Aitch
Famous Girl

1st single from forthcoming studio album
Released: 26th April 2024
Label: NQ Records

Video

Biography

Navigating UK rap stardom is a tricky thing, but Aitch has it down pat. He’s chameleonic like the pop stars he collabs with, gritty like the grime artists that inspired him. Born Harrison Armstrong in Manchester in 1999, Aitch grew up removed from the London scene, where grime blossomed during his formative years, but soaked up the music from afar. Then, as a teenager, he started rapping, building a following online with his snaking flows and dizzying rhyme schemes. Things took off in 2018 when he dropped his menacing debut single “Straight Rhymez,” and Aitch has since risen to the pantheon of UK hip-hop. In tracks like the 2019 remix of Ed Sheeran’s “Take Me Back To London,” you’ll hear his transition away from grime to sticky pop-rap, but his dexterous raps remind that he hasn’t lost touch with his roots. - Apple Music

Tems
Love Me JeJe

3rd single from Born in the Wild
Released: 25th April 2024
Label: RCA Records / Since 93'

The superstar reimagines Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic. - Apple Music

Video

Biography

Nigerian singer Tems crafts weighty songs that manage to float, with velvety vocals that unfurl through lyrics imbued with emotional depth. They have made her a leader in Nigeria’s alté music movement, which blends Afrobeats, alternative R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall. Born Temilade Openiyi in 1995 in Lagos, the former Apple Music Up Next artist knew she was destined to make music. At age 6, Tems was creating original songs; at 13, she began vocal training. “By the time I was 17, I knew that this was the only thing that I could possibly do in life,” she told Apple Music. In 2018, her first single, the revelatory “Mr Rebel,” was an immediate runaway hit. Her appearance on fellow Nigerian Wizkid’s beloved 2020 single “Essence” increased Tems’ visibility and brought more attention to her debut EP, For Broken Ears. Led by the undulating “Free Mind,” the project cemented Tems as a rising star not only throughout Africa but worldwide. In 2021, she released her follow-up, If Orange Was a Place, which was highlighted by the Brent Faiyaz-assisted “Found.” An emotive guest feature on Future’s 2022 single “Wait for You” has kept Tems in the spotlight—but she remains grounded by her experiences. “At every single point in my life, I’ve had to break out,” she said. “I’ve had to break boundaries completely. Being yourself, it takes more courage than people would imagine.” - Apple Music

Rooting for Sabrina. Can't believe her Asian breakthrough hit On My Way is already a 5-year old tune as well. What a tune to end a decade. wub.gif

Biography

Emerging artist cassö and his inaugural release “Prada” is set to propell the twenty-year-old producer to unprecedented heights. With a mere eight months of production under his belt, the track has marked a transformative milestone. Derived from D-Block Europe track “Ferrari Horses,” featuring the enchanting vocals of songstress RAYE, the producer’s trance-infused adaptation was conceived on his university laptop earlier this year. Enthralled by the captivating vocals, he envisioned a euphoric pluck and an assertive bassline that would escalate into an explosive drop, breathing new life into the track’s sonic landscape. - GRM Daily

Biography

Amy Winehouse was one of those once-in-a-generation artists who rerouted the direction of pop music and amassed a worldwide fanbase spanning grade-schoolers to grandmas. Born in 1983, the London-raised singer paid her dues as a session vocalist before releasing her debut album, Frank, in 2003. While Winehouse’s uncommonly gritty yet graceful voice made her a UK sensation (earning her a place on the Mercury Prize shortlist), Frank’s jazzy torch songs and chilled funk atmosphere only teased at the feisty character lurking beneath the surface of cocktail-lounge soundtracks like “F*ck Me Pumps.” However, with the help of producer Mark Ronson and Sharon Jones’ brassy backing band, The Dap-Kings, Winehouse’s outsized persona got the space to fully flourish on her Grammy-dominating 2006 sophomore release, Back to Black. Adopting the soulful sound and sassy spirit—not to mention beehive hairstyle—of ’60s girl groups, Winehouse hit upon an aesthetic that was faithfully retro enough to win over Motown-reared boomers, yet possessed a brash, profane attitude (and the tattoos to go with it) that endeared her to hip-hop heads and indie kids alike. Back to Black transformed Winehouse into the consummate anti-diva, exuding a raw, unfiltered authenticity that was at once cheekily risque (as heard in her definitive anti-sobriety anthem, “Rehab”) and emotionally shattering (the eternally devastating title track). Sadly, Back to Black was both her career apex and her swan song—she died of alcohol poisoning in 2011. But if Winehouse’s star burned all too briefly, it left a never-ending vapor trail across the mainstream, allowing artists as varied as Adele, Janelle Monáe, Sam Smith, and Lana Del Rey to pursue their own singular visions of retro-modernism. - Apple Music

Biography

Mark Ronson is a multi-hyphenate with a Midas touch: a producer, songwriter, and entertainer who, since the turn of the millennium, has changed the sound and shape of pop music as we know it—more than once. Born in London in 1975, Ronson grew up surrounded by music: His father managed bands, and his mother later married Foreigner’s Mick Jones. Ronson started off as a hip-hop DJ while studying at New York University, and his debut album, 2003’s Here Comes the Fuzz, first displayed his uncanny ability to bridge musical worlds. Over zig-zagging funk, disco, and reggae, he incorporated an unlikely array of guests—Ghostface Killah, Jack White, Sean Paul, and Rivers Cuomo—that anticipated the new century’s genre-agnostic approach to pop. Ronson beefed up his own music’s vintage polish and soulful depths on 2007’s Version, around the same time that he became equally celebrated for his production work. Along with records for Lily Allen and Christina Aguilera, Ronson co-produced Amy Winehouse’s acclaimed 2006 LP Back to Black, taking home three Grammys. In ensuing years, he’s manned the boards for Adele, Solange, Wiley, Lady Gaga, and Paul McCartney—a diverse group whose only common denominator is a determination to break boundaries and make history. Ronson is no stranger to the latter: His barnstorming 2014 party jam, “Uptown Funk (feat. Bruno Mars),” is notable not only for its chart-topping run but also the speed with which it became universally recognized as a timeless slice of pop perfection, the kind of song destined to amp up wedding receptions for decades to come. But that success hasn’t hamstrung him: Subsequent albums, like 2015’s Uptown Special and 2019’s Late Night Feelings, have found him masterminding ever more audacious guest lists while finding new ways to make evergreen styles sound entirely new. - Apple Music
