Except this year you can vote for a song as soon as it’s performed so maybe not 6th place for Israel!

Wouldn’t this create a disproportionate advantage in favour of countries who perform earlier though? Obviously everyone gets the same amount of votes, but you might be inclined to use them on an earlier act that you enjoyed and subsequently not vote for the later acts that were also good

I'm baffled by this

specifically this “ As of 2024, viewers watching around the world can now vote for their favourite songs for 24 hours before each Semi-Final and the Grand Final.

The change was initially introduced last year, with people from countries outside the contest being allowed to vote online and on the app for both the semi-finals and final.”

You missed the next line, which sort of explains it

QUOTE
Their votes will be converted into points that have the same weight as one participating country.

Other changes this year see voting at the Grand Final open just before the first song begins, and will remain open throughout the performances and for up to 40 minutes after the final song is performed.

Just means there's a 'rest of the world' vote which is then considered a country in itself.

I would have thought that. So country who performs 1st has hours more voting time than country who performs last.

Exactly that - hence why Sweden chose to open the show.

Sweden's position in the running order was drawn at random

Both 2010 and 2011 had voting open from the start, so I don't think it's that much of a big deal. At least this year it's only for the final, when we have already seen all the performances by now.

IIRC in 2010 & 2011 the vast majority of viewers still waited until after all the songs had been performed before they voted.

There is a massive propaganda campaign for Israel on X/Twitter. I guess Russia is behind this because some of them are what we call here as "Putin's trolls" (and living next to Russia we know who those are). The running order will not have anything to do with the number of votes Israel will get.

Lazy to blame Russia, it's the usual counter culture bores, whatever people protest about they go against it as they think that's enlightening for some reason. Seen a lot of people say they never watch but they re going to vote Israel

Regardless, the winner of the televote will be decided by people who don't watch the contest, and it's the saddest thing ever.

Zionist lobby obviously as well - like how Facebook/YouTube was spammed with pro invasion propaganda for months.

This will be Israel's equivalent of Berlin 1936 Olympics. Well next year will be as well if/when they win but hopefully amd very sadly it might not take place if countries start boycotting

The rest of the world vote was due to open 24 hours prior to the show but hasn’t, so I am assuming Joost won’t be part of the final tonight otherwise they would let people vote and include Europapa surely. The incident being investigated by the Swedish police now, so I assume it was some kind of physical altercation at the least.

I’m not going to defend violence, but unless he beat the living daylights out of someone unprovoked, I struggle to see why it should be so drastic. I mean… it’s a tense situation and if a reporter had hounded him about Israel or something, after the press conference, I could see why he might snap and something might happen. Everyone has said how the atmosphere is very tense, and Joost was kind of a main character in the press conference drama about Israel, so I could see how it could escalate into something. But obviously that’s all speculative when we don’t know what happened.

I understand if it’s an ongoing investigation, they can’t say what’s going on but they should at least make a statement before the show. Just simply say that Joost won’t be part of the final due to an ongoing issue!

None of the broadcasters have withdrawn or really spoken out (other than Belgium on the semi 2 broadcast) about Israel, I suppose there’s contract/potential fine issues (not that’s that’s an excuse for morals) though compared to them just not joining the next season. Even if israel doesn’t win I wonder if we will see countries withdraw due to the absolute shit show this year has been! If they do win I expect a fair few countries to just not renew participation.

Honestly this - I keep thinking that it’s such a political mess this year I think it will encourage withdrawal, also in the future it might make artists think twice about participating?

Like all of us, I’m a total ESC stan, it’s the biggest night of the year and I’ve been 4 times and it’s always been incredible yet this year I’m hardly looking forward to tonight, I’ve just got a feeling of dread at the outcome.
