Biography

Jax Jones
Jax Jones is a London-based DJ and producer whose sunny, uplifting house tracks incorporate a wide range of musical influences. Born Timucin Fabian Kwong Wah Aluo in 1987, he grew up listening to rap, gospel, Afro-beat, and numerous other genres, and began making beats as a teenager, initially as a hip-hop producer. He got into house music after meeting Duke Dumont, and the two collaborated on the song "I Got U," which became an immediate hit when it was released in early 2014, topping the U.K. singles chart. Jones released his debut single, "Yeah Yeah Yeah," in 2015, and co-wrote Dumont's summer hit "Ocean Drive." In 2016, Jones released the single "House Work," featuring British vocalist MNEK and Chicago house veteran Mike Dunn. Featuring vocals from U.K. singer RAYE, Jones' next single, "You Don't Know Me," became his biggest solo hit yet, reaching the Top Ten on numerous charts around the world. He followed up in 2017 with the Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don-assisted "Instruction." - iTunes

Years & Years
Showcasing the melismatic vocals of Olly Alexander, London's Years & Years artfully combine '80s-style ambient synth pop with funky electronic beats. Their evocative, dancey, cross-pollinated sound drew accolades that included winning the BBC's prestigious Sound of 2015 poll. That same year, they hit number one in the U.K. with their debut album, Communion.

Years & Years initially came together in 2010 in London when multi-instrumentalist/producers Michael Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen met online while looking to start a band. They eventually added vocalist and actor Alexander after hearing him singing at a friend's house while taking a shower. The trio's keyboard- and electronics-based sound first gained exposure when the single "Traps" was released on Kitsuné Music in 2013. The group's second EP, Real, came out in February 2014, and with some impressive live dates under their belts, Years & Years announced they had signed a deal with Polydor.

Their first major-label single, Take Shelter, appeared in August 2014, followed by a collaboration with the Magician on Sunlight a month later and the release of Desire in November. In 2015, on the heels of winning the prestigious BBC Sound Of award, Years & Years released their debut full-length album, Communion. The well-received album debuted at number one in the U.K. and peaked in the Top 50 of the U.S. Billboard 200. The following year, they were nominated for four BRIT Awards and headlined their own tour, which included a sold-out show at London's Wembley Arena. Also that year, they contributed the single "Meteorite" to the Bridget Jones' Baby soundtrack.

In 2018, they returned with their sophomore full-length, Palo Santo, which featured production by Kid Harpoon, Greg Kurstin, GRADES, and others. Included on the album were the singles "Sanctify" and "If You're Over Me." The album peaked at number three in the U.K. and hit the top of Billboard's U.S. Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

shame Jax had to miss out on a top 100 especially with some of what is still to come but yay at it getting a mention here anyway! Play's not one of my absolute faves of his but still a bop.

Biography

Freya Ridings is a London-based singer, songwriter, and pianist with a notably rich, soulful vocal tone. After opening shows in the U.K. for Gavin James earlier in the year, she made her headlining debut in May 2017. Concentrating on plaintive ballads, the show doubled as her recording debut; Live at St. Pancras Old Church was released by Good Soldier Records that September. It included an acoustic version of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs song "Maps." In 2018 she issued the sumptuous, slow-burn single "Ultraviolet" and collaborated with MJ Cole on the moody "Waking Up." That same year she issued a second live album, Live at the Omeara. Ridings' first studio EP, You Mean the World to Me, was released in early 2019. - iTunes

'Lost Without You' was always going to be a high bar to follow-up but 'Castles' is a pretty solid pop song!

Castles was a rather good effort from her, I still much prefer Lost Without You but was good to see her do a midtempo after 2 ballads.

Biography

A London-based grime MC of Ghanaian heritage, Stormzy made a swift rise in the early 2010s to become one of the U.K.'s most critically-acclaimed artists. Climbing out of the underground grime scene, he made his breakthrough in 2017 with his platinum-certified, chart-topping debut, Gang Signs & Prayer. Within half a decade of the release of his debut EP, he was a Glastonbury festival headliner. Born Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. in the south London town of Croyden, he launched his career clashing at youth clubs around his hometown. His performances evolved from grime-only music that showed a love of artists like Skepta to more rap-oriented material that reflected Stormzy's growing appreciation for artists like Drake. Late in 2013 he began uploading his "Wicked Skengman" series of freestyles over classic grime beats; in 2014, he made his official debut with the EP Dreamers Disease. A year later he released the single "Know Me From" along with "WickedSkengMan 4," the first track in his "WickedSkengMan" freestyle series and a Top 20 hit in the U.K. That December, Stormzy performed the single's B-side, "Shut Up," at a match between heavyweight boxers Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. The song jumped into the Top 40 following the broadcast, and the rapper launched a campaign to have the song top the charts during Christmas. This boosted the track to the number eight position, and the number one position on the R&B singles chart. Before returning to the studio to record his first LP, he released non-album single "Scary" in the spring of 2016. Stormzy returned in 2017 with his official full-length debut Gang Signs & Prayer (#Merky Records), which featured the platinum single "Big for Your Boots," "Cigarettes & Cush" with Kehlani, and "Blinded by Your Grace, Pt. 2" with MNEK. The critically-lauded set debuted atop the U.K. albums chart and was soon certified platinum. In 2018, the album took home the prize for British Album of the Year and Stormzy was crowned British Male Solo Artist of the Year at the annual Brit Awards.

Riding the wave of acclaim, he was announced as one of the headliners at 2019's Glastonbury Festival. That year, he also scored his first number one single in the U.K. with "Vossi Bop."
