This Rogue-lite Pokemon battling browser-based game spanning all 9 generations has been BLOWING UP this last week. Very addictive if you can get into it!

Quick Synopsis: First, you have to pick your team. You have all the starters from Gen 1-9 available to you. But every Pokemon you catch on your run becomes available for selection on your next. Catch a Zubat? You can start with it next time for two points. Catch a Raichu? Pikachu will set you back four points next time around. Each battle acts like a level. Win ten battles and you’ve cleared a floor. This is the only time your team will get fully healed free of charge. Between battles you can spend your meagre earnings on Potions, Revives, and other items, as well as picking one freebie to progress to the next battle.

PokeRogue cleverly implements items from many Pokemon games to create interesting interactions. Lures from Pokemon Go, for instance, increase the likelihood of finding double battles, which offer twice as much experience as encountering a single Pokemon. While each floor has a level cap (which you can only surpass using Rare Candies, another handy item), you want to be as close to it as possible for the difficult trainer battles. The Gamer .has a great write-up on this.

I failed my first few attempts but now I am really starting to gain ground - most of my Pokemon are now Level 100 with some really great add-ons to ensure I survive each battle. This works GREAT on Mobile!

Yeah this is pretty addictive - I really appreciate the super quick gameplay but the strategy that goes into this is great as well.
UNFORTUNATELY I lost to my Rival so my entire team of Level 120+ Pokémon are ALL GONE.

I did try and pick up a new game again (probably 7th or 8th attempt) but didn’t make it very far laugh.gif

I haven’t looked into the mechanics of this too much honestly. Is there an end to this? One of the Twitch streamers I was watching said he “beat” the game in his FIRST play.

THIS Specifically was the battle I lost that will haunt me like WHERE’D YOU GET THAT SHINY RAYQUAZA.

I believe the end of the classic mode is at level 200? After that I think you unlocked an Endless mode

I got lucky with a Galarian Articuno egg on my first run through and it absolutely annihilates everything with decent nature and IVs. Oblivion Wing recovering back any lost HP meant I didn’t need to use up any free items / money on healing, meaning I could stack my bird up with berries and held items.

I also learnt that if you have a Shiny in your party it increases the odds of getting the rarer items in loot drops. I got the map which lets you choose the biome path you take before wave 35 on my last run meaning my GArticuno could avoid any biomes full of mons that would destroy me (rock specifically). Ancient Power, Freezing Glare, Oblivion Wing wipes out basically everything. AP is worth it for that odd chance you get a full stat boost which allows you to fully outspeed and outpower most things. I only lost around wave 160 because I misclicked

I got Zygarde, Regieleki, and Keldeo too but I didn’t have as much luck using those. H-Electrode does a fantastic job until maybe level 80-90, Charge Beam upping SpAtk almost every time meant most things were one shot and whatever would tank an electric move could not take a BP150 +3Sp.Atk Chloroblast

That sounds soooo lush.
Honestly, I didn’t even realize there was a MENU until I started a second game on my Laptop. I ONLY just figured out there are eggs (and all the hatches I’ve had have been trash).

I caught a Fire/Fighting Tauros with great stats and Flame Charge so I just spam that and a few other moves to death. I also finally got a DNA Splicer so used that right away.

I still haven’t made it past that battle above - I definitely need to focus more on Strategy. Regular Pokémon games I usually just throw powerful moves on my Mons and I do just fine. This is definitely a game that requires a good strategy at times. Reminds me of all the awesome fan games I’ve played.

Rival at 145 is being a real bitch today

I had no idea the DNA Splicer was a thing until you mentioned it! A quick google and it sounds like it could be OP but very dependent on what your team is looking like in the moment. I just got an IV Scanner on my current run which lets you see the two best IVs on wild Pokémon before you battle which is kinda cool, helpful for future-starter building maybe
