Have Radio 2 changed their playlist policy? I'm sure it's usually very rare for a song to last more than 5 weeks. I think it's good decision to keep some on a bit longer.

Some songs last year also stayed on for 7/8 weeks! They've got a "6 week" average but do keep songs on for longer and shorter periods quite often now. I recall saying recently that Houdini was the longest runner at 9 weeks but from some digging found that Daft Punk's Get Lucky lasted 13 weeks!! |

Didn’t realise R2 are supporting The Libertines, thought they would have been more a 6 Music band! Guessing their young fans from 20 years ago are exactly the kind of listeners R2 are aiming for? Also, they seemed to grow in popularity and make a bigger dent in music history after they split (think Pete only started getting on the front of tabloid newspapers in 2005)! Major label these days too and apparently 6 Music playlist tries to keep it about 80% indie. I looked at recent 6 Music last.fm stats and they didn't actually play that much new Blur or Noely G last year at all compared to Radio 2. I’ve just seen that based on their Last Fm stats, Coi Leray’s ‘Players’ was 6Music’s third most played song of 2023!
An interesting choice for them lol, it stands out from pretty much everything else in their Top 50. I guess it was the Grandmaster Flash sample they liked. |

Wow, I wasn't expecting that! It probably needs to start aiming at a younger demographic soon, seems to have just aged with its audience since it started in 2002. But it will have been the sample that encouraged them to play something that was actually popular with the general public. I don't get what 6 Music is trying to do. I know it prides itself on mainly playlisting stuff from indie labels but a lot of these companies aren't exactly run from a shed in Hartlepool. Several of them are part of the Beggars Group, which is pretty, pretty huge. And I don't think XL and Domino are reaching down the back of the sofa for 50p either. They seem to snub a lot of things that would be fine for them on the grounds they are on major labels. Very confused station, is it aiming at Future Sounds listeners, the Ride, Nick Cave and Shed Seven demographic, or both?
I suppose as a pop fan I liked it more before it got its reprieve, but I guess Radio X is kind of doing the job it used to do now, with all the big R1 guitar bands like Nowt But Thieves getting on there instead. This post has been edited by HiyaLuv2: 7th April 2024, 01:21 AM |

I don’t think it’s trying to be like RX, it’s a station that plays anything that basically doesn’t fit with R1/2/1X and sometimes overlaps like they all do. |
