So do people think these by elections will move the GE date closer to May or still October? The longer the wait the more angry with the governing party the public may get but Sunak is hoping the wait may mean more positive economic news and an end of summer style election will maybe not have as much negativity about post winter nhs crisis’. The tories now really are surely gonna go on the defensive and try and retrieve as many of their base seats as possible, they have to chose tho role back and win the south and south west from the Lib Dem’s and abandon the red wall of the opposite!

It really seems that it doesn't matter how long they drag this out for, they're gonna lose and big time. I thought the negative press around Labour recently may at least been a bit noticeable in these results, but you wouldn't think so (doesn't help ofc. that the Tories aren't exactly flourishing either), although I guess Rochdale will be the real test. They'll cling on for as long as possible nonetheless to try in the vain hope they can get something out of it, I reckon September/October so in theory, there may be distractions (especially for younger people/students) that may skew the outlook.

Another day - another venal, evil, talentless Tory asshole forced to resign and call a by election. This time Blackpool South's Scott Benton - only 3.6 K by election so question is not will Labour win but what will the majority be? Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Still utterly unbelievable people in places like Blackpool etc ran to vote for evil Blojo, as if he cared for anyone but the rich southern Tories, instead of Cirbyn and the greatest manifesto EVER!!! Shows the power of the rvil press and British establishment.

There's polling which indicates that if Johnson was leader, he would run Starmer's Labour close even now,for some reason - well I can speculate buit it wouldn't put the red wall inhabitants in a good light. But they have no love for socially awkward and the wrong skin colour Sunak.

Well Galloway won and it wasn't close. Fascinatingly 2nd place ended up being an independent candidate, getting nearly twice as many votes as the Tory in third place. There were 6 candidates that kept their deposit which seems unusually high ("Labour" 4th, Lib Dems 5th, Reform UK 6th).

Certainly the outcome with the most... knock-on. While his announcement that his party will put in a bunch of candidates in what I presume are Labour safe seats probably won't come to much, and he'll be booted out at the GE, I expect some interesting scenes from him in Parliament ('trying to stop [Sunak and Starmer] from collaborating in it' in his own words) while Gaza continues to dominate the foreign policy agenda.

There clearly are votes in that, whether or not their number would be reduced (per seat) at a general and it remaining a top news item is going to drag on parties that aren't careful on it.

Great, now we have the left wing version of Laurence Fox in Parliament. Hopefully the GE isn't too far away so we can boot his sorry ass out. Feel like Count Binface missed a massive opportunity here.

I despise Galloway, not for his policies and beliefs which I do respect (and mostly agree with), but the way in which he operates. He seeks to drive ppl apart and incite anger in already divided communities. It's the same tactics of the far right IMO.

This by-election was a complete mess anyway. Labour rushed into holding it, the funeral of Sir Tony Lloyd having barely been held. The way that the antisemitism was handled by Starmer was piss weak and the kind of embarassingly poor political judgement that he, the Labour right, and the entire political class would have criticised Corbyn for but yet were mostly silent on this time around.

This result will change nothing but it will feed into the narrative the Tories want to lean into and drive further division into politics, taking heat away from the very real issues that the UK faces as a nation in decline.

Edit - the 'Sunak and Starmer being two cheeks of the same arse' is a great line to be absolutely fair to him.

With that result, I reckon Galloway would have won even if Labour had a non-controversial regular candidate. But great news that Danzcuk and Reform died on its earth - despite every right wing channel hyping them up at every opportunity. Mind you, that will increase the change of Farage becoming its Leader - probably after the GE. hithead.gif

Im pretty much with DB on Galloway tbf but I agree with alot of his leftist views but its a pity he goes about it the way he does.

His quote of Sky News from Malcolm X about the Labour and Tories is exactly right though - at least the tories are the wolves they say they are Starmers Labour are just like a fox acting like they stand for the poor and vulnerable but really they dont!

But the Tories don't claim to be wolves at all. They claim to be a non racist party, caring about levelling up and making the country more equal, they spun the line about how the hardest of Brexits would bring untold riches to the country. And most shameful of all is that they claim to be strong and stable on the economy whereas the vast majority are worse off financially and the debt is sky high. And under Boris Johnson, a large proportion of the population actually believed him!

Do you reckon Galloway cares for the poor and vulnerable? Can't wait to see his action plan to helping support the people of Rochdale. He only cares about himself and anything that is anti-USA.
