The second quarter of 2011 had the following flops;
Emily Osment – Lovesick [Peaked at #57 in April 2011] Actress and Disney star Emily Osment had a charting song in 2011 which flopped. It’s the only charting single in the short music career she had at the time. Tinie Tempah feat. Travis Barker – Simply Unstoppable (Yes Remix) [Peaked at #33 in April 2011] One of Tinie’s best singles thanks to a collaboration with Travis Barker of Blink-182 fame. The song was actually a promotional song used in a Lucazade advert at the time. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – The Golden Age [Peaked at #70 in May 2011] The only charting single for this Danish band who showed much potential at the time. They released a few albums between 2008-2014 but then started to fizzle out. Charlie Simpson – Down Down Down [Peaked at #65 in May 2011] As one third of Busted, Charlie Simpson was much later in releasing solo material than Matt Willis or James Bourne (as part of Son Of Dork). His first solo effort was this flop from early 2011. Jedward – Lipstick [Peaked at #40 in May 2011] Ireland chose X Factor twins Jedward as their Eurovision act in 2011 and this was the song that represented them. It would go on to become their second and final charting single. Alexis Jordan – Hush Hush [Peaked at #66 in June 2011] Following two Top 10 hits, this third was not as lucky and managed to flop well outside the Top 40 in the Summer. Her short career was over very quickly after this flop. Olly Murs – Busy [Peaked at #45 in June 2011] This misfire from Olly Murs saw him get his first flop single, but he quickly bounced back from the disappointment with a #1 later in the year. Parade – Perfume [Peaked at #38 in June 2011] Having already scored a Top 10 debut hit, the future looked promising for this girl group, but after this single struggled to make the Top 40 they were dropped as a band. |

'Busy' is one of Olly's best from his earliest stuff. Nice track. Also like 'Hush Hush' there too. Shame Alexis Jordan didn't continue her success longer than 2 or 3 songs though.

That Alexis Jordan - Hush Hush one still bothers me. It sounded like a huge smash and should've been.
My only conclusion is Radio 1 and the like were unwilling to support it after the performance of her album or something. |

Not the best start for the lead single for the second era of The Ting Tings. After the success of their debut in 2007-09, in comes Hang It Up at the end of 2011 and limped into #124 in the chart. This was the last time they were "seen" in the singles chart. I think it's a bloody good song to be fair, it's catchy and the production is reminiscent of 'The Big Beat' (which Dizzee Rascal also sampled). It's always stuck in my head for ages after I hear it!

Here’s some unmentioned flops from the third quarter of 2011;
Martin Solveig feat. Kele – Ready To Go [Peaked at #48 in July 2011] Having not yet established himself as a serious hitmaker, DJ Martin Solveig teamed up with Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke for this single to follow up his earlier hit Hello. LMFAO feat. Natalia Kills – Champagne Showers [Peaked at #32 in July 2011] One of the most interesting new artists of 2011 was these guys, and their ability to score a major summer #1 single should have given this one a better peak than what it got, but it wasn’t to be. Beady Eye – The Beat Goes On [Peaked at #64 in July 2011] Also known as Liam Gallagher’s other band, Beady Eye had a few low charting singles in 2010 and 2011, and this was the last one to make it into the charts at a very low peak. Robyn – Call Your Girlfriend [Peaked at #55 in August 2011] She should have racked up so many more hits in her career for the legacy she left, but this was just another example of not quite enough to break into the charts, and it deserved better. Evanescence – What You Want [Peaked at #72 in August 2011] Having been one of the biggest names of the year in 2003 with their huge hit Bring Me To Life, the relevance of Evanescence was all but over by now as this flop proved. Nicola Roberts – Lucky Day [Peaked at #40 in September 2011] Her second solo single was this one from the Girls Aloud star, she wasn’t quite able to make it as a solo artist but she did have a couple of Top 40 singles to her name so that’s something. |

I loved 'Lucky Day' and really disliked 'Beat of My Drum' back then!
I also loved 'Champagne Showers' back then and was disappointed by its chart peak. This post has been edited by TheSnake: Saturday, 08:31 PM |

A final batch of flops for 2011 from the fourth quarter;
Timbaland feat. Pitbull – Pass At Me [Peaked at #40 in October 2011] Timbo and Mr. Worldwide should have been a collaboration that stormed the charts at the time of their peak, but this miserable chart peak showed that the song just wasn’t it. Example vs. Laidback Luke – Natural Disaster [Peaked at #37 in October 2011] This always seemed bigger to me than its chart peak suggests, and for the latter, it was only his second ever Top 40 single. Example would go on to score many more hits though. Slow Moving Millie – Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want [Peaked at #31 in November 2011] A one-flop-wonder was this song by Slow Moving Millie, which respectably did reach the Top 40 for more than a week, but maybe has been lost in the archives of history since then. Cee Lo Green – Anyway [Peaked at #52 in December 2011] The demise of Cee Lo Green as an artist was very rapid, from having a major #1 single in 2006 with Gnarls Barkley, to a solo #1 in 2010, things just started going downhill from there, and this was his penultimate charting single. Alexandra Stan – Get Back [Peaked at #56 in December 2011] Flowed by releasing right when all the Christmas hits flooded the charts, Alexandra Stan tried to get another hit off the back of Mr. Saxobeat but she was not able to repeat the success here. Grouplove – Tongue Tied [Peaked at #84 in December 2011] Never likely to do well amidst the Christmas singles, but this flop did pick up some traction at the time and could have done better if the release was delayed by a few weeks. |

Whilst not as good as 'Mr Saxobeat' I did find 'Get Back' another bop!

This is my favourite single from their Mercury Prize-nominated album English Riviera - some great early 80s New Romantic/Brit-funk influenced music. |

Champagne Showers definitely deserved better but it suffered at the hands of Party Rock Anthem still being such a mainstay in the chart I think. If you look at Sexy And I Know It going to #5, I think Champagne Showers would've benefitted from being held back a few weeks (or skipped over and released later on)

The Example and Laidback Luke track was great, the chorus production is very similar to trance really. Slow Moving Millie lived up to her name chartwise - her song didn't really didn't get anywhere. |

I thought 'Natural Disaster' would be huge at the time, it sounded like it would be and especially coming after two #1s!
