BJSC 151 Entry (January 2023)
Artist: Mykah Song: Alex Kidd Main Theme (Electro House Version) Based in the UK, Mykah is a music producer, remixer, DJ and artist specialising in video game remixes, licensed video game cover songs and electronic dance music. Mykah has played internationally at events in the UK, USA and Japan. He also composes original soundtrack music as Mike Rai. In 2021 Mykah released an electric house remix of the original theme to Alex Kidd in Miracle World, just in time for the release of Miracle World DX. Alex Kidd was an original SEGA mascot for the Master System, and he featured in various adventures including the original Alex Kidd in Miracle World from 1986, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle and Alex Kidd in Shinobi World. n 2020, Sega confirmed that they would be publishing a remake of Alex Kidd in Miracle World developed by Merge Games and Jankenteam. this ended up being Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, released on June 22nd, 2021. As it just so happens, I've been on a video game music kick (see my most recent Nuggets entry) and have also considered sending one to BJSC, so even though I'm not familiar with Alex Kidd, your entry was still timed perfectly to get maximum points from me.
 I think the challenge with sending video game music to a song contest is how repetitive the songs usually are, but this remix brings so much life to it and was an instant fave for me. Bravo and well done!

Artist: Radiohead Song: Exit Music (For A Film) Radiohead are an English rock band formed in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards); brothers Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments) and Colin Greenwood (bass); Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals); and Philip Selway (drums, percussion). Rolling Stone named Radiohead one of the 100 greatest artists of all time, and Rolling Stone readers voted them the second-best artist of the 2000s. Five Radiohead albums have been included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time lists. Radiohead were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. Exit Music (For A Film) was played over the end credits to Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet but was excluded from the soundtrack album at the band's request. The song helped shape the direction of the rest of the album; Thom Yorke said it "was the first performance we'd ever recorded where every note of it made my head spin—something I was proud of, something I could turn up really, really loud and not wince at any moment." Artist: Alessandro Safina Song: Luna Alessandro Safina is an Italian operatic pop tenor. Born in Siena, Italy, he has sought to combine his interests in opera and modern pop music. In 2001, he contributed to the score of Baz Luhrmann's film Moulin Rouge! where he performed Elton John's Your Songwith Ewan McGregor, and a part of the Elephant Love Medley, sung by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. In 2007, he recorded a duet with the British soprano Sarah Brightman. In June 2017, he performed O Sole Mio with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. Luna is the second track to his self-titled album from 2001. Zanmatony were thrilled to discover their best ever result in a BJSC event yesterday when they were awarded the silver medal for the Movies II spin-off contest! It was a strange feeling sending Radiohead to BJSC as they are so widely known and respected, and the movie Romeo + Juliet was over a quarter of a century ago and it didn’t seem like the wisest choice of entry from us, but that result confirmed that the song Exit Music (For A Film) is still as much enjoyed now as it was then. Thanks to all who voted for it, especially Jadakissnia, Pagasa and Rolloland for the gold medals.

Artist: Jacana People Song: Tahara Alt-Electronic music duo Jacana People are from Buckinghamshire, UK. Caught halfway between city noise and rural British landscapes, Jacana People meld bittersweet electronica with sprawling organic textures. The duo continues to showcase their penchant for storytelling across mood-switching soundscapes, encompassing rhythmic drums and nuanced percussion to create a warm immersive experience; teasing ambient elements, while hinting at the hope of euphoric times ahead. Artist: XONE Song: LANTAKLAH Ellya Keesha and Nelysa Nazrin from Malaysia are best friends who are pop outfit XONE (pronounced ‘so-en-ee’), the pop duo whose name is a cutesy acronym of X for love, O for hugs, N for Nelysa, and E for Ellya.
