Yup, that's right. Another year is almost up, and true to tradition, my EOY will be starting a little bit earlier like usual. Why? Cause I've got a bloomin' long countdown and if I started in January, I wouldn't be done til April and nobody would care by then As always, my final EOY is decided through personal opinion as opposed to chart points, although I keep a points EOY nonetheless to aid the process (even if I disagree with it half the time). I don't know the full order yet as I'm still in the process of sorting the songs, although my albums and EPs are ready to go! (note for myself: this countdown covers up until week 310 in my weekly chart) It's been a crazy year for my music taste, with very little proving to have longevity in my weekly chart. There's been a whopping 39 #1s, compared to 36 in last year's eligibility period, and only eight of them spent longer than a week at the top. Amongst those #1s are four from The Vamps, who broke the record for most #1s overall, raising their total to 13, ahead of One Direction's 11. There's also multiple #1s for Cheat Codes, Louis Tomlinson, Martin Garrix, FO&O and Rita Ora, plus a special two-week #1 from Ariana Grande's One Last Time, after the superb One Love Manchester concert (which, of course, I wish happened in better circumstances). That's not even mentioning the vast array of massive #2 hits this year. Anne-Marie, Manel Navarro and Katy Perry among others scored bigger hits than the songs that respectively blocked them from #1, but will that show in my EOY? Time will tell! A few little bits of info: - Only one song in my top 250 failed to make my weekly top 40. - The most tracks by a single artist is FIVE! - Once again, every top 10 hit from my weekly chart from the past year features in my top 250 somewhere. First, we'll be taking a look at my top 5 EPs and my top 30 albums. A quick peek at my points charts will follow, and then we'll dive into the beast that is my top 250 singles (with my top 10 artists scattered amongst them). In the meantime, take a look at my #1s from the past year, and remind yourself of last year's countdown in post 2. 161 03/12/2016 - Robin Schulz, David Guetta & Cheat Codes - Shed a Light (2 weeks) 162 17/12/2016 - Louis Tomlinson & Steve Aoki - Just Hold On (1 week) 163 24/12/2016 - Nemo Schiffman - I Don't Mind (1 week) 164 31/12/2016 - Kris Kross Amsterdam & Conor Maynard feat. I'm very excited for your Year-End list.
In fact, I might start doing my year-end list next week, but I'm thinking about it. Either way, can't wait for your best of the best! |

39 #1s in a year *_* literally exactly three times more #1s than I've had in the same time period!
Hoping to see Clean Zara and Avicii Ora nice and high and maybe an appearance for the latter in your EP chart? |

EPs
1 Bebe Rexha - All Your Fault: Pt. 1 | 1-2-2-3-4-4-3-4-6-8-9-12-4-3-5-9-10-10-12-12-13-9-9-9-11-15-X (26 weeks) 2 Manel Navarro - Do It for Your Lover | 1-2-5-6-8-9-15-X-7-12-2-4-6-10-12-14-15-X (16 non-consecutive weeks) 3 New Hope Club - Welcome to the Club | 4-3-5-7-11-13-13-15-X (8 weeks) 4 Julia Michaels - Nervous System | 4-9-13-14-X (4 weeks) 5 Tom Odell - Spending All My Christmas With You | 3-1-1-11-X (4 weeks) So as I mentioned in the first post, '2017' technically means December 2016 to November 2017, and this is evidenced by #5 in my EP chart. Tom Odell released Spending All My Christmas With You for the festive period last year, containing the title track, an original recorded in the Live Lounge, as well as John Lewis advert track Real Love and current single Silhouette, plus a couple of festive classics. It topped my chart over the Christmas period, before breaking the record for biggest drop from #1, falling 10 places to #11 the week after Christmas (naturally). One of this year's most exciting newcomers, Julia Michaels' EP was a great listen, even if I've not returned to it so much. New Hope Club also released their debut EP this year, following a couple of stints supporting both The Vamps and The Tide on tour, and it's a solid listen with plenty of promise (even if they seem unlikely to ever take off big time). Putting up a good showing although not quite good enough, Manel Navarro's EP features only three different songs, with remixes of its title track taking up the final four tracklist spots. Do It for Your Lover supports the title track, Spain's Eurovision entry (which you'll hear a lot more about later in the countdown), and features previous single Candle and a new track: a demo called If I Go. It's a great little listen and the Do It for Your Lover remixes are pretty decent too! Finally, the #1. It was a clear win for Bebe Rexha, as the first half of her All Your Fault double EP soars to the top spot. Her second EP overall, All Your Fault: Pt. 1 only got a listen from me out of curiosity, after quite liking I Got You. I didn't, however, expect to enjoy it so much. Bebe's vocals are fantastic throughout, and the production on tracks like Atmosphere and Small Doses is sublime. The highlight is F.F.F., a collaboration with G-Eazy which hits all the right spots. Unfortunately, Pt. 2 didn't quite live up to this and hasn't made my top 5 EPs, but I have faith that Bebe's first full-length album, if we ever get it, will be better. |

Hiya Joseph !! Not listened to a single one of those, oopsies
I'd probably like a few of them though Bebe's has the brilliant "I Got You" on it and Julia's has "Issues" on it which is just as fab, I was gonna listen to the latter but "Uh Huh" just completely killed all hype I had for it at all I'll probably be a bit better at commenting on the albums countdown |

Albums
21 Michael Schulte - Hold the Rhythm | 3-5-7-12-X (4 weeks) 22 Sofia Reyes - Louder! | 4-5-5-6-7-8-11-15-X (8 weeks) 23 Tove Lo - BLUE LIPS (lady wood phase II) | 3-… (1+ weeks) 24 The Chainsmokers - Memories… Do Not Open | 2-3-6-13-14-X (5 weeks) 25 Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel | 5-7-9-12-15-X (5 weeks) 26 Isaiah - Isaiah | 5-10-15-X (3 weeks) 27 Jake Bugg - Hearts That Strain | 5-7-14-X (3 weeks) 28 Rag'n'Bone Man - Human | 2-4-8-10-11-14-X (6 weeks) 29 Betty Who - The Valley | 6-9-11-12-14-X (5 weeks) 30 Nathan Sykes - Unfinished Business | 6-11-13-X (3 weeks) Heading into my top 30 albums, we're first greeted with a couple of albums that didn't make my top 5. Nathan Sykes' debut effort was a perfectly listenable album but whilst enjoyable, it wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped. Betty Who's album on the other hand wasn't one I expected to like so much but it was pretty solid, if nowhere near as good as her Troye Sivan collaboration HEAVEN! Rag'n'Bone Man had a fantastic breakthrough hit in Human and an even better follow up with Skin, so I was intrigued by his album, particularly after seeing him live last year as Tom Odell's support act. The album wasn't quite as diverse as I'd hoped, blending into one for the most part (and being way too long in its deluxe form), but it was a pleasant listen. Jake Bugg's album was pretty similar, although much shorter in length. Sadly he's yet to top his first two albums with either of the follow-ups! Another one I enjoyed but haven't really revisited is X Factor Australia winner and Eurovision contestant Isaiah's debut album. It's mostly full of his X Factor covers, so while a relatively good listen due to the strength of his voice, it's not absolutely essential. She made a huge impression on my chart with SUCKER, but Charli XCX'x mixtape Number 1 Angel didn't make quite the same impact. It's good but PC music isn't really my thing and it's heavily inspired this mixtape. I'm much more excited for her third studio album...if it ever arrives The Chainsmokers' album on the other hand was one I enjoyed more than I thought. It wasn't as samey as expected and whilst it's far from perfect, there's plenty to enjoy, much like Tove Lo's BLUE LIPS album. The slightly pretentious visuals and the lead single's title Disco Tits don't get in the way of a good album, even if she's yet to top her debut album Queen of the Clouds. Finally, we reach the end of the section with Mexican star Sofia Reyes' debut album, packed full of Spanglish bops including my 2014 BJSC entry Muévelo (it was robbed of a place in the final ). The album's a great listen with plenty to enjoy, and achieved more success than I expected in my chart! I also sent Michael Schulte to BJSC, back in 2013, and his third album Hold the Rhythm came out this year. Whilst I found his second album quite dull and a huge step down from his fantastic debut Wide Awake, this is a big improvement, thanks in part to the great title track! |

Blue Lips was pretty interesting during my first listen, some of it was a bit left field but that's to be expected with Tove Lo.
The big highlight is definitely The Chainsmokers very solid album if a bit one-dimensional in parts. |

Not really listened to any of those albums but Isaiah's latest two singles were fab so I should probably check that out!

I'm an on/off Lana fan - I adored Born To Die but I've cared for very little since then. However, with plenty of nagging from Joe, I checked out Lust For Life and was pretty impressed at how good it was. It was more than "Lana's depressing lamfooo" and the songs stood out from each other, unlike Ultraviolence which felt like one long song. It's one of three albums in the top 20 not to have made #1, and we meet another just above Lana. Niall Horan's debut album got off to a good start, and although it's failed to match the success of Harry's debut, it's performed far better than Zayn, whose album never made my album chart. At #17, the highest non-#1 album features, courtesy of P!nk. Beautiful Trauma is her third charting album for me, following The Truth About Love (a #1) and a late entry for her Greatest Hits...So Far!!! album (#3). Beautiful Trauma stalled at #2 behind The Tide's Young Love, but nonetheless has held up rather well since. Elsewhere in this section, we have a bunch of #1 albums, the lowest of which features at #18. Lewis Watson made a huge impact for me in 2014 with his debut album The Morning, which soared to #1 and created two top 10 singles in my chart. I met him too, and he was really lovely. Second album midnight comes three years later, and my music taste has changed rapidly in that time. Whilst I enjoyed midnight a lot, it's not had the same replayability factor for me unfortunately. The next lowest #1 comes from Fifth Harmony, who similarly have underperformed from their last album. 7/27 was a big #1 album in my chart last year, making my EOY top 10, but the loss of Camila has impacted them negatively and they have the shortest running #1 album of the year (not counting those still charting). Katy Perry's Witness was eagerly anticipated by me, as she always brings the jams and the singles were of a high quality. Sadly, it seems she released the best songs straight away, as Witness is quite easily her worst album (not counting Katy Hudson obv). The signature hooks and huge choruses are gone, and ultimately it all feels a little style over substance, which is jarring from someone like Katy. Bring the bops back next time please On the other hand, Lorde's sophomore album Melodrama far surpassed any expectations I had. Pure Heroine was a good album, but missed my chart's top 10. Melodrama on the other hand soared to a comfortable #1, with highlights including Liability, Homemade Dynamite, Sober and of course Green Light. I've been waiting for The Tide's debut album for a while now and was unsure if one was ever coming, as none of their singles made any impact and radio didn't show any interest in supporting them. However, the album Young Love arrived in October, and it was a pretty good listen. Unfortunately, it seemed to lack The Tide's identity from their live performances in favour of shoehorned dance breakdowns, but if I ignore that, the songs are pretty good on their own. I think it'd be even better if they were able to put their own mark on the songs though, much like they did on the album's title track as well as Click My Fingers and Naked. Another solid debut album from 2017 was Zak Abel, whose album Only When We're Naked also seemed like it'd never be released. The release date got pushed back a ridiculous amount of times, but finally it got released in October, and it made #1 in my chart quite easily. Finally, just missing the top 10 is Paloma Faith, the final #1 before the cut-off point. The Architect is her third #1 in my album chart, out of four possible albums, so it's safe to say she has a strong hit record. Perhaps with more time, it could've been a comfortable top 10 EOY, but it's hard to justify when there are 10 strong albums still to come! |

Joseph !!
Yay at you coming back around to Lana this era. I'm in the minority that has my least favourite album of hers being Born to Die but Lust For Life is easily some of her best work to date so it was glad to see so many people love her music this era. The highlights of mine being "Cherry", "Summer Bummer" and "Lust for Life" itself No Ultraviolence shade tho pls (ha second best album !!!11 *.*) At least Witness made it higher here than on my EOY (#flopkatymods) Couldn't agree with more that the bops just seemed to dry up this era and there was barely anything worth listening to outside of the singles. It's an OK album but her other albums have been jam packed with pop bangers and this was so disappointing in comparison Loving this so far, looking forward to the albums top 10 !!! |
