The next batch of acts outside the top 100 I'll discuss, are the most recent additions who've simply not had the time or releases to build up enough points to get into the top 100, but have a good chance of doing so in the coming years. The "newest" act in my top 100 first charted on 09/05/2020. These are the top acts who've made their debut since that point.

Nia Archives
Position: 379
Points: 224
Date first charted: 08/01/2022
Entries: 5

It was the end of last year when 18 & Over came to my attention, jungle not a style of music that I was that familiar with but it was an instant hit and huge grower. I delved into her previous releases and liked what I'd heard, and have been all over everything else she's been involved in since. A fortnight ago she got her 5th entry of the year with So Tell Me... which next week is likely to have climbed high enough for Nia to climb up to my 4th top act of 2022, and has a good chance of outpeaking her debut.

Chart History:
08/01/2022 18 & Over 26-19-15-10-06-05-07-10-15-18-21-26-35-38 (14 weeks)

Dizzy
Position: 305
Points: 270
Date first charted: 15/08/2020
Entries: 4

I first came across Canadian indie-pop band Dizzy in 2019 with their single Heavy which I enjoyed but not quite enough to chart. A year later they were back with their second album and a couple of excellent singles in Roman Candles and Beatrice which both hit the top 3, the album The Sun and Her Scorch is magnificent dream pop. They hit the top 5 again very shortly after with their remix of fellow Canadian Ellis' Saturn Return, and finished the year with a covers EP including a beautiful version of The National's Light Years. They've just released their first new music since then, so am hoping for more hits next year.

Chart History:
15/08/2020 Roman Candles 27-17-10-04-03-04-08-11-17-17-24-32-37 (13 weeks)

19/09/2020 Saturn Return (Remix of Ellis) 36-27-19-13-07-05-09-14-20-27-37 (11 weeks)

Nia Archives wub.gif What a revelation she has been since that Club Bizarre contest and only going from strength to strength. Winning a MOBO and a Brit nomination.

Forbidden Feelingz and So Tell Me went top 10 for me. Great to hear the latter is still going to climb for you. Baina wormed it's way into my head after not being to keen on it initially

W. H. Lung
Position: 266
Points: 310
Date first charted: 23/01/2021
Entries: 4

At the end of 2020 some of W. H. Lung's music was used in the first series of BBC/HBO series Industry, which I watched and was all over Shazam to find out what it was, and their songs begun to get some more prominent streaming playlist support as a result. Both of their albums are great, and the vinyl of Simpatico People adorns the wall of my living room, synth laden indie with superb and often completely nonsensical lyrics. They were my second most successful act of 2021 with two number ones in the form of Second Death of My Face and Pearl in the Palm, with another top 5 to follow. The albums are both top 5 of their respective years for me.

Chart History:
23/01/2021 Second Death of My Face 28-16-07-01-01-01-04-04-04-05-07-09-10-14-20-25-29-33-40 (19 weeks)

Thanks Kath, glad you're a fan. Forbidden Feelingz and Heads Gone West were the two I liked most of her older material. I was pretty similar with Biaina, it's fine and I did end up liking it, but took a while and not as much as others.

Anyway, about acts you might like kink.gif

HAAi
Position: 241
Points: 337
Date first charted: 29/01/2022
Entries: 5

And now for my most successful act of this year, London based Australian DJ, producer and vocalist HAAi, who isn't someone I'd come across before this year when she joined Romy for one of Fred Again's many collaborations with Lights Out, which quickly became a top 10 hit. The Spring release of her debut album was one I got into a lot, with the standout title track Baby, We're Ascending with Jon Hopkins going right to the top, it's so euphoric and would be a serious song of the year contender if it weren't for the presence of Doomscroller. Everything she appears on now gets put onto my new music playlists on Spotify, so no chance of me messing her turning a nice but tad dull Warpaint song into a pure banger, and the standout of Daniel Avery's recent material as they gave her top 10 hits number 3 & 4.

Chart History:
29/01/2022 Lights Out (w/ Fred Again.. & Romy) 32-25-15-08-08-14-20-32-40 (9 weeks)
21/05/2022 Baby, We're Ascending (feat. Jon Hopkins) 28-20-13-09-05-03-01-02-03-05-05-08-12-15-19-22-26-32-39 (19 weeks)
18/06/2022 Human Sound (feat. Kai-Isaiah Jamal & Obi Franky) 33-25-20-17-22-34-40 (7 weeks)
13/08/2022 Champion (Remix of Warpaint) 33-21-11-11-10-09-08-15-21-30-38 (11 weeks)

I adore HAAi. What a talent, both with her own music and as a remixer. That's a sensational chart run for Baby, We're Ascending *.* All the singles from the album have gone top 10 for me + Wall Of Sleep which is still top 10 in my chart this week :')

LOVE that Warpaint remix as well! She even managed to make Ashnikko and Princess Nokia sound amazing somehow.

Arlo Parks
Position: 235
Points: 342
Date first charted: 30/05/2020
Entries: 5

Coming in slightly higher than HAAi is Arlo Parks. Sophie and the Easy Life collaboration Sangria were the first songs of hers I came across, and both were pleasant enough but didn't quite get into them enough to chart them. That all changed with Black Dog, such beautiful lyrics about coping with depression, such a magnificent song that made me check out a lot more of her earlier material, the Super Sad Generation EP really is excellent. Her debut album Collapsed In Sunbeams was a great debut, with Hurt and Too Good being standouts both hitting #6. An I. JORDAN remix of her work with Future Utopia elevated a boring song to give her a 5th hit last year.

Chart History:
30/05/2020 Black Dog 28-19-08-01-01-01-01-01-02-02-03-03-04-05-09-13-20-26-34-40 (20 weeks)

For Those I Love
Position: 228
Points: 351
Date first charted: 03/10/2020
Entries: 5

The top 2 acts here were responsible for my two favourite albums of 2021, the first of which being Irish act David Balfe AKA For Those I Love. His self-title debut album a largely spoken word over beats in a strong Irish accent. It's not for everyone but with it dedicated to his friend who'd died, the subject matter is always so raw and emotive. First single I Have a Love is a song I grew to love so much more than I did at the time of its release when it peaked at #4, with Birthday/The Pain being the other standout. 4/5 singles have made the top 10 including an Ela Minus remix, which elevated the song into a banger.

Chart History:
03/10/2020 I Have a Love 27-16-09-08-04-04-07-15-24-34-39-39 (12 weeks)

Self Esteem
Position: 172
Points: 422
Date first charted: 15/05/2021
Entries: 5

Not quite as much of a newbie as others here had been, and she had technically charted once previously with Slow Club in 2014, but Self Esteem has been an absolute sensation in the last two years. The Best had made my bubbling under chart in 2019 and was something I'd listened to a lot for a song which I didn't chart, but it wasn't until I Do This All The Time was released that I took much notice, with a super quick rise to the top where it stayed for five weeks for a song which is, quite frankly, genius. 6 of the 7 singles she's released from Prioritise Pleasure have charted, with The 345 this week becoming the 5th which has made the top 10. It's an album so wonderfully varied and creative, full of high points, I'm Fine and f***ing Wizardry are sensational.

She's a superb live act too and it's great to see her playing such big tours and shows - February will be fourth time I've seen her and I can't wait. My year end listening chart will almost certainly have her top 5 for a second consecutive year. I have revisited the debut album a few times, and whilst it's a decent pop album it just doesn't compare to last years.

Chart History:
15/05/2021 I Do This All The Time 31-12-01-01-01-01-01-03-06-06-07-11-15-21-27-36 (16 weeks)
11/09/2021 How Can I Help You 25-20-17-19-27-28-29-36-38 (9 weeks)
02/10/2021 Moody 25-19-11-06-05-06-09-17-20-28-38 (11 weeks)
12/03/2022 You Forever (Pop Off Edit) 27-14-08-06-08-12-19-31-40 (9 weeks)
27/08/2022 f***ing Wizardry (Block Them Edit) 31-20-12-03-05-09-07-10-16-20-28-39-40 (13 weeks)

I thought there were two acts in my top 100 who were popular enough on BuzzJack to have their own forum, however since I last paid attention to what Artist forums were on this site they've both been deleted, so to try and make this as site-friendly as possible, here are my Top 6 BuzzJack Artist Forums. For this exercise, I'm going by forum, so combining all acts within that for each one.

06 - Taylor Swift
Points: 382
Date first charted: 01/08/2020
Entries: 6

I've said on this site previously that my Taylor gap was a bit of a shame, but in the first few years of her career everything I ever heard by her was either something that was far removed from the type of thing I'd listen to (Love Story), annoying (I Knew You Were Trouble) or just downright terrible (We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is comfortably in my 10 worst songs of that decade), so as I reached a point where I was very rarely in a place where I would hear the likes of Taylor Swift on the radio, and stopped caring completely about the charts, I paid absolutely no attention to anything she released, in the same way I wouldn't by someone like Jessie J. Shake It Off was the only song following those that ever entered my consciousness, and whilst it was better, it's still pretty annoying and at no point has it ever been something I'd listen to by choice.

That changed in 2020, not when she started working with people I actually liked, but when I'd started posting more on this site again and the AF Idol competition was ran, which I partook in and discovered the likes of All Too Well, Wildest Dreams, New Romantics, and yes, even Style and Blank Space, all of which were excellent and I started listening to some of her stuff more regularly.

Then she released music with people I'd liked for ages and I became somewhat obsessed. On my last.fm, since 1st April 2020, I've only listened to three acts more than Taylor, which I find absolutely astounding. The standout is, of course, Exile which, spoiler alert, I may discuss in the top 100 too, as it shot up to the top in record time and I had a period of about a month where I listened to it as much as I'd ever listen to one song. Half of Folklore is genuinely exceptional, and the other half is generally pretty decent too. Evermore contained some songs I've listened to a lot too, and I've enjoyed Midnights on the few listens I've given so far. Exile aside, the other song that I absolutely adore is the updated 10 minute version of All Too Well. It was already the song of hers I'd listened to most, but coupled with the video/film for it, the long version has taken it to new levels. I'd definitely consider them both amongst favourite all-time songs, and think it's a real shame I ignored her for so long (though I still put more that blame on her than me!)

Chart History:
01/08/2020 Exile (feat. Bon Iver) 13-02-01-01-01-01-01-03-06-08-10-14-20-26-31-35-39-40 (18 weeks)
08/08/2020 Cardigan 29-21-19-15-19-26-34-38 (8 weeks)
26/12/2020 Willow 34-24-17-13-09-08-10-14-20-30-39 (11 weeks)
13/11/2021 All Too Well (10 Minute Taylor's Version) 31-11-06-05-08-11-16-26-35-40 (10 weeks)
09/01/2021 No Body, No Crime (feat. HAIM) 30-26-27-37 (4 weeks)

05 - Rihanna
Points: 471
Date first charted: 14/05/2007
Entries: 8

Rihanna takes a place inside the top 150, but hasn't charted for over a decade now so shows no signs of halting a reverse further down. Her first real smash hit Umbrella was the first I charted, although got tired of it pretty quickly, the singles prior to that I hadn't been a fan of at all (although SOS holds a certain charm) but that third era was the one that produced her big hits, with three of its later singles all reaching the top 5 as I got fully on board with her commercial success, Don't Stop The Music in particular is still great.

Being at university from 2007-11 her songs were absolutely everywhere, and definitely helped me like some more than I would have, none more so than the T.I. collaboration Live Your Life, which I'm surprised at how successful I made it! We Found Love is her equal longest running hit, but didn't quite hit the same heights as others, it's certainly the song of hers I'd most likely listen to now. Of her singles which haven't charted, Diamonds and Take a Bow would be the two I'd consider to be most unlucky and probably both fit into a 2023 Rihanna Top 5.

14/05/2007 Umbrella (feat. Jay-Z) 31-24-23 (3 weeks)
13/08/2007 Shut Up And Drive 20-13-12-10-04-06-09-15-17-21-29-39 (12 weeks)
14/01/2008 Don't Stop The Music 05-04-03-05-09-10-05-12-16-20-17-21-24-29-32 (15 weeks)
04/08/2008 Disturbia 20-11-08-05-05-05-08-14-20-23-22-30 (12 weeks)
17/11/2008 Live Your Life (w/ T.I.) 13-05-06-13-18-13-16-16-20-25-35 (11 weeks)
25/10/2010 Only Girl (In The World) 40-37 (2 weeks)
14/02/2011 S&M 27-23-27-38-X-24-19-14-30 (8 weeks)

04 - Lady Gaga
Points: 518
Date first charted: 12/01/2009
Entries: 8

Some significant similarities with Rihanna here, like her Lady Gaga has 8 entries in total, hasn't charted since 2011 so has been gradually falling ever since, and her best song is a collaboration with an act who does feature so will talk about in much more depth later. It was rare she missed at the beginning of her career, as I tended to at least like everything she released, with four consecutive top 6 hits from The Fame and Monster editions following the debut of Just Dance, and the beginning of the next era was decent enough too, and I'd listen to Born This Way over any of The Fame singles nowadays. After that I've struggled to care, even her really big hits just haven't hit the spot with me. It was a great three years which amassed 518 points which puts her 120th overall.

Chart History:
12/01/2009 Just Dance 35-23-19-17-22-35-40 (7 weeks)

Dropping in again as I attempt to slowly catch up with the avalanche of threads in here laugh.gif

Metric missing your top 100 is quite a surprise indeed but nice to see 'Doomscroller' getting a mention in here, certainly a highlight of the year for me too (I enjoyed the rest of the new album too but that song is far and away the best on it). A few all time faves showing up in the top 5 of the 'bubbling under' bunch, 'Sweet Disposition' in particular is just a song that always hits wub.gif (they are a two-hit wonder for me, I loved 'Fader' too - one of my early BJSC entries - but I don't recall if I ever even heard anything else from them!) and while I definitely understand tiring on 'Mr. Brightside' over time I actually think it's an evergreen song that hasn't really tired on me at all (maybe like 10% x) despite being overplayed for literally as long as I can remember. My interest in The Killers had been waning a bit in the 10s after loving nearly all of their 00s singles but I loved both of their last 2 albums so they still have it for me!

I didn't really get into '18 & Over' (sorry!) but I've been a fan of pretty much everything I have heard from Nia Archives since then so she's definitely a name I'm more excited about now. HAAi has also been a great 2022 artist discovery for me, also discovered her via 'Lights Out' and she's been consistently quality since then. Self Esteem had some great stuff on her album too, I did find it a bit hit or miss though so hoping the next one will be more consistent. My favourite from this album was the one single you didn't chart oops (and I remember you not really mincing words about it in the album thread so I think that one's an agree to disagree unless it ended up growing on you ph34r.gif)

Taylor Swift is possibly the ultimate hit or miss artist for me, she has plenty of really great songs but also more than her fair share of stuff that's borderline unlistenable - and that's not only a case of her starting bad and getting better over time (though that's broadly the case in general), there are a couple of tracks even on 'Midnights' that I'd put close to the latter category. 'folklore' and 'evermore' are both consistently great albums though, bar maybe 1 or 2 tracks each.

03 - Girls Aloud
Points: 524
Date first charted: 12/01/2009
Entries: 10

For individual acts, Lady Gaga would be second in this countdown, but combining totals to make Forum totals mean two overtake her, the first of which is Girls Aloud. They started brightly with a couple of top 10 hits but would only reach it twice more. I did find their singles quite hit and miss, and I never got into some of their most popular hits (Biology/Something Kinda Oooh) at all, but their were bright moments in here, The Show and Love Machine were probably a tad underrated, although those two covers certainly aren't songs I'd listen to now! Their final album was the only one I listened to in full, which I really enjoyed and in The Loving Kind and Untouchable, produced the two songs of theirs I listen to most still - not quite sure why I made one a 16 week #1 and the other a 5 week #21. Nicola Roberts debut single is the only solo single I've charted, although Four Tet's BACK2THESTART did reach number one in 2015, and did use some of the lyrics of Fight For This Love...

I'll try and keep up with this, I really like most of your commiserations so I'm sure that's a good indication for the rest of this! HAAi and Self Esteem have been great discoveries for me over the last few years, and I've had a similar trajection to you with Taylor Swift, just a shame about the slight blip in between Style and Folklore!

02 - Robbie Williams & Take That
Points: 543
Date first charted: 06/01/2003
Entries: 12

Erm... Robbie Williams overall position of 155 puts him as the third lowest act to have got to double figures in chart entries, ahead of both Haim (167) and Lykke Li (174), however both of those acts I still listen to a fair amount, whereas from this list the only one I've listened to in years is Rule The World. I did like Robbie a lot when I was younger, his early work was pretty good pop music and I was a child, and his latter albums continued to have most of his singles charting in some capacity. Feel and Trippin I'd probably give a listen to now, half of these I don't even remember how they go. As for Take That, I've always been very meh about their comeback songs, they're all fine but nothing special, Rule the World aside which is still a fantastic song.

Chart History:

03/10/2005 Trippin 04-09-08-10-11-13-18-20-26-39 (10 weeks)
12/12/2005 Advertising Space 10-16-19-20-23-28-32-35-39 (9 weeks)

Dropping in again as I attempt to slowly catch up with the avalanche of threads in here laugh.gif

Thanks for such a detailed comment Bre.

I do think that lyrically Prioritise Pleasure is great, but I've never enjoyed hearing that screechy synth in it - it grew on me a bit and I don't skip it, but it's one of maybe 3 on the album that I never put on out of choice.

Definitely agree with all of that on Taylor, even going back I do seem to have to go through a lot of poor stuff to find the great ones, although they are great, whereas recent albums are the complete opposite, both only have a couple of skips, and that's more cos they're too boring rather than outright bad like some of her other stuff.
