not listen to this again'.

^^ Without going off track too much, 99% of my music consumption is streaming however the majority of that is playlists, complications and the charts, I have to go out of my way to create playlists or look up artists I like when they release something new/are not featured on playlists which of course I do but so many songs get played and rack up sales from me because of where they are featured and the fact I use playlists for the gym, background music etc.,

I’m actually surprised that Spotify aren’t actively marketing to a slightly older audience, including gearing some of the playlists towards them, it seems like huge untapped potential to me.

To be fair, they do. I just opened Spotify and "Easy 60s", "Peaceful Guitar" and "Jazz" are the main playlists being advertised, all of which I've guess would not be aimed at "kids".

What about 'current' playlists aimed at 24+?

There are plenty of them? Hot Hits UK surely has something for all ages. It's not "Tweeny Bops UK". There are playlists like that, but something like Hot Hits is just as much for people 24+ as it is for teenagers.
