Thank you for all the suggestions for your chart flops of 2010, now we look at the next year, 2011. What songs do you remember from this time and why do you remember them fondly? These could be songs that failed to make the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, or even the Top 75, but they have to have been released as a single at some point during the year.

I will nominate something in a little while that I personally enjoyed in this year, but for now, it’s over to you. happy.gif

Ellie Goulding - 'Lights'

Stalled at #49 in the U.K. but did make it all the way to #2 in the U.S. ohmy.gif

In fairness to Rihanna MD was inexplicably not pushed in the UK.

Wasn't mad on any of his songs before but I really liked this from Matt Cardle which peaked at 185. Also a fan of the Mel C duet too!

Matt Cardle was done dirty by almost everyone. Starlight should have been huge.

A wonderful pop jazz number that reached No.65 here but was huge across Europe and at least provided Dutch singer Caro with a huge selling album here.

This is wonderful from the US duo, it peaked at No.46.

This should have been a hit for the X Factor duo and the great Alcazar! But did nothing. I see my upload of it on YouTube lives on, with 43k views ohmy.gif

I LOVED this, and related to it a lot as an album track. It was later issued as a single and peaked at...No.185

No.76 for Sweden's epic Eurovision 3rd placer Popular by Eric Saade. The winner slightly charted higher but I have little interest in sharing that oops.

Love this country song that got to No.74 but was bigger in the US.

No.64 for this classic must be some sort of crime.

I can't remember why this did so badly, it only got to No.54 and even had a video shown during Comic Relief. I guess the album already having sold millions didn't help.

Some Sophie Ellis-Bextor as well with her great duet with The Feeling on 'Leave Me Out Of It' (was bound to happen at some point being married to one of the members!)

That wasn't their lead single from that era though which I think made 145 or something. 'Set My World On Fire'. Kept getting pushed back so many times..

'Smile' was also a flop single for Avril Lavigne.

Britney Spears had two, 'I Wanna Go' and 'Criminal'.

Two great tracks here. Chili's peaked at 44 I think. Not sure if OneRep even charted.

2011 Eurovision winner peaked at 61. I didn't overly mind this but I know it got highly slated on here for being bland lol.

Looking back, these missing the top 40 is a bit wtf but I guess everyone owned the album.

Rich has already mentioned her, but Caro's album had many great tracks - this was also a minor hit at #84:

This one has picked up a lot in the streaming era, but #64 was its peak as a chart hit:

Keri Hilson - Pretty Girl Rock (#53)

Keri Hilson launched her 2nd era with this infectious lead single. I assumed it would be huge for her... it wasn't. It charted at #53 and spent just 2 weeks in the top 100. The bigger travesty from this era though is that the 2nd single was an absolute Summer Smash in the waiting....

Keri Hilson feat. Nelly - Lose Control (DNC)

...like... that had "SMASH" written all over it! It's a shame it didn't chart here at all! Deserved to be absolutely massive. The sound was perfect for the time too. Plenty of hits that were "similar". But this felt a bit more commercial to me so I was gutted it wasn't a huge hit.

---

Skylar Grey - Invisible (#63)

Coming off an incredible start of the year by featuring on 'I'm Coming Home' & 'I Need A Doctor', Skylar thought it was time to go on her own... this got airplay iirc? It bombed at charted at #63. Such a gorgeous song.

---

The Saturdays - My Heart Takes Over (#15)

#15... but 3 weeks in the top 100... this song did not deserve that! sad.gif It's absolutely STUNNING and by FAR their most underrated! I really thought this was going to be a huge Quarter 4 hit for them </3

---

Yasmin - On My Own (#39)

She deserved to be way bigger than her hits suggested. Such a gorgeous voice and I predicted big things for this.

---

Fefe Dobson - Stuttering (DNC)

Just deserves better in general, but this was an absolute smash waiting to happen with the right push!

'My Heart Takes Over' deserved better. Shame Yasmin never took off much either.

Kreayshawn - Gucci Gucci

I loved this! IIRC Reggie Yates interviewed Kreayshawn on the chart show the day 'Gucci Gucci' was released, and they talked as if it was sure to be top 40 next week. It landed at #77 instead.

Dev - In The Dark

One of the best from the brief saxophone craze of 2011. #37 in the UK but #11 in the US!

Willow - 21st Century Girl

'Whip My Hair' didn't give this enough momentum to chart any higher than #91.

Joe Jonas - See No More

I wasn't a fan but recall it was expected to chart higher than #53.

Flops from the first quarter of 2011;

The Wombats – Jump Into The Fog [Peaked at #35 in January 2011]
Their last Top 40 single was this low charting flop from early 2011, no other singles were able to perform any better afterwards. Not their most well known single but a decent one.

Eric Prydz – Niton (The Reason) [Peaked at #45 in February 2011]
Falling short of making it into the UK Top 40, partly due to a big influx of music from Glee Cast, this Eric Prydz single was one of his last to appear in the charts.

Lupe Fiasco – The Show Goes On [Peaked at #49 in February 2011]
An artist with a few minor hits in the late 00s, this single was the last the charts would see of him as he finished with a flop in 2011.

Alesha Dixon feat. Jay Sean – Every Little Part Of Me [Peaked at #78 in March 2011]
The former Mis-Teeq lady was not able to achieve any further hits in her career, she had this flop from 2011 with a guest feature by Jay Sean.

McFly – That’s The Truth [Peaked at #35 in March 2011]
McFly were once a chart force to be reckoned with, but with the likes of One Direction and The Wanted on the scene, there was less chance of hits in the future, and this stalled at #35.

Rebecca Black – Friday [Peaked at #60 in March 2011]
She could have been a one hit wonder, instead she goes down as a one flop wonder. This catchy pop song failed to impact the UK despite success elsewhere in the world.

Forgot Dev had that Mr Saxobeat inspired song.

The dubstep and D&B flops are great, there are probably even more of them in 2012.
