'no tears left to cry' was a defiant return to the charts following the tragedy in Manchester that had shaken her world the year prior. Ari was moving forward with the message that it was important to rise above the hate in the world. She did so in a way that would connect with fans and critics alike on a big level. 'no tears left to cry' blended her dance-pop lane with U.K. garage, disco and R&B elements. Her vocals soar as she took an ethereal approach from start to finish. The music video for 'no tears left to cry' is one of her most celebrated also as it explores the concept of her disorientated world, matching the upside down text of the single artwork. This video sits at an incredible 1.1 billion views currently. Ariana was very unlucky to run into the juggernaut that was 'One Kiss' by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa, the biggest song of 2018 here in the U.K., so had to settle for a #2 peak.  my last.fm paints such a clear picture of the day this came out! It starts with classical music, as I was putting together the finishing touches of my dissertation and then submitting it. Then the music I listened to transformed into a feel-good playlist while I celebrated in the garden with lovely weather. Then you can see it sadly morphing into Avicii's discography as his death was announced that day as well. Finally, it rounds off with me spamming 'no tears left to cry'. I fell in love with it very quickly and still think it's one of her very best songs and videos, just gorgeous
