This list gives us an insight into the biggest 'selling' songs to never reach the top 10, 40 or 75.

16 DO I WANNA KNOW ARCTIC MONKEYS 2013 11
50 SUMMER OF '69 BRYAN ADAMS 1985 42
58 THE CHAIN FLEETWOOD MAC 1977 81

I do wonder if there's any data on the biggest selling not to chart at all (i.e. in the top 100 since it became one).

Mr. Brightside - biggest song and biggest song by a group to not make #1
All Of Me - biggest song by a male soloist to not reach #1
Cheap Thrills - biggest song by a female soloist to not make #1
Fairytale Of New York - biggest seasonal song and biggest song with a featured artist to not make #1
Do I Wanna Know? - biggest song to not make the top 10
Dog Days Are Over - biggest song to not make the top 20, but peaked in the top 30
Go Your Own Way - biggest song to not make the top 30, but peaked in the top 40
Summer of '69 - biggest song to not make the top 40, but peaked in the top 50
The Chain - biggest song to not make the top 75, but peaked in the top 100

Biggest non-number one songs of each decade:

1990s: Oasis - Wonderwall
2000s: The Killers - Mr. Brightside
2010s: John Legend - All Of Me

^^
You need a male soloist, not a group, so John Legend instead of Oasis

Think Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams Come True was the first to go double platinum.

It's a shame 'Torn' is now at the bottom of this list when honestly it feels like a much bigger song than so many above it.

If this was the same size hit in the streaming era the sales would be massive.

My god that turgid saccharine nonsense by John Legend sure sticks out among five tracks that regardless of being overplay kings are at their heart stone cold classics.

(well I suppose it's too early to refer to Heat Waves as a 'classic' but you get the point)

Cheers Julian. Guess that's a pretty safe bet for the (combined sales/streams) highest ranking non-charter then.

Definitely.

It's a widely-known and beloved song that still streams and sells well though (it's gotta be doing at least 2k a week surely?).

Surely ‘Dreams’ is the biggest song to make the top 30 but not the top 20, not ‘Dog Days Are Over’ giving Fleetwood Mac 3 songs on this list.
