Not been watching these much as 86 was a crap year but just caught one- was alright, some decent stuff from Depeche Mode, Human League, Bruce Hornsby and the Range. Terrible #1 though

The number one wasn’t great, but it was better than the dirge it replaced. Certainly some of the recent episodes have been a bit of an endurance test.

Tbf the Story of 86 even stated this. Said it was like the end of the big 80s pop bands and the wait for decent dance in the later decade had begun!

I do think 1986 seems to be decent on the dance/dance-pop side of things. The Modern Talking and Communards songs are good fun I think! And Jaki Graham's Set Me Free is great I think, it really should be a classic!

'The Way It Is' is a sad song but indeed brilliant. I don't mind the Boris Gardiner slow-dancing classic at #1 it is quite nice I think if rather cheesy. Perhaps though there were too many ballads in the chart at this time though with Lady In Red and The Glory of Love there too.

Holiday Rap performance fell into the so bad it's good for me. Farley Jackmaster Funk + Frankie were great tonight though!

Also noticed they hadn't got any breakers on- definitely was a bit better without them.

I'm at the end of June 86 myself and I've noticed that they've gotten rid of the dancing at the end of the show while the camera scans the crowd for the first time since the show began in the 60s? Correct me if I'm wrong?! Must be the end of zoo then!

Apparently Zoo stopped being used in 83 from looking at wikipedia- there are still hired dancers or cheerleaders in the audience, but less as there was before.

Good episode indeed, music was finally picking up a bit at this point (with Eurythmics' excellent 'Thorn In My Side' hopefully in the next episode shown). 'You Give Love A Bad Name' by Bon Jovi is a great anthem!
The two iconic dance tunes of The Communards/Sarah Jane Morris and Farley Jackmaster Funk/Darryl Pandy were good to see, and of course nobody knew how pioneering the latter would be! The Frankie Goes To Hollywood song 'Rage Hard' is great, but I prefer 'Warriors of the Wasteland' from later in the year.

It's a nice enough song I think. It does seem though that there were a bit too many romantic ballads around at the same time though with this, 'The Lady In Red' and 'Glory of Love'.

One of the great TOTP moments for me, the way Larry has his back to the camera for 30 seconds before the reveal, then the OMG moment and the hot, cool dancing to sustain it.

We'll get to see the whole run of Every Loser Wins at #1, unfortunately none of the episodes it is featured in are Mike Smith editions! Nick doesn't even bother to show up in the studio for it...

Anyway this weeks couple of shows weren't very good imo, Loose Ends and Cameo are probably the best out of a not very good selection of songs.

Even the artist himself - previous hit was in 1970!

Just listened to it now out of curiosity as I don't think I know it, I suppose in style it reminds me of the Glenn Medieros #1 we will get in 1988, 'Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You', but sadly I don't think it's quite as good as that song!
