How many #1s do you get per year, does your #1 change often or do you keep a song at #1 for weeks on end.

2010: 27
2011: 16
2012: 29
2013: 19
2014: 18
2015: 14
2016: 12

I'd say my #1 turnover is in the middle of the two extremes then, the average stay at #1 is 2-3 weeks but I do sometimes get longer runners

Mine is similar to yours Thermo, I'd say the average is 2-3 weeks but I regularly have 4-weekers. It isn't as ridiculously fast moving as the UK chart which completely devalues the point of a #1 single.

The yearly turnover from 2006 is as follows (with longest running number one single total weeks in square brackets):

2006: 24 [05]
2007: 19 [08]
2008: 22 [05]
2009: 20 [05]
2010: 20 [07]
2011: 21 [05]
2012: 22 [06]
2013: 20 [06]
2014: 18* [04] (to 14 Sep)

2011: 2 (but I started in the 2nd last week lol)
2012: 26
2013: 27
2014: 25 to September 13th

So a MUCH faster turnover this year, with only one song spending more than 2 weeks at the top (Ariana & Iggy with Problem, which spent 4 weeks at #1).

2014 looks like it may have the biggest turnover for me since 2005 - when I had 26, but 2005 was an AMAZING year for music, and 2014 just isn't. sad.gif

Mine usually averages 20-23, the lowest was 16 in 2002 when there were really long runners from DJ Sammy and Flip & Fill and 2012, thanks to Euphoria's 17 week stint! The most was 2000 which had 30.

Last year my longest running #1 was three 4 weekers from Michael Woods, DJ Kent and Avicii. But this year I've already had an 8 weeker in Sheppard and a 6 weeker in Sanna Nielsen, depends how obsessed I get with songs and what sort of competition is around at the time I guess.

2012: 31
2013: 27
2014: 19 (so far)

It's been getting slower - I know when I started my chart in earnest I had periods where I'd change the #1 every week and I sometimes still get months like that, but if there is a good enough song to hold my attention for a few weeks it'll almost definitely get 3 weeks at least.

2014's turnover for me will probably beat 2011 and maybe last years' depending on if any really good songs get released soon. I don't want another year of 25+ #1s though I just like it when a #1 stays there for more than a week.

2011 was so low for me because I had two massively long runners (S&M, 7 weeks, and Party Rock Anthem, 8 weeks) plus the first 5 weeks of the year was a continuation of What's My Name's 7 week run which I counted as a 2010 #1 and not a 2011 one. And if that wasn't enough 2011 was also the year of Loca People and Levels which spent 5 weeks at #1 each.

I had 32 #1 songs last year. So far in 2014 I've had 17 #1 songs, so there will probably less this year than last. I think I've got better this year of managing my chart this year - 2013 saw some songs debut at #1 and disappear quite quickly, whereas recently they've been climbing to the top spot.

I agree very much with Doctor Blind that I prefer #1s to stay on top for multiple weeks for the same reason he gave. If a #1 is only there for one week then it has to deserve it.

I've had 16 this year
Let it go of course spending a million weeks and ghost/west coast/ shake it off long runs at the top also helped. Otherwise I think everything has been a one week number one apart from home

Only had 19 in the whole of 2013, due to having 4 long running #1s (6 weeks for 'Get Lucky', 7 for 'Mirrors' and 'Lost & Not Found' and 11 for 'Royals'). 2014 so far has had 23 with the longest runner ('Magic') being only 4 weeks.

I could go back further than that but I don't have simple spreadsheets to look in so ceebz. If I recall correctly my earlier charts were much more like 'new #1 every week' than lots of long runners.

Seems to be fairly similar each year in the low to mid-20s. 2014 looks set to continue the trend - this time last year there were only another 3 #1s to add to the tally, but in 2012 there were 7 #1s. So who knows?

Looking down through my charts - overwhelmingly the most common is two weeks....

1 week: 175
2 weeks: 340
3 weeks: 166
4 weeks: 68
5 weeks: 37
6 weeks: 15
7 weeks: 10
8 weeks: 2
9 weeks: 3
10 weeks: 0
11 weeks: 1

That gives an average of 2.5 weeks at No.1

Least No.1s: 16 in 1981 and 1982
Most No.1s: 26 in 2003
