Madeon definitely deserved more success than what was had. 2 Top 40 singles and this limped in barely making the Top 75 (and it's as good as its predecessors)

Hello 2012, let’s see what flops you had to offer from the first quarter;

Yasmin feat. Shy FX & Ms. Dynamite – Light Up (The World) [Peaked at #50 in January 2012]
Yasmin was not particularly lucky with her singles, having acquired a few flops, and this one with the help of Shy FX and Ms. Dynamite could not help it any higher than #50 for a single week in the chart.

Skrillex & The Doors – Breakn' A Sweat [Peaked at #32 in January 2012]
This introduction for many to Skrillex was a shock and revolutionary as dubstep became a mainstream genre concept. The chart peak was still quite impressive, but I’d have liked a bit higher which the next single achieved.

Knife Party – Internet Friends [Peaked at #83 in January 2012]
Another example of an early introduction to dubstep. This one I discovered a bit later than it’s charting week, but nonetheless an absolute bop.

Florence + The Machine – No Light, No Light [Peaked at #50 in February 2012]
The second official single from the second album by Florence + The Machine was a flop. It paled in comparison to What The Water Gave Me (a promotional single) and Shake It Out.

Matt Cardle – Amazing [Peaked at #84 in February 2012]
The X Factor winner of season 7 was looking for another hit but it didn’t come with this single, in fact he would have to employ the vocals of a Spice Girl to get another hit!

Lissie – Go Your Own Way [Peaked at #54 in March 2012]
A nice Fleetwood Mac cover that failed to materialise into a Top 40 hit for this singer from America. It was in fact the second time she had missed the Top 40 after another attempt in 2010.

Taylor Swift – Eyes Open [Peaked at #70 in March 2012]
This wasn’t an official single, it was in fact intended for a soundtrack to The Hunger Games movie franchise along with another single titled Safe & Sound.

Not much indie / rock stuff made the Top 40 by 2012, and these were lucky enough to chart at all:

This snuck in at #100 for his chart debut:

#94 with the album release in 2012, peaking at #76 after headlining Glastonbury the following year:

Released the previous year, this charted at #58 after being performed at the Olympics closing ceremony, which also produced the only chart appearances for a couple of much older favourites of mine (Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here at #68; The Who - Baba O'Riley at #55):

Two of Paloma's singles from that year missed top 40 with this one peaking the highest of the two (the other being 'Just Be') at 50!

'30 Minute Love Affair' is my favourite Paloma song!

It'll forever baffle me how Radio 1 simply dumped her right after 'Picking Up The Pieces', when it felt like she was the biggest she'd ever been. This song deserved so much more cry.gif

Second quarter flops;

Rizzle Kicks – Traveller's Chant [Peaked at #44 in April 2012]
Not quite the same effect as previous Top 10 singles Down With The Trumpets, When I Was A Youngster and Mama Do The Hump, but a half decent single from the duo.

Lana Del Rey – Blue Jeans [Peaked at #32 in April 2012]
The first of two #32 peaking single from Lana in 2012, the other being Ride, but I thought at the time this one might have done better off the success of two Top 10 singles. 387 million views on YouTube at the time of this.

Mark Ronson & Katy B – Anywhere In The World [Peaked at #55 in May 2012]
Recorded as part of an advertisement campaign for the 2012 London Olympics, this song did not make it into the Top 40 and dropped out altogether after a single week.

Gavin Degraw – Soldier [Peaked at #59 in May 2012]
On the same week that his 2005 single I Don't Wanna Be re-peaked inside the UK Top 40 due to the airing of the final season of the teen drama One Tree Hill, this new single from 2012 was overlooked and reached #59.

Kelly Clarkson – Dark Side [Peaked at #40 in June 2012]
It was surely expected that the follow-up single to smash hit Stronger would have a better chart peak than this one did, but it flopped in the Summer of 2012 along with the next single from the same year too.

Amy MacDonald – Slow It Down [Peaked at #45 in June 2012]
The last charting single for the Scottish singer-songwriter was this one in 2012, it did come close to the Top 40 at the time, but it has to go down as a flop under the terms we have used thus far.

‘Dark Side’ can stay being a flop! Bleurgh! There were SO MANY better choices from that album to capitalise on ‘Stronger’ huge success!

I can sort of see why 'Dark Side' didn't do well, but I've really come to love that song in recent times!

Woodkid - 'Run Boy Run'

This is a huge favourite of mine that stalled at #44! The epic instrumental has experienced plenty of use in media over the years.

It was a BuzzJack Song Contest winner albeit before I started competing.
