Officially starts on 11th May with 2 episodes available from midnight on iPlayer and then airing on BBC One just before Eurovision.
Each week we will be able to watch the episodes on iPlayer before live broadcast |

New trailer also dropped today (albeit just a 15 second one with some new clips). Excited for it to finally start, love that we're getting two episodes in the first week too
 But as some others have pointed out, it seems a bit odd to release the first two (and indeed the whole series) on iPlayer early, meaning those who watch the first two on iPlayer will have to wait two weeks for episode 3

TVZone have clarified episodes 1 and 2 will both air on BBC1 the same night too, so there won't be a 2 week gap for the iPlayer viewers!
I think it's an inevitable move, and I'll adapt to it in time without issue. Will probably watch on iPlayer at the earliest chance (either at the midnight drop, or first thing Saturday morning), and then again when aired live! |

Actually shocked it airing before Eurovision but I suppose it could be a good thing. I reckon it'll be right before it as the lead into the show perhaps. I'm surprised the episodes are going on iPlayer at midnight before the episodes air on TV though.

Yasss. Stephen moffat had a tendency to write amazing stories but he alsontended to be fair too cryptic and make stories convoluted and hard to follow. I am excited though and hopefully he becomes a regular writer.

 Doctor Who magazine has seen people realise belatedly Capaldi was fab, and voted best episode ever was Heaven Sent. Quite frankly, I agree, rewatched it and it's perfect bar a minor plot hole around billions of skulls building up around the Tower Building. Let's just say there is an active bone-eating wildlife in the sea and forgive that. I love storylines that make you think and are logical. Plothole-filled nonsense just annoys me as it's a sign of bad script editing. One can get around plotholes with a bit of work (see my spur-of-the-moment explanation above) and a reference in the script, make a joke out of it if need be. A Moffat script can only be a good thing.

I too recently rewatched every Nu Who episode (except Love & Monsters and Fear Her) and Capaldi was excellent on the whole. A bit of a dip in quality of the show for his final season but he remained brilliant. I liked him at the time but he's elevated up to one of my favourite Doctors now.
It also struck me how badly some of the Tennant and Eccleston episodes have fared in comparison to the Smith/Capaldi era. I found it harder to judge Whitaker as much of it was so recent but a handful of episodes aside (Rosa, Punjab, Spyfall, Deodata) it was all pretty forgettable and clumsy. I still quite liked her but the scripts never gave her any real substance and she lingers near the lower end of my fav Doctors list. But yes, Moffat writing for the show again has to be a good thing |

I agree re: Smith/Capaldi eras aging better than Eccleston/Tennant. Until my most recent rewatch I would’ve sworn down that #10 was my favourite Doctor.
Tennant is still amazing and will probably be the eternal most iconic “younger” Doctor, Capaldi just encapsulates the essence of a time lord who is hundreds/thousands of years old |

I agree that Capaldi's era has aged like a fine wine and is best enjoyed as a full package from start to end, because the arc of his Doctor was expertly told. The spikiness of series 8 makes so much more sense knowing where the character progresses to by the end of series 10, which is where I find 12 most enjoyable as part of a team with Bill and Nardole. I enjoyed his dynamic with Clara too, albeit more in series 8 than series 9. Heaven Sent and World Enough and Time are two of the best episodes of modern Who! (I mean, he has a couple of stinkers too, particularly looking at you Sleep No More and In the Forest of the Night, but no Doctor has a flawless era, except perhaps Eccleston x)

I would suggest that Heaven Sent is comfortably in the argument for the best episode/story of Doctor Who ever. It's a smartly crafted, intelligent and thoughtful spisode with an outstanding performance from easily the best actor to play the character.
It's no surprise that it regularly comes at or near the top in polls. |
