Thank you for all the suggestions for your chart flops of 2009, now we look at the next year, 2010. What songs do you remember from this time and why do you remember them fondly? These could be songs that failed to make the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, or even the Top 75, but they have to have been released as a single at some point during the year.

I will nominate something in a little while that I personally enjoyed in this year, but for now, it’s over to you. happy.gif

#84 for this tune from Mika!

Duffy's 2nd era lead single missed out at 41 too.

Boyzone's follow up to the emotional Stephen Gately 'Gave It All Away' missed out at 44. Thought this was pretty solid as well.

This was a great track from Swedish star Erik Hassle.

Ooooh SO many from this year.

I remember this was widely predicted to be a big hit, it even got Radio 1 support which back then was a big deal but it got to #44 and he was never heard of again. I actually really liked it:

I remember loads of people on here were predicting this to be a top 5, but it ended up at #64. I have a distinct feeling the release of it may have been messed up somehow though:

I'd have also posted Boyzone, Erik Hassle and Sky - all so good. I've realised loads I was going to post actually eventually were small hits in 2011, so I'll have to save them for that thread.

Alphabeat ended up being something of a one-album wonder sadly. The debut was definitely better but The Spell and DJ were solid singles, this didn't reach the top 75 at all.

This actually got to No.35, but I foolishly thought it was going to be some sort of major hit for Katie, as it's brilliant and her prior hit had gone to No.1 in late 2007 with Eva Cassidy.

Hurts had four hits in 2010. Wonderful Life was my favourite, but at least made No.21. This one was No.50, quite a big singalong chorus, it felt bigger.

Interest in our Eurovision entry was so low in 2010 that even fan downloads couldn't get it above...No.179! It sounds like a Jason Donovan Pontins tribute act from 1989 and the vocals in the last 10 seconds are so flat that it's astonishing this wasn't a nul pointer.

A song that did better was this interval act at the contest, which reached No.70, although it was significantly bigger around Europe (No.1 in Norway, top five in Germany...)

No.54...wtf. I loved Robyn's three part Body Talk project released in 2010, such high quality.

The first charting single for Avicii got to No.46 at the end of 2010, although of course under the name Tim Berg he'd had a bigger top 15 hit with Seek Bromance.

A No.57 hit for Taylor Swift, and she also fumbled the bag a bit with the original Speak Now era here. Mine (a No.30 hit in 2010) wasn't the strongest song on the album by any means, and Enchanted was probably a missed opportunity looking back.

I'll post a few more later, but first:

The Beatles - Twist And Shout (#48)
The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun (#64; #58 in 2012)
The Beatles - In My Life (#78)
The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There (#90)

This should have been massive! I think I actually prefer it to her other, bigger ballads. ohmy.gif Truly gorgeous but sadly the 2010 dance-craze ate it up.

This probably got cancelled hence its low peak but wtf were her label thinking? Bey and Alicia were both at the top of their game in 2010.

Again, not really released so not really a flop but why was this not released instead of the dull 'I Got You'?

This was the follow-up to Impossible (iirc) and had the ballad-to-uptempo novelty of PCD's Hush x4. Really enjoyed it at the time and deserved better!

This should have been BIG! Such a unique, unconventional pop song for the time. Poor Tash.

One of the better tracks on The E.N.D. Only made #55 though.

A flop from Alesha after the misjudged Drummer Boy.

Only made #51, I guess it was a late single and everyone had the album.

'You Lost Me' is gorgeousl wub.gif

Also 'I Got You' is one of Leona's better songs imo lol. Was a good upbeat number from her and should've swapped places with 'Happy'!

Yeah I kind of wish I submitted YLM for the 30 Day Song Challenge when it was the song you want to blow up in the charts. laugh.gif It's easily one of her best and could have saved the Bionic era if she performed that on The X Factor final instead of promoting Burlesque! The final that year got like 20 million viewers so I'm sure it would have seen it go top 10 minimum! Mel B.png

Edit: Regarding IGY, never really liked it and found it a bit bland/safe. There were so many better options for second single imo. kink.gif

I recognise that Sky Ferreira song now I've heard it - hadn't realised that was also her, as I love 'Don't Forget' which was her 2022 release!

A few from me - this one reached #79:

One of my faves of the year peaked at #63:

Their last (new) Top 75 hit to date made #68:

This didn't chart but was released alongside 'Wreckin' Bar (Ra Ra Ra)' in 2010 - I caught it on one of the music TV channels then and its still my favourite of theirs:

This didn't chart either, but I prefer it to the two which did from that album:

Finally, there are non-Top 40 charting songs I could have sent for this band for 2005, 2007 and 2010, as well as in future for 2011, 2013 and 2017, but because of reasons, I'll just post this one from their 2010 album which has Regine on vocals:

Adam Lambert made his chart debut over here in 2010, this peaked at 53 and is so much better than the track that did make top 40 ('For Your Entertainment' which I guess could fit here too as it reached 37)!

This was a great track from Swedish star Erik Hassle.

That Mika song is sooo good. I actually forgot it existed (and it's the song for one of my all time favourite movies!!! laugh.gif)

That Erik Hassle track is stunning too and I thought it was going to be one of those big #4 but spends forever in the top 10 kind of smashes.

'You Lost Me' is genuinely gorgeous! Agreed that it's one of her absolute best and deserved the same level of success that 'Hurt' got at LEAST.

You are correct about 'Put It In A Love Song'. Iirc, both of them actually filmed a video for it before it was shelved sad.gif Would have been an incredible Summer single and follow up to 'Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)' (which deserves a mention here itself as that was huge in the US but didn't make a dent here in the UK!)!

OIIIII! NOT THE IGY SHADE!! I still think had they gone with 'Outta My Head' as a late Summer single and launched the album off the back off of 'Happy' the era could have lasted beyond the singles it got! (Kinda like how Little Mix launched 'Wings' and then 'DNA' and then the album with XF promo). 'Echo' is an all time great album for me. 'Can't Breathe' is such a missed opportunity for a single </3 especially for US rhythmic radio at the time!

Shontelle is so underrated </3 What a banger.

Love that Natasha song too. It was really unique for 2010! Endearing too!
