Good lord some of the #1s on this week in history. The Frankee/Eamon shite, Boyzone peddling more dreary MOR 70s cover horeseshit, Manchester sodding United? Miracle on the other hand still sounds fab a year on.

Rim Tim Tagi Dim prayer circle. (Expecting it to have just missed out but could have scraped in, by comparison Kalush Orchestra fell from #34 in Wednesday mids to #38 in the final chart).

I'd be amazed if it was close even without the physicals. The gap had closed quite significantly on the Wednesday update and Sabrina was way in front on Spotify

Hoping for a new #1 but seriously doubtful with the physicals and might not have done it regardless.

Also fingers crossed for Baby Lasagna making it into the top 40 but also have my doubts there. sad.gif

Charli XCX
360

2nd single from BRAT
Released: 10th May 2024
Label: Atlantic Recording Corporation

Video

Biography

Whether she’s penning defiantly joyous singles like “I Love It” or exploring her darker side, Charli XCX is proof that you don’t need to stay in one lane to become a massive success. Born Charlotte Aitchison in 1992 in Cambridge, England, to Scottish and Gujarati Indian parents, Charli took up songwriting at 14, lifting her stage name from her instant messenger handle. On the strength of her MySpace uploads and performances at London raves, she landed a record deal at 18, released the modestly successful darkwave cuts “Stay Away” and “Nuclear Seasons”, then hit the big time with 2012’s kiss-off anthem “I Love It”. Originally scrapped from her own album for being too poppy, the beat-pounding re-recording by Swedish duo Icona Pop quickly became a worldwide dance-floor favourite. Her goth-tinged debut album, 2013’s True Romance, and tracks like the psychedelic, Gold Panda-sampling "You (Ha Ha Ha)” soon positioned Charli as the missing link between Grimes’ freak scene, Lorde’s dark melodies, and Carly Rae Jepsen’s sweetness. Never one to repeat herself, she’s built a track record as a prolific songwriter and collaborator, penning hits for Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”) and Selena Gomez (“Same Old Love”) and working with the likes of Lil Yachty, David Guetta and BTS. She even followed up the 2019 eclectic, star-studded Charli with 2020’s intimate how i'm feeling now, an album written with fan input during her six-week pandemic quarantine. One thing is clear: Charli XCX’s creative drive and willingness to take risks has made her one of the most unique, enthralling artists of her era. - Apple Music

RM
Come back to me

1st single from Right Place, Wrong Person
Released: 10th May 2024
Label: BIGHIT MUSIC

Video

Biography

One of the primary songwriters behind the Grammy-nominated group BTS, rapper-producer RM has long loved words and the shapes they make. “Yeah, my beginning was poetry/It’s the one and only strength and dream that has kept me going,” RM sings on “Wild Flower,” the lead single off his 2022 debut solo album Indigo, designed to be a musical archive of the artist's late twenties. Born as 김남준 (aka Kim Nam-joon) in Seoul, South Korea, in 1994, RM followed his love of poetry into the world of hip-hop, citing artists like Epik High and Eminem as early influences. In middle school, he was rapping in amateur hip-hop circles and writing his own songs. In high school, he began performing in the underground rap scene under the moniker Runch Randa, leading to a spot as a trainee at Big Hit Entertainment, the K-pop company that would launch BTS into superstardom. In 2013, RM debuted as a member of 방탄소년단 (or Bangtan Sonyeondan), aka BTS, alongside JIN, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook. As the group’s leader and fluent English speaker, RM has often taken the reins in global press events, including when BTS was invited to speak in front of the UN in 2018. Alongside SUGA and j-hope, he has been one of the main behind-the-scenes voices in BTS’s music-making, and has over 200 songs attributed to him as a songwriter and composer across BTS, his three solo projects (2015’s RM, 2018’s mono., and Indigo), his co-members’ solo work, and collaborations with artists such as Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, and So!YoON!. He’s also known for his clever wordplay and deep sincerity, as he shows on songs like “Wild Flower,” where he sings, “When everything I bеlieved in grew distant/When all this fame turned into shackles/Please take my desire away from me/No matter what it takes/Oh, let me be myself.” - Apple Music
