I mean, let's be fair, the Purpose era was so phenomenally successful on all fronts. It was going to be difficult for him to keep that success up, almost nobody is able to sustain that level of impact. It's not the public seeing through him, because the support is clearly still there, he had a #1 album this year and numerous top 10 hits, all of which showed or are showing some good longevity.

His manager knows how to send the cheques out! biggrin.gif

The number 6 is not bad.

On the other hand, hopefully we'll get rid of Pop Smoke someday.

I don’t want to make today’s chart about Justin Bieber but his Changes era completely tanked in comparison to his era prior, Purpose.

Changes yielded two top ten hits. Intentions was the only one that yielded any kind of longevity.

Let’s be honest here, Justin Bieber isn’t as relevant as what he was. If he released Lonely even back in 2017 it would have reached the top-five straight away...

Biography

When his life was cut short in the early hours of February 19, 2020, Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke was, at the age of 20, more famous than he’d ever been, yet nowhere close to where he was likely to end up. He exploded onto the scene in 2019 with “Welcome to the Party,” a song that somehow plays as enticing as it is menacing, exemplifying Brooklyn’s rising drill music scene at its sharpest. His voice across it—gruff and road-worn beyond his age—carries the delivery of a supervillain, daring his adversaries to try and stop the mayhem he has planned for the city.

Pop Smoke was from the far-flung Canarsie neighborhood, and his verses radiate a singular kind of Real Brooklyn energy. (A great deal of his "Welcome to the Party” video takes place in front of the long-standing jerk chicken staple Peppa’s.) His slang (“sturdy,” “dap me up”) was largely New York City-centric, which helped songs like “War,” “Christopher Walking,” and “Dior” reverberate quickly through, and beyond, the five boroughs. Fans worldwide got indoctrinated upon accepting his 2019 debut project’s invitation to Meet the Woo; a sequel, Meet the Woo 2, was released just weeks before his death. Pop Smoke worked well with the stars of his city, nabbing collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Bronx heartthrob A Boogie wit da Hoodie, and fellow ascending voices Lil Tjay and Fivio Foreign. He’d even have no problem setting his own tone on his Travis Scott collaboration “GATTI,” from the JACKBOYS project. Canarsie had Pop Smoke famously calling friends and associates his “woos,” but his enemies mostly went nameless, barely worth mentioning. As fast as things were moving for him, he couldn’t have had a second of spare time to give to anyone who didn’t believe.

4 weeks in the top 10 (and counting) in 2020 is a smash hit in my eyes.

Yes for me it would be too but for Justin’s standards it’s not.

Sorry, Despacito, WDYM, Cold Water etc are his smash hits.

Biography

A Canadian singer and dancer, Tate McRae makes emotive alternative pop. Following her viral emergence in 2017, she released her debut EP, All The Things I Never Said, featuring the Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell co-write "Tear Myself Apart."

Born Tate Rosner McRae in 2003, the Calgary native initially started out as a dancer at age six and studied at the Alberta Ballet. She entered her first dance competition in 2011 and later took the silver medal at the final round of the Youth America Grand Prix in New York City in 2015. Out of the competition, she earned a scholarship for a two-week intensive course at the Berlin State Ballet School. The following year, McRae competed on FOX's So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, finishing in third place. Along with dance, she developed an interest in singing and acting, appearing as the voice of the rag doll Spot Splatter Splash in Nickelodeon's Lalaloopsy animated series. In 2017, she launched her own YouTube channel by posting a song she had written in one day. The video went viral and helped build buzz for McRae. More songs followed, and she eventually signed with RCA. In 2020, she released her debut EP, All the Things I Never Said. Included on the album was the the song "Tear Myself Apart," co-written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell.

Changes hasn't tanked, though. I get your point, it's not been as big as Purpose (and as a huge fan of Justin, I wasn't very fussed with Changes, one of the biggest disappointments of the year!). However, I don't think it's fair to say it "completely tanked" when it hasn't! A #1 peak and two top 10 hits (the only two singles it yielded, nonetheless). Intentions was huge of course, and it's important not to downplay Yummy either - it was more frontloaded but actually held up pretty well, better than many remember!

I think Justin is still one of the most relevant artists around, but the Purpose era was always going to be tough to replicate. A top 20 debut is nothing to be sniffed at, and Holy's still growing in popularity which is the most important thing!

Pop Smokes highest charting track!

So happy Miley eventually went top 5! After worrying this was gonna be a #11 peak I’m glad she’s had strong longevity and a multiple week top ten stint. wub.gif
