 Thank you for all the suggestions for your chart flops of 2004, now we look at the next year, 2005. What songs do you remember from this time and why do you remember them fondly? These could be songs that failed to make the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, or even the Top 75, but they have to have been released as a single at some point during the year. I will nominate something in a little while that I personally enjoyed in this year, but for now, it’s over to you.

Simple Plan had a handful of songs miss top 40 but this is the better one for me
Formerly of Evanescence, Ben Moody went on to do his own thing and that also lead to a collab with Anastacia which peaked at 95. and then there's this from Santana teaming up with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler which I'm very familiar with via it playing in my dad's car a lot at the time as it was on his makeshift CD playlists lol. Great track though! Charted for a sole week in the top 80! |

Love that High On Emotion song, with a Chris de Burgh sample there!
Here's a few from me. Missy Higgins was one of Australia's biggest (and best) singers of the 00s, but did nothing here when they released Ten Days. I think it got to something like No.138? Wiki says it was No.95 on the physicals chart. Such a stunning ballad. One of Norway's should have been huge stars, Annie, with a glorious and glistening slice of mid-00s Scandipop, which only got to No.50 sadly. This got to No.34 but I'm posting it because when I first heard it I thought it was going to be a Shapeshifters style No.1! How wrong I was, and how underrated this track was. This missed the chart altogether, and Alexis was dropped - bah. She eventually released her album last year and went viral on social media after signing with a label and releasing her music 20 years later. Quite a powerful dance song here, which peaked at No.66. Another I thought was going to be much, much bigger. The triumphant return of Tina Cousins! In Australia at least, where this Wonderful Life cover was huge. Here it got to No.58... A dance song that sampled Encore Une Fois by Sash! Got to No.51, and Sash! of course (very) slightly reworked it three years later and it went top ten with his name plastered on it. Stunt represented the UK in Eurovision 2014 under her real name, Molly. A fab electro song that stiffed at No.49. Why were we eating up naff 80s house loop stuff that year when there was so much good dance out that was flopping? The Eurovision winner wasn't released in the UK sadly in 2005, but is a 00s classic and should have been as big as it was in Europe! I remember Little Love a lot from the music channels of the time surprising it only got to #34. I also remember this which only made #36
I assumed having never heard it that Stunt's Raindrops was a Cascada type track with a hard beat because of the Sash vs Stunt version. But the Cascada type beat must have been only added in for the 2008 version! |

Can see why Sash! remixed in for 2008 release but not bad for what it was in that year either!

Guess I better get in with nominating some flops then… here’s a few from the first quarter of 2005;
David Guetta feat. JD Davis – The World Is Mine [Peaked at #49 in February 2005] Another of David’s early singles before he made it big. This one was from his deluxe album One More Love. Brandy – Who Is She 2 U [Peaked at #50 in March 2005] The last solo Top 100 hit for Brandy was this one in 2005, maybe a little forgettable but still decent enough to have deserved a higher chart peak. Sara Jorge – Shock To The System [Peaked at #86 in March 2005] The only song to have graced the OCC Top 100 for this relatively unknown artist, but maybe could have been bigger with the right promo. |

Moving swiftly on to the second quarter of 2005;
Morcheeba – Wonders Never Cease [Peaked at #86 in May 2005] A lovely chilled acoustic track that never really made much chart impact at the time, and sadly Morcheeba would never have a hit again. Daniel Bedingfield – The Way [Peaked at #41 in May 2005] The last charting single for Daniel Bedingfield, an upbeat contemporary pop song which was his lowest charting hit to date. Jack Johnson – Good People [Peaked at #50 in June 2005] Once considered one of the freshest sounds of 2005, Jack Johnson’s first charting single, and one to be included on Now 61 at the time despite its low chart peak. Ladytron – Sugar [Peaked at #45 in June 2005] English band Ladytron had a string of low charting singles, and this one came close again in 2005 but just missed out. |

Voted for them over in 20th century poll but Tears For Fears did scrape a top 40 hit in 2005 with this which would consider a flop still considering how big they were for a long time.

In terms of dance music for 2005 the biggest flop for what has become a classic was probably Tiesto's Adagio For Strings only making #37 in the UK.
