Here's a fresh poll, a continuation of this previous thread: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=269211 - which I've temporarily locked, so that discussion doesn't spill over multiple threads. When the week is over, I'll merge the threads & post the final results of both polls.
Will 'The Tortured Poets Department' sell over 200,000 copies in its first week in the UK? Could it provide Taylor with the highest first week sales of her career? Vote in the above poll and let us know what you've chosen as your answer! 'Midnights' sold over 200k in week 1 - 204,501 copies. '1989 (Taylor's Version)' came quite close with 184,965. ---------------- This thread is intended to predict its UK chart performance in week 1. If you're interested to discuss more about the album otherwise, please visit the Taylor Swift forum on BuzzJack! http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/Taylor-Swift-f177.html |

It's hard to predict, but for no particular reason my gut feeling at the moment is... 230,000 - 239,999.

Of course it will, the way she is milking her fans realeasing a second version with more songs a few hours later.

Hmm. She's at peak exposure and popularity breeds popularity, but bubbles always burst. The material is not good, the name is pretentious, and she's released album after album non-stop. So I'm gonna say thisis the beginning of the decline, but it will do just under whatever Adele's 30 Spells Flirty did. The next one will do worse.

Who thinks it's doing more than 300k?
Adele 'only' did 262k. (that's to say 300k is unattainable as a weekly album sale these days, not to suggest Adele did low numbers before someone jumps in with nonsense. ) |

Of course it will, the way she is milking her fans realeasing a second version with more songs a few hours later. In a way I could see the second version being kind of negligible regarding the album's UK sales. Crucially there's no physical of this version. Regarding streaming... maybe it's too early to say, but I would assume that most of its streaming units will be drawn from tracks from the original album, by virtue of being the first 16 tracks out of the 31. Unless some of the 'Anthology' songs (tracks 17-31) manage to really catch on. So perhaps it's really only download sales which will benefit from the second version... but download sales pale in comparison to physicals (downloads of Midnights only contributed 3.47% of its overall first week sales). In the US though it'll undoubtedly provide a huge boost to sales because their streaming sales take every track into account! |

Yeah…. I am not getting carried away here. My estimate is more between the 180-200k mark, which is still phenomenal. Always nice to see high album sales but I don’t feel there is that much demand to push to those lengths. A lot of the album is quite samey and these aren’t all 2 minute tracks that you can listen to multiple times in quick succession.

In the US though it'll undoubtedly provide a huge boost to sales because their streaming sales take every track into account! I don't really see how the extra songs will do anything but hurt its numbers in the UK to be honest. Swifties streaming the whole 31 tracks on repeat will now basically have their contribution to the album's OCC streaming numbers halved compared to if it had just stayed as a 16 track album which is the optimum for the UK's album streaming rules. I can't see that being offset by people being crazy enough to download the album twice. (I guess it might help streaming numbers hold up better in the long run if some of the songs from the second half prove to be more popular than ones from the first half, but that's a different conversation than the first week numbers) Have said 220-230k in the poll as a gut stab in the dark but who knows x |

Not sure but I won’t be buying it. She is completely overrated and all the swearing in her songs just puts me off.

This is the first album I’m not immediately listening to, I will listen when I can. She’s releasing too much in a very short time. I need a break.

I put over 300k when I voted yesterday, I thought it’s maybe a big shout but after the streaming numbers from ONE DAY who knows

She's not going to make the difference to get as high as 300k just with streaming improvements, she'd need to have a lot more pure sales than 'Midnights' (which is possible ofc!)
Maybe Ed's one week streaming sales record might finally be in danger though |
