QUOTE(Johnkilometre @ Aug 20 2011, 12:32 PM) *
I've never really though of her as fame hungry, but I suppose you could look at it that way, I've always tended to see it more along the lines that she never really made that much from Steps/her solo career and took whatever work came her way to pay the bills. I guess that's not too far removed from being a fame whore anyway:lol:. As you probably guessed my love for her is mainly ironic, she's just so lovably rubbish.

She's one of a select few stars who would turn up to the opening of an envelope if cameras were rolling, I don't even know if it's about the money - it just seems that she craves fame laugh.gif It's a shame as when she was in the band she was the cool quirky one with braces and blue hair but as soon as they split and her solo career faded she seems to have appeared on every reality show running. Her appearance on 'Celeb Air' when she got dropped from the programme for stopping off and partying in Ibiza with her husband was particularly hilarious, trying and failing to cause any sort of actual controversy! I admit that I did buy Electric on single, but I had to chuckle when it missed the top ten by the narrowest of margins when she claimed that she'd quit her solo career if that happened! In fairness to her, she hasn't released anything since!

Oh dear. Although that picture was apparently from finding out that 'Get It On' was set to miss the top 20. The final episode focused on Electric missing the top ten!

The whole Totally Scott-Lee series seemed to focus around her inability to get solo singles into the top ten. I can only imagine her reaction back in 2003 when Too Far Gone emphatically debuted at...#11 laugh.gif Has 'getting that top ten' ever meant so much to anybody else? It's not like it's an impressive feat when the second week position of #37 or whatever is taken into account!

Get It On, the one week SMASH that never was. Just like ever other single she released sad.gif

It really says it all that she couldn't manage a top 10 hit during the nadir of UK single sales laugh.gif

Most of their songs were great and def worthy of 8's 9's and 10's, but they did have a few i wasnt crazy about, most of their covers bar Tragedy and Chain Reaction I didnt care for, i also didnt like the radio edit of DSOB, as they cut all my favorite music bits out of it, also I would have prefered Paradise Lost over You'll Be Sorry as a single, and Words Are Not Enough was not a good way to end their career...but definitely think It's The Way You Make Me Feel is their best, it was soo good and should have been #1, but i also loved LGAHOMH, One For Sorrow and Chain Reaction (Claire's power ad libs at the end wub.gif) a lot too.

5 Claire
4 Faye
3 Lisa
2 Lee
1 H

Loved Claire always will, her voice was amazing, honestly Faye and Lisa are tied as i really liked them both the same, mind you the Lisa I liked was Steps Lisa not Solo Lisa, in steps she was so bubbly and happy and had a great personality plus she got all the good solo songs, but once steps were over she became a laughing stock and an embarrassment cry.gif mostly cuz she was so desperate on getting a top 10 single, i guess she was so used to being top 5 with steps, only having one top 10 single that hit #6 and fell fast and then nothing else major following it up was pretty hard to swallow for her. I can't stand H, i thought he was obnoxious, especially during live performances with all the OOH OOH's he always did.

So many excellent songs! Yeah, they may not be musically technical and "credible", but they are brilliant sing-a-long pop tunes! I could have given 4 more 10s there. It's The Way You Make Me Feel is by far my favourite, such a shame it missed out on #1 because of a release mixup sad.gif . I think what made that song for me was the (amazing) period video with the huge continuity error in the shape of Lisa's braces laugh.gif

A very high quality set of songs, but it's a shame Words Are Not Enough had to spoil it all! What a truly dire final single. Fingers crossed they release another song this time round to make up for it!

Member Rate:

Claire was always my favourite, closely followed by Faye. Lisa could have been great, but that vocoder was not a flattering addition to her voice. Lee gave us Turn Around which was superb, but H didn't really offer anything great in terms of music or character, I found him a little OTT.

Really? ohmy.gif Before starting this I'd have predicted it to win this rate, I always thought that it was hugely loved! It was the Steps song that it was ok to like iirc, at least amongst my circle of friends at the time anyway laugh.gif That said, I wasn't too bothered that it didn't make #1, I do actually prefer Rui Da Silva's Touch Me! And the song behind it at #3, Fragma's Everytime You Need Me also outsold it in the end and I wish that had been Fragma's second #1.

On a separate note, Faye is iconic, if only for the 1998 braides! She pulled it off with more style and class than Alda and if she brought them back especially for the reunion shows (if they happen) then I'll buy 10 tickets!

It must just have been my own hate for it tainting my memory. I really do not get why people could rate it better than the likes of Tragedy, Better Best Forgotten, One For Sorrow, heck half of what they did. I find the melody really rather rubbish and the production is the weakest on any track on Buzz.

The melody's incredibly catchy I'd say, the production's less Europop than the majority of their singles so perhaps it stood out. Claire's operatic ad-libs towards the end were impressive too and slightly out of the ordinary for a pop single, no wonder she excelled as a contestant on Popstar to Operstar!

The melody sounds like they spent an age trying to craft the perfect pop melody and added a little bit of everything and ended up creating something rather unappealing. I'm definitely a fan of the ad libs though, you can't beat a good old WAIL added into a song.

My favourite thing about ITWYMMF (and - though I'm in the minority of people who like it - Words Are Not Enough) is that they all got a chance at singing. Some songs got a bit repetitive having just Claire on them, even though she obviously had the best voice.

Perhaps controversially, I think I prefer Faye's voice. She had a slightly smaller range than Claire but was also capable of being subtle and not sledge hammering any and every note she came in contact with. If You Believe being the prime example, Claire would have ruined it, wheras Faye made it into one of their best moments.
