I’m not sure if I worded it right but what I mean is who can you think of that went from a shining star with real star potential to suddenly being a nobody without a record deal or equivalent contract of sort? Who has fallen so low from their perch of success and a brief 5 minutes of fame and hasn’t been able to get back up again?
Nothing from 2020's in here though Discuss! |

Going with less controversial - artists like Little Boots, Diana Vickers etc

It's a difficult one because a lot of people we might quote probably didn't want that level of fame anyway, or realised that they didn't.
But we have seen people have lots of TV appearances and then suddenly disappear for all sorts of reasons. |

Oh ok, got what you mean!
1. Alexandra Burke - got Beyonce's seal of approval while on XF, had a massive first era but between first and second album got moved from Syco to RCA and released a very low budget album and flopped. 2. Robin Thicke - spent years bubbling under before breaking out with the problematic Blurred Lines, quickly to be cancelled after the r***y/misogynistic lyrics backlash, the Miley performance and then him cheating on his wife. His follow-up album was a public plea to his wife, even naming it after her and essentially killed his music career. 3. Hear'Say - hyped to be the next big pop group, bagged two #1 singles (and a #1 album?) but from what I remember they got a major backlash in the press and Liberty X, the rejects of Popstars, ended up having a more successful and remembered pop career. |

Leona Lewis seems to have had many missed opportunities. Lots of songs that her record label passed on that became big hits for other artists.
Gareth Gates seemed to be hot property for a while and seemed to fizzle out quite quickly. |

Yeah sorry I thought I worded it wrong but what you described in the last post was essentially what I was going for, I guess the phrase fall from grace does also get mixed with a cancel culture thing doesn’t it.
Yeah so maybe rename the thread "Artists/Celebrities whose careers went downhill or who flopped" I can’t really decide anymore I’m too tired. |

Duffy perhaps just for the fact of how quickly it changed for her next era.
Will have to think more on this. |

Emeli Sande and possibly Jess Glynne, although the latter did have 2 albums of big success
In terms of bands The Darkness were everywhere and then the joke wore very tired, very quickly |

Christina Aguilera in a way. Absolutely massive in early 00s then by 2008 her success was waning and the arrival of Gaga made Bionic sound and look dated in comparison.

Yes definitely Spice Girls! The American direction of Forever lost the Spice Girls magic - I reckon if it was as fun as Spice/Spiceworld, they could have got a third #1 album. Even the artwork screamed dull.

Alexandra Burke for sure, and yes Duffy.
Nelly Furtado? Although that was kind of her own fault for taking 6 years after Loose. Iggy Azalea, a huge 2014 and barely heard of since, Jessie J after 2015, her discography page on Wikipedia after 'Flashlight' is truly comical. And last but not least... JESS GLYNNE! |

Esmée Denters.
Back in the old youtube days she was one of the first youtube singers to really have a shot of becoming a star after gaining quite a lot of views on a number of her cover videos. She got signed by Justin Timberlake at the time and released "Outta Here" which became a decent sized hit in Europe but after that she seemed to fade. Likely due to mismanagement. Edit: Also forgot she had a #3 hit with Chipmunk in 2010 "Until You". This post has been edited by Envoirment: 3rd May 2024, 10:22 PM |

What about Stacie Orrico?
Also before I go any further… I’m realising this thread has morphed into the similarly themed "Whatever happened to…" which incidentally I started about a year ago with the same sort of purpose as this one oops. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=262123 Both me AND Scene making the same mistake in the same day today! |

Flo Rida is an artist who had 14 top 10 UK hits (Inc features) from 2008-2015, many of them very long lasting, but hasn't troubled the charts since.
