QUOTE Supernova, the Latvian national selection process, will return for a second year when the country chooses their song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. Following the success of the first run of the show this year, the Latvian broadcaster, LTV, has decided to continue with the format that brought them to the Eurovision Song Contest final for the first time since 2008.
Song submissions are open from now until the beginning of November. Artists can apply through the application page on the Supernova website. The top 20 songs will then be chosen to progress in the competition, and they will be announced at the beginning of December. There will be two preparation shows that will be shown in January, with live shows running each Sunday in February. Earlier this year, Aminata won Supernova 2015 and represented Latvia with her song Love injected. Aminata scored Latvia their first top ten placing in ten years, finishing sixth, as well as bringing the country their highest ever points total. ESC Today |

Omg it's the annual Eurovision thread posted by me. Exciting.
I'd be surprised if Latvia found something as good as 'Love Injected' again but we'll see innit x Hopefully Ryan will make the first couple of posts less basic for me in the near future. |

Already done!
So pleased they are bringing Supernova back, this national selection was definitely the biggest surprise of 2015 - especially for their attention to international viewers with the online voting and special internet coverage of the Riga Beaver while the adverts were shown in Latvia! |

This 3 minute song that was written by Aminata was uploaded last week, surely a good bet to be one of the Supernova finalists which will be announced this weekend?
Aminata's done it yet again! Love Justs' voice, this would be such a good Latvian entry for the 2nd year in a row. Although apparently last year's runner-up Markus Riva has submitted his whole album, I think he must go into this year as a big favourite. |

Early thoughts are that 'We Live For Love' sounds like Sofi Turbominge's recent ill-fated forays into audacity enabled key changes.
Ergo it's brilliant. |

Catalepsia's verses are so melodic. <3

Samanta Tina must have some excellent connections in Latvia, she keeps coming back over and over again. Bet neither of them are anywhere near as good as I Need A Hero.
YES Catalepsia, bring it! Most plays on Soundcloud if that means anything. It's so nice to see some more power metal songs in these NFs. But then Crow Mother has four times as many 'likes' as most of them and that sounds similarly great if a bit more grindy/guitar-y. |

Just started listening to the tracks and OMG 'Set It On Fire' is absolutely amazing!
I would be thrilled if the BBC got behind an entry like this! |

Well, Samantha Tina withdrew and Markus Riva got eliminated so we now have Justs and Catalepsia through to the final with the public vote and MyRadiantU and Marta Ritova through with the jury vote.
It think it might be Justs' to lose. |

Surprised Markus is out, he had a better song this year than last for me but I heard that the jurors were not fans at all tonight! I'm glad though as I think he was the biggest threat, although perhaps not...
Justs has convincingly won both of the televotes he's been in now, and you'd think that Markus' fans are more likely to transfer their votes to Justs over Catalepsia. I really hope Justs can do an Aminata and win every show just like she did! |

The voting breakdown is out and the Latvian televote got a bit close for comfort for Justs last night. The international online vote made him look more comfortable at the top but I hope that the tide isn't turning:

TONIGHT'S NATIONAL FINAL... LATVIA Supernova 28th February 2016 Begins at 7.25pm in the UK, 8.25pm in Central Europe and 9.25pm in Latvia The show is scheduled to last 2 hours 20 minutes Watch the selection on Eurovision.tv or via the official LTV webcast Running Order Click ♫ to listen to each song! 01 | ♫ Catalepsia - Damnation 02 | ♫ MyRadiantU - We Will Be Stars 03 | ♫ Justs - Heartbeat 04 | ♫ Marta Ritova - Not From This World Voting There will be one round of voting which will be decided by 100% televoting. The televote will be a combination of televotes and SMS votes from the Latvian public as well as international online voting via the official Supernova website. Potential Winners? According to Betfair, Justs is a very clear favourite ahead of Catalepsia although they aren't offering odds for all four acts so they may not be totally reliable. That said, Justs has won both his heat and last week's semi-final although he only just beat Catalepsia in the Latvian televote last week, with the online voting giving him a cushion overall. Therefore, the result isn't as guaranteed as you may think! Guest Performances During the show, there will be guest performances by electronic music project Bandmaster, 2009 Latvian Eurovision representative Intars Busulis and 2015 Latvian Eurovision representative Aminata. And of course, the Riga Beaver will be entertaining all the international viewers when the commercial breaks are shown in Latvia! Further details available at ESC Today |

In the most nail-biting vote of the national final season so far, Justs has taken victory ahead of Catalepsia by what we are predicting was less than 1% of the vote judging by the figures we were given throughout the show!

Crazy how Aminata has turned things around in Latvia from like 6 DNQs in a row to what is probably 2 top 10s in a row thanks to herself last year and then writing this song for Justs this year!
Justs is about to become favourite to win on Oddschecker, can't quite see him winning but top 5 is a possibility! His performance from the first heat: |
