As we are at the end of the decade, I will be skipping my usual EOY for 2019 (not sure I'd be able to do one truth be told, probably be a similar format to last year) and doing a mega countdown of my favourite songs of the decade, to truly show and display my appreciation for the wonderful music I have discovered this decade and even though I've fallen out of love a bit with most mainstream music (blame the charts x), I still greatly enjoy it and want to relive some of the best memories here.

And yes, I'm going up to top 250 here. Now I'm aware this is a challenge and I'm not gonna be one of those people that starts a huge countdown with masses of detail put into the early stages and then burn myself out (naming no names whistle.gif), I'm determined to actually finish this one so I'll be whizzing through the early stages and putting emphasis on the later stages, it may take a few months (it may be a bit much even with my two weeks off) but it'll get done.

I'm just keeping music here, I'd love to talk about films and TV shows too but I don't think they'll be of much interest here so I may stick to their respective forums, a few prerequisites:

i) all songs must be from the 2010s ofc., so I am avoiding retro discoveries through BJSC (which you will see quite a bit of along with the other song contests, they've contributed a lot to my continued engagement with music).
ii) this does give 2019 an unfair handicap as I definitely need time with some songs to sink in, so I will, before I start, list songs that would've likely made my list or an EOY of 2019 had I given them more time.
iii) These don't necessarily correspond with my individual lists for the years, in truth I haven't looked at them when compiling this. I prefer to start with a clean slate as I often compile those specifically at the end of the year and thoughts can easily change over time.

That's enough writing I think, starting soon with a list that could resemble my 2019 EOY.

Totally not aimed at anyone in this forum ofc. kink.gif

So before we start, here are the 40 or so tracks that I would probably be charting quite highly in a 2019 EOY that nonetheless can't quite measure up to be in my actual end of decade list. I discovered most of them through Apple Music which has been good for me generally keeping up to date with music, and I'd recommend that you look up any of these tracks you don't know as they are all top tunes, if sometimes under the radar, I try not to repeat artists in Buzzjack song contests but it was hard with Varien, srsly two incredible tracks. Lack of chart hits here as the charts have generally still been shit and the arrival of Lewis Capaldi has not helped things, but I owe a special debt to Dance Monkey and Old Town Road for actually keeping me vaguely interested LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE CHART SAVIOURS 2K19 *.*

I will link the songs I feel most may not have heard from each section, for your convenience should you choose to take up my recommendation x

221. Sigala – Easy Love (2015)
222. Chad Valley feat. Glasser – Fall 4 U (2012)
223. Efisio Cross – Can I Keep You (2019)
224. Pure Bathing Culture – Dream the Dare (2013)
225. Anathema – Untouchable (2018)
226. Mumford & Sons – The Cave (2010)
227. Muse – Panic Station (2013)
228. Tiasu - Plummet (2015)
229. Alev Lenz – Fall Into Me (2017)
230. Woodkid feat. Jennifer Connelly – On Then & Now (2019)
231. Sir Felix – Hope (2019)
232. The Midnight feat. Nikki Flores – Light Years (2017)
233. Birdy – Keeping Your Head Up (2016)
234. DIA - Egeya (2015)
235. Alesso feat. Roy English – Cool (2015)
236. Owl Eyes - Closure (2017)
237. DJ Fresh – The Feeling (2013)
238. Leon Vynehall – Blush (2016)
239. Calvin Harris feat. Haim – Pray to God (2015)
240. Jaymes Young – Dark Star (Kiely Rich remix) (2012)
241. Fae – Ruok (2015)
242. Pierce Fulton feat. Noosa – What is Gonna Make You Happy? (2019)
243. Inouwee – Danger (2018)
244. Power Glove – Crypt (2015)
245. Alessia Cara - Here (2015)
246. Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus – Nothing Breaks Like a Heart (2018)
247. Ke$ha – Blow (2011)
248. Sia – Chandelier (2014)
249. Yoko Shimamura – The Other Promise (2019)
250. Ephera - Alaska (2014)

And we're off with an elongated section so we can even up later. Amongst this lot which you may know are Sia's powerhouse anthem, her vocals are generally music to my ears which she doesn't strain and they are at their best here, Ke$ha is an artist I don't usually stan, but Blow is rather cool and I have memories of the Inbetweeners movie. Nothing Breaks Like a Heart is both artists' best of the decade in my book and suits so well, that Jolene-aping sound is wonderful. Here really spoke to me quite a lot with it's introvert at parties message and I come back to it a lot, Pray to God was a criminal flop and easily one of Calvin's best, I love the epic feel and ofc. Haim are glorious as ever. DJ Fresh is a really feelgood song that hasn't dated that well but is still very fun. A bop from Alesso, a slightly strange funky moment from Muse and the last song from Mumford & Sons I REALLY liked, it does feel a long time ago, I did enjoy their debut but the next album didn't appeal much and I did kinda like the change in sound that came from Album 3, but they didn't stick with me as well, still, The Cave is wonderful and I love it's slow build to barnyard bop, I did not expect to like Birdy's material at all after her rather dull takes on indie classics but turns out her original stuff is definitely much better, Keeping Your Head Up sounds wildly beyond her years and is wonderful, and finally, Easy Love, just one of the happiest songs you can have, filled me with joy in that hot summer of 2015.

There are rather a lot of my own BJSC entries here as well, two epic video game instrumentals in tiasu and Power Glove, the latter very suited to Halloween with it's horror movie sound effects. Some strange Bulgarian futurepop that I can only find in the depths of Reddit with DIA, I should check on her again soon as I did see she had released some other stuff, and my recent hit (yay) in a beautiful piano instrumental from Efisio Cross, where has he been all my decade? Alev Lenz's voice was perfect for the damning, doom-laden scene in Black Mirror 's Hated in the Nation and the song is glorious even out of context, and Woodkid does have more to come but this one I found this year is an extremely intriguing use of a children's choir, percussion instruments and excerpts from an interview from actress, Jennifer Connelly, certainly recommended if you don't know it from BJSC, there are also some discoveries from other nations, Fall 4 U was one of my early favourites and I love its slow shimmery start turning into a disco hook. Untouchable is an epic rock anthem as a full movement. Dark Star is another early favourite, a wonderful indie-dance epic, thanks to late great Hitstastic for cutting it down to a fully impactful length and I was fortunate to be on Plug when The Other Promise played despite me not being in that contest as it is absolutely gorgeous and would've certainly got my 18, I have kept it nonetheless and it makes my lip wobble every time.

Some other Buzzjack contest songs here, well done to those who sent them, Alaska is a beautiful dreamy electronic number with epic scope, Blush a catchy extended disco cut, Ruok a constantly building and never unengaging nine-minute electronic dance number. I like anything that combines flutes and strings with dance so Hope is right up my street, Closure is a glorious song that could sound straight off of any CHVRCHES album and Danger is a right infectious pop dance number that I'm not mad at all beat me to the win in UP, not at all x

Finally, a few good internet discoveries I've kept to myself, Light Years is the first of many beautiful 80s-inspired cuts from the Midnight and Nikki Flores, Dream the Dare sounds very Fleetwood Mac and while I'm trying to decode those lyrics, it's a really chilled and feel-good number that I associate it with my uni summer working away from home. What is Gonna Make You Happy is linked below, I discovered this artist this year and I really like the ambient trip-hop sound of his work, this one is particularly good and evokes Massive Attack, I never got round to sending it to BJSC as I was slightly concerned how it would do, but I'd highly recommend:

(Oh God, I'm not sticking to my rule of not doing too much commentary for the lower sections am I? mellow.gif RIP me)

Lover and Doin' Time are my favourites from your 2019 list! The latter is my favourite Lana song in a loooong time.

I wasn't expecting to see Blow in your top 250 *_* what an anthem! Lots of love for that and Chandelier.

what I know and like so far:

221. Sigala – Easy Love (2015) tune! he'd out-do this a few times for me but it was a great introduction (although I wouldn't have guessed that he'd still be making hits in 2019 and beyond)
223. Efisio Cross – Can I Keep You (2019)
226. Mumford & Sons – The Cave (2010)
228. Tiasu - Plummet (2015)
231. Sir Felix – Hope (2019)
235. Alesso feat. Roy English – Cool (2015) love this!
237. DJ Fresh – The Feeling (2013) wouldn't be so high on my list, he had better tracks, but I remember enjoying this a fair bit
238. Leon Vynehall – Blush (2016)
239. Calvin Harris feat. Haim – Pray to God (2015) love this, shame it was a bit of a one off for Calvin although I love his recent songs a lot too
240. Jaymes Young – Dark Star (Kiely Rich remix) (2012)
241. Fae – Ruok (2015) probably still the best song to come out of UP
242. Pierce Fulton feat. Noosa – What is Gonna Make You Happy? (2019) having only heard Kuaga and Waiting For Tomorrow from him this is... not what I was expecting, but quite good
244. Power Glove – Crypt (2015)
246. Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus – Nothing Breaks Like a Heart (2018) this'll be high up my 2019 list, one of the year's best pop songs
248. Sia – Chandelier (2014) looking at my decade-end chart as it stands it looks like this'll be in a similar position on my list, great track
249. Yoko Shimamura – The Other Promise (2019)

and yay for Dance Monkey and Emerald Princess featuring in 2019!

201. Wild at Heart - Darling (2012)
202. Family of the Year – Hero (2013)
203. Korw – Luna’s Moon Dance (2018)
204. Cusco – Orpheus & Eurydice / Oracle of Delphi (2017)
205. London Grammar – Strong (2013)
206. Ani Glass – Y Ddawns (2016)
207. Moodoid feat. WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA - Langage (2018)
208. Ten Walls – Walking with Elephants (2014)
209. Plaitum - Jagwa (2016)
210. Cosmonaut Grecko – Anytime (2014)
211. Of Monsters & Men – Little Talks (2012)
212. Jade Bird – Love Has All Been Done Before (2018)
213. Jai Wolf – Indian Summer (2015)
214. Ariana Grande – Thank u Next (2018)
215. A Thousand Falls – Lost (2013)
216. K’Naan – Wavin’ Flag (2010)
217. Florence & The Machine – What Kind of Man (2015)
218. Taylor Swift – Style (2014)
219. Haim – Now I’m In It (2019)
220. Wilkinson - Afterglow (2013)

Some Buzzjack friendly stuff here, frankly I wish every break-up song was as mature as Thank u Next was, and its such a great little earworm that she definitely deserves the success (even not taking into account what she's been through this decade). Style is one of many excellent pop cuts from 1989, I wouldn't call myself a Swifty (I despise fan names for one), but she really pulled it out of the bag with this album. What Kind of Man is an out and out shout-along indie anthem that Mrs Welch does very well and was sadly the last really good thing I heard from her this decade. Haim's best of the last year and one that confirmed they can still do fantastic songs with this infectious little number. London Grammar have another to come, but Strong is a beautiful, incredibly sung ballad indicative of their best work, and while I'm somewhat in the unpopular opinion that Little Talks isn't the best song from Of Monsters and Men, it's still a fantastic duet and glorious out of nowhere hit.

Jade Bird provides that classic rock sound from the female side, thanks to Radio 1 for spamming this and injecting it into my head. It's a shame Ten Walls turned out to be a homophobe as Walking with Elephants is an excellent plodding beat that really does put me in the mind of walking with those giant animals. Afterglow is a simple yet very catchy banger that is one of the rare songs I came to love the more Kiss FM rinsed it, and Waving Flag is a wonderful throwback to the World Cup 2010 and has a genuinely great African sound and hopeful nature about it that made it a sing-along anthem, have never been more annoyed than when this missed number 1 to that dreadful Shout for England song x

For the more obscure stuff, Cosmonaut Grechko was a song I sent to UP a while back, it's a lovely retro-inspired song with great strings and synths making it sound pretty timeless, anytime if you like, lol. I still believe my uploaded link of Lost by a Thousand Falls is the only one on the internet so I'm gonna just promote that here x it's a pretty great out and out rock song. Indian Summer is a wonderfully ethnic-tinged dance-along song, Jagwa is a dominating soundscape of Witchy synths, shoutout also to LMHY from them. Langage is a beautiful synthpop French/Japanese duet about appropriately language not being a barrier, a wonderful message. Luna's Moon Dance is a great end-of-world string lead dance song and one of the many surprisingly good examples of Brony music. Y Ddawns is one of the first Welsh language songs I've heard and it's excellent, well done that randomer from the Pipettes. Hero is one I first heard in an Unknown Pleasures edition but was later used in the movie Boyhood where it sounded excellently wistful and nostalgic, and finally I break my own rule a bit with Cusco as they are from 2003 but it did lead me to a treasure trove of relaxing new wave music set to Greek legends, both of these are very different moods, Orpheus... layered and dark and Oracle... bright and hopeful, both are definitely worth a listen.

202. Family of the Year – Hero (2013) Now that's a bit of nostalgia! Genuinely forgot this song existed
208. Ten Walls – Walking with Elephants (2014)
211. Of Monsters & Men – Little Talks (2012)
212. Jade Bird – Love Has All Been Done Before (2018)
216. K’Naan – Wavin’ Flag (2010) Absolutely love this, undoubtedly the anthem of the 2010 World Cup
220. Wilkinson - Afterglow (2013)
221. Sigala – Easy Love (2015) A really fab song to start your career with! I still prefer Sweet Lovin but this remains a tune
235. Alesso feat. Roy English – Cool (2015)
242. Pierce Fulton feat. Noosa – What is Gonna Make You Happy? (2019) Didn't realise Pierce Fulton had new music out! Giving a listen now, it's certainly a distinct sound, reminding me a bit of UNKLE actually
245. Alessia Cara - Here (2015)
246. Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus – Nothing Breaks Like a Heart (2018)

Glad to hear people are listening to Pierce Fulton! Maybe I should still send it to BJSC.

-x-

181. Vanic x Machineheart - Circles (2014)
182. Kygo feat. Kodaline – Raging (2016)
183. The New Division – Kids (2012)
184. Kitchen - Time (2016)
185. Clean Bandit feat. Anne Marie & Sean Paul – Rockabye (2016)
186. The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk – Starboy (2015)
187. How I Became The Bomb – Ulay Oh (2016)
188. Priest – Our Time Will Come (2018)
189. Paloma Faith – Picking Up The Pieces (2012)
190. Illenium feat. Joni Fatora - Fortress (2016)
191. Saint Motel – My Type (2014)
192. Vancouver Sleep Clinic - Flaws (2014)
193. Watermat – Bullit (2014)
194. Lady Gaga – The Edge of Glory (2011)
195. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Holy Mountain (2017)
196. Kids of the Apocalypse - Empire (2013)
197. Epic Soul Factory – Everdream (2018)
198. Illenium feat. ECHOS - Afterlife (2016)
199. Oh Wonder – Technicolor Beat (2015)
200. Karmin – Brokenhearted (2012)

So into the top 200. Brokenhearted being here might destroy my credibility indeed, but I've always found that chorus really infectious and a great summer 2012 memory. There's a few more chart hits here, Lady Gaga has been generally up and down for me but her best moments allow her excellent vocals to shine through with a fair bit of grand production too, that's exactly what the Edge of Glory does with it's great vocal mixed with the wonderful sax solo from the late great Clarence Clemons. Bullit has some excellent synth work and I could bop along to it all day, Starboy is the first of two of Weeknd's collaboration with Daft Punk, a rather wonderful decision to lift his occasionally basic R'n'B pop to a sultry new digitised sound. Clean Bandit have varied greatly in quality for me, but their best ones are wonderful and Rockabye, a refreshingly 'ordinary' addition to the Christmas number 1s, is an excellent mix of reggae, classical and pop that still sounds great, DAILY STRUGGLE etc. Picking Up The Pieces is a great piece of classy pop from Paloma Faith, not quite up there with New York but still great and finally Kygo started out interesting, before quickly going boring, but he has a few great songs under his belt, Raging, helped with the lovely Kodaline on vocal duties, has a great urgent pacing and lovely piano breakdown which makes for a rather lovely listen. Lovely.

Of those that were less big hits, Oh Wonder have some wonderful harmonies and great subtle, stripped down sound and it comes across the best with the haunting and beautiful Technicolor Beat, they've been a great new discovery this decade. My Type was certainly an unexpected top 40 hit, but that sax solo is so infectious and it's the sort of 'landfill indie' sound that I can't get enough of. Speaking of, Holy Mountain is a similar out and out rawk moment that owes more than a little to She Bangs by Ricky Martin, but it's so much fun, I have to stan, though he certainly has better to come. Kids of the Apocalypse have had a great sense of mystery and intrigue around themselves and their hard-hitting environmental message and distorted style works really well, Empire is certainly a great showcase of this and a highly recommended listen if you're not aware but my KOTA song contest entries were better x

And the song contest stuff, dance producer Illenium had a glorious trio of singles in 2016 that showcased the best of emotional, melodic pop dubstep that SuicideSheep can offer. Afterlife has some wonderful big vocals and a real BIG drop that raises the scale and Fortress is much more subtle, but still has some emotion-ridden vocals and a slowly building drop, both having the same great effect. I've really enjoyed Priest's catchy electro pop sound throughout the decade, and Our Time Will Come certainly exemplifies that the best and believe me, that hook won't leave your head. Quite a few of my own song contest entries are here, Everdream was a bit of a failure there, but is one of the most excellent examples of building emotional pieces I've seen this year and the big YouTube view count and emotional responses are justified. Time is a beautiful post-rock reworking of the Hans Zimmer track from Inception and is a serious epic that needs to soundtrack every climactic movie scene, and Kids is an Unknown Pleasures entry from all the way back in 2012 and could well pass as a track from a pre-successful Years and Years with it's spacey soundscape and shimmering synth breakdown. Ulay Oh is a song I happened upon by chance when reading of the rather touching story between an artist who left her husband after walking the Wall of China in the 1970s, only to have him show up to her art exhibition. The viral video will definitely bring a tear to your eye and the song works really well around it. Finally, Circles is a great BJSC discovery which I thought sounded mainstream enough to make it big but it wasn't to be, it still is great with her great vocals and catchy verses leading up to a fantastic dubstep drop and Flaws is a beautiful blog find that is very reminiscent of Bon Iver and is recommended to any fans of him.

161. Years & Years - King (2015)
162. Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris – We Found Love (2011)
163. Pale Waves - Noises (2018)
164. Idina Menzel – Let It Go (2013)
165. Lucenzo – Danza Kudoro (2011)
166. DANCE WITH THE DEAD - Waves (2015)
167. Bastille – Pompeii (2013)
168. Passion Pit – Take a Walk (2012)
169. World’s End Girlfriend – Les Enfants Du Paradis (2017)
170. Calvin Harris feat. Dua Lipa – One Kiss (2018)
171. The Disciples – They Don’t Know (2015)
172. Alex Adair – Make Me Feel Better (2014)
173. Haiku Salut – Glockelbar (2013)
174. Parachute Youth – Can’t Get Better Than This (2012)
175. The 1975 – Chocolate (2013)
176. Le Maitre - Closer (2015)
177. Tina Guo – Pokemon/Super Mario Bros. (2017)
178. Varien – Lilith (2017)
179. Emmelie De Forrest - Rainmaker (2014)
180. Otto Knows – Million Voices (2012)

Here we have a double dosage of Calvin Harris. We Found Love is still easily the best thing Rihanna has done this decade, she might have been annoyingly omnipresent for too long but I never minded with this as I have some great first year uni memories of this, that breakdown is still fantastic <3 and One Kiss sounded pretty excellent when going for a walk in the hot summer of 2018 and showed he can do chilled, vibey dance as well as the same tired breakdowns (must as I love those breakdowns lol). Also here is Years & Years with the synth anthem that is King, I didn't really get much into them asides from that but this was pretty undeniable and a deserved chart topper. The goddess that is QUEENDINA SLAYZEL is here as well, writing about Frozen for my dissertation gives me good memories of some tough research that I still enjoyed doing and I enjoyed the broadway sensation of this all the way with it, it's Disney to a tee yet such a singalong anthem for just about everyone that certainly deserves to be this generation's Circle of Life. Bastille were a bit of a victim of overexposure and losing what made them great in the first place I found, but I did still really enjoy Pompeii with it's Gregorian chants and anthemic chorus and was pleased that it became an unlikely massive seller here. Chocolate was another song like this, I have enjoyed many of the 1975's hits as they've become the new indie favourites, but this is still my favourite and I love his accent and the creeping guitars on this. Make Me Feel Better was much better before it got pulled up for the sample and switched, fortunately I still have that original from when it was entered into BJSC and it's got a great frantic duet line complemented by the marimba breakdown. Finally, Million Voices was a wonderful, well let's be honest, Avicii rip-off building a truly wonderful soundscape, something about that title...

Pale Waves have been a great new discovery for me, I'm not usually into their type of teen-angst guitar sound but Heather has a great, infectious voice and interesting production, Noises reflects a confused cry for help lyrically and sonically has one of their best guitar solos and choruses and is a powerful affair overall. I wish Closer had become a hit, it's a wonderful sax-led dance song that seemed very accessible for radios, ah well, it's still a tune regardless. I'm not sure many remember Danza Kudoro as it was a fairly fleeting hit, but it has a wonderful Latin vibe and infectious beat, thanks UK for making the right choice of ignoring that bast*rdised Pitbull version of it. They Don't Know was also a brief hit but an unexpected one and I love it's slightly sinister build and subtle production, and thankfully their bigger hits managed to maintain some quality as well. One thing you may be surprised to see is Emmelie Du Forest, not often I ever research Eurovision artists further but I loved Only Teardrops and Rainmaker proved to be great too, with it's tribal chanting refrain and continuing theme of water giving it an authentic Scandinavian feel.

And for the obscure stuff, some more of my BJSC entries in the form of Glockelbar, a xylophone led delicate instrumental that has power in it's subtlety and a beautiful animated video which will be linked below and a horror dance/classical inspired instrumental from Varien, I wish I could show how diverse and interesting a dance producer he is in just these words but alas I can't, but this is a great one if you like that kind of thing and makes his trademark use of non-typical instruments in dance combined with synths (in this case, choral vocals and electric guitars). Parachute Youth was an early entry and a great slowly building dance number accompanied with some infectious vocal lines which pays off excellently. Take a Walk has a great lyrical message still relevant today and a great beat to go along with it too. I was glad for my uni flatmate to introduce them to me, and finally two songs just from the description I'd love. DANCE WITH THE DEAD make horror synth instrumentals 80s style which is my shit and Waves is one of my favourites of the decade from BJSC and Tina Guo does classical renditions of video game themes Mario and Pokemon, I actually put my renewed interest in the latter's music to this, kind of, glorious.

So many good songs in here already! Particularly love Bullit, Starboy, Raging and Pompeii, which would probably all be in my top 250 if I did one!

What Kind of Man, Million Voices, They Don’t Know, Walking with Elephants, Little Talks, The Cave, Let It Go and Afterglow are all great too, loads of others I like as well. Looking forward to seeing more of this!

Reading this has just made me wonder if DANCE WITH THE DEAD have dropped any new music of late and... I did miss a couple of new songs from them this year but more importantly just seen they literally just dropped a teaser video for a new EP coming in a couple of weeks, so thanks for reminding me they existed xx

Lots of great stuff on here ofc. But you do need to cease the trolling about 'Dance Monkey' (and 'Let It Go') now pls. And Karmin's 'Brokenhearted'? Disgusting x

Stuff wot I particularly like so far:

162. Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris – We Found Love
165. Lucenzo – Danza Kudoro - wub.gif should have been as big as Despacito, before its time x
166. DANCE WITH THE DEAD - Waves
167. Bastille – Pompeii
169. World’s End Girlfriend – Les Enfants Du Paradis
171. The Disciples – They Don’t Know
172. Alex Adair – Make Me Feel Better - back when tropical house was a new and actually exciting genre, that went to shit so quickly x this song is kind of basic itself in retrospect but I can still enjoy it just remembering it being exciting at the time
173. Haiku Salut – Glockelbar
174. Parachute Youth – Can’t Get Better Than This
175. The 1975 – Chocolate - still their best song with considerable ease
177. Tina Guo – Pokemon/Super Mario Bros.
178. Varien – Lilith
180. Otto Knows – Million Voices
181. Vanic x Machineheart - Circles (2014)
184. Kitchen - Time (2016)
186. The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk – Starboy (2015)
187. How I Became The Bomb – Ulay Oh (2016)
190. Illenium feat. Joni Fatora - Fortress (2016)
193. Watermat – Bullit (2014)
194. Lady Gaga – The Edge of Glory (2011)
195. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Holy Mountain (2017)
196. Kids of the Apocalypse - Empire (2013) - better than your KOTA entries xx
198. Illenium feat. ECHOS - Afterlife (2016)
199. Oh Wonder – Technicolor Beat (2015) - this and 'Body Gold' still remain the only songs of theirs I care about, I keep expecting their new stuff to be better than it is, may be time to let go of that hope x
204. Cusco – Orpheus & Eurydice / Oracle of Delphi (2017)
205. London Grammar – Strong (2013)
206. Ani Glass – Y Ddawns (2016)
207. Moodoid feat. WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA - Langage (2018)
208. Ten Walls – Walking with Elephants (2014) - the sad moment when the only time we may ever see a top 10 hit like this again might be if for some reason one catches on on TikTok
209. Plaitum - Jagwa (2016)
211. Of Monsters & Men – Little Talks (2012)
213. Jai Wolf – Indian Summer (2015)

217. Florence & The Machine – What Kind of Man (2015)

222. Chad Valley feat. Glasser – Fall 4 U (2012)
225. Anathema – Untouchable (2018)
226. Mumford & Sons – The Cave (2010)
234. DIA - Egeya (2015)
239. Calvin Harris feat. Haim – Pray to God (2015)

248. Sia – Chandelier (2014)
249. Yoko Shimamura – The Other Promise (2019)
250. Ephera - Alaska (2014)

I've not heard the song you highlighted from Vancouver Sleep Clinic but I really liked 'Bad Dream' by them from this year, and also 'Vapour' from Nuggets ages ago, I'll try and check this one out too at some point!

Ooh I actually know that one as it was one of the 'coach songs' when I was on my trip to Scandinavia and was played by the tour guides to wake us all up, so I can only associate it with that laugh.gif that's a good song tho, sounds much more Avicii.

Alas, Edge of Glory is her highest here oops, that's a shame (Shallow and Alejandro were also kinda close x(and I guess Bad Romance though I count that as 2009)

158. Stellar Dreams – Infinity (2017)
159. Agy - Arvedavgi (2017)
160. Ramin Djawadi – Paint it Black (2017)

Ramin Djawadi as the composer for Game of Thrones and Westworld certainly knows how to make a great dramatic score and for the latter, he composed many classical renditions of classic songs such as this Rolling Stones, working to genius effect (also watch Westworld x). Also from 2017 BJSC-wise is Arvedavgi (do hope I'm spelling that right) a wonderful discovery with a bouncy instrumental and peaceful, wistful vocal that really puts me in a good place, Infinity is a gorgeous track drenched in shimmering 80s synths that truly do take you to new heights, a very good internet discovery as the entire EP is really wonderful (Parallel and Dimensions just missed this list). Kitten are a group I've been getting into a bit more recently, though Fall On Me from a few years back is still their best, wonderfully sung and a nice tribute to Suede. Ghostcity is a great throwback to my early BJSC days now and is a great synth-led pop song that I feel could really be a hit if someone mainstream sung it, shame, and Travelling Light is one of the most interesting electronic journeys I've found, going from curious to confused to melancholy to angry to sadness in just six minutes and if you listen to the SuicideSheep upload, it's accompanied with an excellent moving video. It's a real treat and I was pleased to see others warm to it too.

On the more mainstream side, Attracting Flies is the wonderful debut from AlunaGeorge, I feel bad I never checked out that album, but I love their whole package, her girly yet pointing and provocative singing style and the minimalist electronic production work to it's best here. Another Kygo song where he was at his best is his remix of Cut Your Teeth, which is so vibey and lush and fits in with the original vocals really well, his shtick got a bit old eventually, much like tropical house in general but I did love him at first. Lean On is something you will all know and it is still a right bop and never got old through overplay. Riptide is another surprise big hit, I remember loving it's literal music video in Unknown Pleasures and was pleased to see it take off, an example of how to do acoustic singer-songwriter well. Youth was before my time in BJSC so I was glad to see it become a minor hit as it's one of my favourite debuts, with it's echoey vocals, slowly building quirky electronic backing and a longing chorus, it's really quite beautiful and though her material after this was lacklustre, this does make me sad for what she was capable of. Someone that doesn't need to worry about lack of success is Dua Lipa, I generally have time for her sassy, yet smart lyricism showing she's more than just a pretty face though she is a very hot one as well, Be The One has a great anthemic chorus which will get stuck in your head and still remains her best for me, and finally dame Florence with her highest entry here, Shake it Out is insanely infectious but also incredibly sung and anthemic and I was very glad to see this become a big hit here.

MrSuicideSheep is a channel I discovered in the mid 2010s and did have a brief obsession with it and some of the best discoveries can be seen here. Ocean Floors is a random song I found on SuicideSheep (I had a phase this decade where I was really into that, as you can see), but it's a really chilled and absorbing listen that I would love to listen to on an ocean floor should I ever have that chance. Crywolf was easily my best discovery from SuicideSheep and Akureyri captures what he does excellently - minimal electro beats surrounding a voice and lyrics wrapped in emotion, it's so beautiful and engaging hearing his 'woahs' on the chorus. It flopped in BJSC sadly, but I have another one to come that can match that x Rush Over Me I first heard in 2016 but it didn't hit me until fairly recently, a lot of the channel's biggest names are here and it captures that emotional dance sound they do really well with the hard drops, melodic backing and an fittingly emotional lead vocal from HAILENE (Sorry Dan, Saving Light just missed out here, but much love to that too x)

And of what's left, Frozen Night I don't believe I shared on here, but it's another internet brony soundtrack and is part of an epic classical composition, this being the finale and you can really feel the epicness and intensity of the flutes throughout, it's impressively well composed and beautifully titled ofc. Female Robbery was my first ever Unknown Pleasures entries and one I still really like, telling a rather dark story through distorted, glitchy and often desperate production and vocals really makes it a fittingly intense listen. LSDREAM is a glitchy, out of this world electronic artist who is appropriately named as the songs accurately reflect an acid trip in space, OBLIVION is probably the best given it's beautiful visuals it's accompanied with. CHVRCHES collaborated with WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA in a collaboration I never expected in a million years, but a welcome one as it's a fast paced, crazy anthem that bangs on the treadmill.

125. Coldplay - Daddy (2019)
126. The 1975 – The Sound (2013)
127. Overhead, The Albatross – Big River Man (2016)
128. Lorde – Royals (2013)
129. The Birthday Massacre – Under Your Spell (2017)
130. Danny L Harle – Broken Flowers (2014)
131. Marsheaux – Safe Tonight (2016)
132. Skrillex & The Doors – Breakin’ a Sweat (2012)
133. Billie Eilish – bad guy (2019)
134. Alex Clare – Too Close (2012)
135. Machineheart – snow (Myles Travitz remix) (2015)
136. Ella Henderson – Ghost (2014)
137. 99 Souls – The Girl is Mine (2015)
138. The xx – On Hold (2017)
139. Taylor Swift – Shake it Off (2014)
140. Avicii – Levels (2011)

Starting off with my first namesake, I like any Tom but particularly one with a sound reminiscent of Keane with a great lighters in the air chorus, it's weird as I don't often like singer-songwriter radio stuff like this, but I guess I'm not totally closed to it. AAAAIIIRRRGGH WILL LEAVE THE LAIGHT AWWWWWN. Take That are generally in my good books, their music, despite getting massively overplayed, has a ton more depth than your average boyband and you can see why they've lasted, I wish Gary Barlow weren't such a c word that dampens them. The Flood is great though, an excellent chorus even if the song doesn't really utilise them all like their best songs do. I said Chocolate was my favourite 1975 song, didn't realise The Sound was still to come oop, but it's fairly close, The Sound makes a great use of a more electronic tinge and a great toe-tapping rhythm culminating in a classic guitar solo. Daddy is easily the best thing to come out of this rather erratic Coldplay era, it's a classic stripped down and subtle sound elevated by a gorgeous vocal and piano combination that is timeless and could've been from any era. They may very much be doing their own thing these days, but if they're still recording gems like this, I'm happy.

Lorde, one of the breakout stars of the decade, is here with the rather addictive and minimalist Royals, I did enjoy her most recent era too, but this sharp take on celebrity lifestyles still remains the jewel in her crown. In a similar teen angsty vibe, we have Billie Eilish, COMFORTABLY my favourite new artist of the year as seemingly the only successful artist that is actually offering something more experimental and sounding a bit different, the hormonal and underground vibes certainly come out the best in bad guy, the whole album is really good though and I'm certainly looking forward to hearing more from her. Alex Clare was a quite out of nowhere hit, I think cos of an advert but that's OK as this is an excellent piece of epic alt-pop. Ella Henderson is also here with a song that is WAY better than any X Factor graduate has a right to be and I'm glad her talents have been rewarded even if these days, it's just as a faceless dance vocalist. Remember when this forum was the testing ground for UK smashes? It was the case with 99 Souls who posted their track on here for promo prior to it taking off, and their excellent Destinys Child/Brandy mash up, The Girl is Mine, is still a real bop. Shake It Off will probably be remembered as one of the songs of the decade and the real breakout moment for Taylor Swift, there was better on the album, but I knew she was onto something special here with that infectious chorus, parts of it are cringey, but the whole package is a pretty convincing moment as a whole, and finally while Avicii was a bit hit and miss for me overall, Levels was a definite hit and it was wonderful to see a (near) instrumental do so well (please don't mention fucking Flo Rida) and such an infectious tune that makes me really sad at the great talent we lost.

For BJSC stuff, I've Been Secretly Falling Apart was one of my biggest hits in that contest and it still takes me by surprise, I'm certainly not complaining though, a beautiful reworking of Aqualung's Strange and Beautiful turns it into a darkly depressing yet finely composed piece of music, just hearing it makes my lip wobble a bit. It's difficult to find a version of Broken Flowers that isn't the re-recorded one that sounds much worse than the one originally sent to BJSC, it's a great dance banger with a vocal hook that worms it's way into your head and some nice production to accompany it. Safe Tonight makes glorious use of synths and hushed, longing vocals to make a track that sounds straight out of the 80s, it really gives me the feels every time and is a marvellous listen. Snow is a similar use of emotional vocals combined with a dominating beat that almost makes the harsh strong emotion conveyed in the lyrics rain down on you, it's a contrast but works excellently. One of my favourites from BJSC this decade.

And that leaves us with On Hold, a wonderful song by the xx that is my favourite from them, they have a wonderful hushed, sultry style anyway, but it was nice to see a progression in sound with an almost hip hop feel with the vocal effect added. Breakin' a Sweat is a strange beast, some hard dubstep with a The Doors vocal effects and an interview with Jim Morrison from 1960, whether it works or not is your prerogative but I listened to this a lot in 2012 and it's a great party song. I really got into the Under Your Spell era for The Birthday Massacre and the title track is the best as it really exposes the dark feelings and thoughts in the lyrics and expressing it through an outburst of retro guitars and synths, One just missed out here and it is an even darker but still effective song in the same vein. I was probably drawn by the Albatross mention, but still Big River Man is a wonderful journey of a post rock song with constantly exposing layers of the instrumental becoming clear as it goes along and ending as it began on a huge climax and finally, Two Steps From Hell, there's definitely more to come from them, but suffice to say, certainly one of my favourite discoveries on late night YouTube trawls and Compass is a beautiful instrumental anyway but strengthened by Merethe's light and harmonious vocals add a real warmth to it and it's build to the climax is stunning.
