Umi's Chart Highlights
  • The Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack rises to #1 this week, with a sales increase of 83% as it jumps from #3. It sells 109,000 copies this week in comparison to 60,000 last week.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy hitting #1 makes 2014 the first year since 2009 to have multiple #1 soundtrack albums (the other being Frozen, naturally). 2009 had #1 soundtracks from Hannah Montana: The Movie, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Michael Jackson's This Is It.
  • Now 51 enters at #2 with 94,000 copies sold, which gives the Now series its 57th top 10 album (51 Now albums, 6 spin-offs).
  • The Somebody To You EP entering at #10 for The Vamps becomes the 5th EP to make the top 10 this year. In comparison, this time last year not a single EP had made the top 10.
  • Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Aug. 10) totaled 4.27 million units, down 1 percent compared with the sum last week (4.33 million) and down 9 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (4.7 million).
  • Year-to-date album sales stand at 146.4 million, down 14 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (171 million).

I think I said in the HDD thread that top 10 for the Vamps with an EP is amazing, and it bodes well for their album, so congrats to them. Obviously won't be as big as 5SOS but that's a harsh thing to expect them to live up to.

Really nice to see Ultraviolence climb back up, though I can't imagine why it has. Price reduction?

It sold 2,000 more this week. A price reduction would have had more of an effect.

It looks like Lana will at least go Gold, which is something!

I wish I paid a bit more attention to US sales levels than I tend to - I wonder how often the #10 is under 20k.
