Hauschka Snowflakes and Carwrecks EP FatCat 24. Desire II Italians Do It Better 23. La Roux La Roux Polydor 22. Marissa Nadler Little Hells Kemado 21. Basement Jaxx Scars XL I shall talk more about the Top 10 of coursezz. I don't there to be TOO MUCH excitement about this list as I just did my decade list so things are to be expected. There are changezz though, as a month has gone by since then and two month since I originally compiled said list. Good stuff here. <3 La Roux h8erz can go to the LEFT. Her music is amazing and intelligent. Personality = -1 points on Buzzjack though. D; |

The Antlers Hospice Frenchkiss 19. Florence and the Machine Lungs Island 18. Animal Collective Fall Be Kind EP Domino 17. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart The Pains of Being Pure at Heart Slumberland 16. The Mountain Goats The Lfe of the World to Come 4AD Indietastic with a hint of pop (Florence). ;o Antlers make gorgeous, heartbreaking lo-fi indie anthems. See: Kettering. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are a lovely throwback to 80's british indie a la The Smiths. The Mountain Goats are just amazing, plain and simple. Quite a religious record but mainly just based on the stories. John Darnielle should be my husband tbh. <3 And I've praised Animal Collective enough on this forum. |

Fever Ray Fever Ray Rabid 09. Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca Domino 08. Fuck Buttons Tarot Sport ATP 07. Bat for Lashes Two Suns Parlophone 06. Wild Beasts Two Dancers Domino Fever Ray; a haunting, yet beautiful minimalistic record. Less is more. Dirty Projectors; a mix of r&b influences and abstract indie nonsense. A great juxtaposition that makes for a compelling listen. Their best yet. Fuck Buttons; Crazy and out of this world electronic album. Abstract and thrilling. Bat for Lashes; Natasha is a wonderful storyteller who makes glorious and haunting music. She's brilliant live, as well. Listen to 'Wilderness' from the special edition if you haven't, amaze. Wild Beats; a great concept album about thugs/vandals/scoundrels/lower class society etc. which is interesting considering the elegance in how these songs are crafted. "This is a booty call / my boot up your arse hole." |

Yeah Yeah Yeahs It's Blitz! Interscope It's impossible for this band to put out a bad record. Impossible. They just keep getting better and better with each release (though I still think Fever to Tell is their finest work). This is a ballsy, electro/rock fusion that results in 10 epic songs. Seriously, they like create a world of awesomeness within each song. Not one bad track. It's energetic and amazeeeee. If you're a casual music fan / tend to gravitate towards Top 10 tracks, give this a shot. It's gooooood. 04. Phoenix Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix V2 This album is like a Blockbuster movie. An amazing one like The Dark Knight. Seriously. It just appeals to everyone. This is a prime example of what the pop-rock genre can and should be. Again, a fan of pop typically? Dislike indie? Try this. Lots of electro influence as well as classical influences like Mozart, Franz Liszt, etc. OH SNAP WHO IS TOP 3? |

The xx xx Young Turks Beautiful, sexy, and minimalistic music. Music for lovers, basically. The female/male vocals compliment each other so incredibly well. Less is truly more in the case of The xx. If you're writing them off, give them another chance, as they truly are worth it. The hype is actually true for once. 02. Neon Indian Psychic Chasms Lefse This album is amazing to do drugs too. It's a wonderful haze that hides the poppy hooks hidden beneath. Every song is catchy, charming, and takes you places. In the year of Animal Collective, this is a great followup. 01. Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavillion Domino Was it ever going to be anything else? I actually did consider putting The xx, Neon Indian, and Phoenix on top, but this was always going to be #1 to be honest. My mind changes often though and this top 5 will likely get switched around, but for now, Animal Collective reign supreme. This is a glorious record. There are just so many layers to it, with the weirdest sounds being used in the weirdest ways, but they're incredibly effective and catchy. There's just something wonderful about listening to this album, not in the pretentious 'I enjoy Animal Collective' way, but moreso that it's just an entertaining, weird, catchy pop album. Ultimately, Animal Collective have undeniable pop influences, which is what makes them so incredibly strong. It's a wonderful mix of the abstract/bizarre and the poppy/catchy hooks that draw you in. A lovely juxtaposition. Thanks for the comments everyone. ;o Merry Christmas. |
