Afternoon all! As always, NO SPOILERS PLEASE!

It's going to be a bit of a weird show today on Buzzjack - I'm hosting for about 50 minutes but I'm going out (to see Charli XCX *.*) at an earlier time than was originally advertised. There won't be a host posting the full posts for the remainder of the show, so if one of you fancies posting the positions as we go along, please feel free. When I'm home, I'll edit all of the information in so nobody is missing out. So sorry for the inconvenience, it's not what I'd planned for...!

This also means the sales rip today will be delayed. I'll be home by 9 or so, so it won't be super late, but I will have to ask for your patience in the meantime until I'm available.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Biography

A need to connect authentically drives every aspect of Benson Boone’s artistry. From his unflinchingly honest lyrics to hand-drawn artwork, there is no buffer between him and the listener. That’s particularly true of “GHOST TOWN,” the 19-year-old’s astonishing debut single. A poignant piano ballad about moving on, this is the calling card of a major new talent. Incredibly, “GHOST TOWN” was one of the first songs Boone ever wrote. But the Monroe, Washington native has a habit of being very good at things without realizing it. In fact, his musical talent only emerged by coincidence when he was asked to sing in a friend’s band. Now, he’s making up for lost time. So much so that Boone plays multiple instruments on “GHOST TOWN” including the drums, guitar and piano, which he picked up by ear. The multi-talented teenager even drew the striking cover art. That desire for a genuine, unfiltered connection with fans is why he stepped away from American Idol, despite wowing judges at auditions. Instead, Boone connected with Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds. “It was our first writing session together when I realized [Benson] is a once in a generation talent,” Reynolds says. While the newcomer is still at the very beginning of his music journey, he’s in it for the long haul. Boone’s goal is to make songs that stand the test of time. With “GHOST TOWN,” the singer/songwriter takes an auspicious first step towards achieving it. - Spotify

It's done pretty well for a song with middling Hot Hits support and no radio support though!

Great hearing this on the chart again heart.gif

Biography

According to legend, Glass Animals chose their name by picking two words out of the dictionary at random—but you couldn’t come up with a better combination for a group that toes the line between the pristine and primal. On their 2014 debut, Zaba, the Oxford quartet aligned themselves with a storied lineage of abstract alt-rock—the moody atmospheres of Radiohead, the tropical textures of Animal Collective—but in Dave Bayley, Glass Animals possess an uncommonly smooth singer who could mould those left-field influences into sultry, R&B-flavoured pop songs. While the album made them indie darlings, it also earned the group admirers beyond the typical NME reader—the 2015 single “Lose Control” saw them team up with Brooklyn MC Joey Bada$$ for a trippy rap track. That sense of anything-goes openness fully flourished on 2016’s How to Be a Human Being, whose procession of freaky, funky anthems and synth-smeared slow jams earned Glass Animals their first Mercury Prize nomination. But after drummer Joe Seaward was nearly killed in a 2018 cycling accident, Glass Animals dialled down the eccentricity for 2020’s Dreamland, a more intimate record that further harmonized the art-rock/club-pop dialectic at the heart of their music. Speaking about the single “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” to Apple Music, Hayley said, “The idea was to take my favourite '90s producers like Timbaland and The Neptunes and the way they used samples, yet record a lot of those sounds in the way The Beatles or Beach Boys might’ve done it... and then taking Beatles and Beach Boys sounds and resampling them as [those producers] might’ve done.” That Dreamland cracked the Top 10 in both the UK and US is a testament to Glass Animals’ gift for melding different styles and eras into the sound of now. - Apple Music

Biography

Diplo
As a kid growing up in South Florida, Diplo listened to whatever: hip-hop, punk rock, Miami bass, Christian radio. “I would watch Rap City on BET and then Country Music Television back-to-back every day after I got out of school,” he told Apple Music in 2020. “It was equal.” The attitude stuck. More than just a DJ or producer, Diplo has become an avatar for the eclectic, border-free nature of pop in the internet era, the kind of artist who not only jumps from genre to genre, but also finds the common denominator that brings them all together. If his teenage listening habits didn’t make immediate sense, that’s the point: It isn’t where the music comes from, it’s how you hear it. Born Thomas Wesley Pentz in 1978, he got his start in his mid-twenties as half of the DJ duo Hollertronix, whose mixes—think “Rock the Casbah” with a Missy Elliott verse on top—captured the wild omnivorousness of 2000s mash-up culture. A few years later, he cofounded Major Lazer, a collaborative, shapeshifting project that brought global dance music to the big-tent festival crowd. The records he’s worked on since—M.I.A.’s ”Paper Planes,” Usher’s “Climax,“ Beyoncé’s “Hold Up,” the Skrillex and Justin Bieber collaboration “Where Are Ü Now”—constitute some of the best, most progressive pop of the millennium, the kind of tracks that have appealed as much to club audiences as to critical cognoscenti. He’s also used his platform to shed light on lesser-known global dance scenes, from New Orleans bounce to Brazilian baile funk—a role that elevates the DJ to cultural ambassador. He plays about 300 shows a year. On a break from touring during 2020, he said there were parts of his house he swears he’d never seen before. And he was ready to get back out and party. - Apple Music

Miguel
Miguel’s sound evolves every time he encounters a new way to express love—and as one of pop’s friskiest experimentalists, that means his career is a study in subverting the very notion of a conventional R&B star. The singer/songwriter born Miguel Jontel Pimentel (Los Angeles, 1985) was drawn to music’s insider/outsiders from the beginning, mimicking the moves of Michael Jackson at family gatherings at age three, and later drawing both artistic and sartorial inspiration from the likes of David Bowie, Prince, and Jimi Hendrix. So when it came time for his 2010 debut, All I Want Is You, Miguel flouted tradition by moving elegantly, sexily, both within and beyond his assigned genre. In back-to-back tracks, he slid from boom-bap soul to vulnerable a cappella to uptempo electro-funk. His confidence found composure on 2012’s Kaleidoscope Dream, which sounds as Technicolor and wondrous as the title suggests. Single “Adorn” merged timeless soul and modern production as seamlessly as it did deep love and physical longing, while songs like “P**** Is Mine” flipped expectations by casting Miguel as one of his partner’s many lovers, begging for validation. On 2015’s Wildheart, he dove deeper into psych rock, incorporating his own guitar and a Lenny Kravitz cameo into raw, grinding cuts that also supported Kurupt rapping and Miguel singing in Spanish. By 2017’s War & Leisure, he seemed to be flitting across genres just to prove he could: The sunny, pop-adjacent “Pineapple Skies” fit him just as snugly as the trippy, Travis Scott-assisted “Sky Walker.” That latter track seems to best capture the man as he coos out lyrical flexes both winkingly self-aware and genuinely braggy. Chameleon though he may be, Miguel is always Miguel—humorous, smart, and full of passion—no matter the setting. - Apple Music
