The Arctic Monkeys' sixth #1 becomes their first to not make at least two weeks at the top on my chart, as "Cornerstone" surrenders the throne to Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance" (moving 2-1, in it's 6th charting week) after just seven days. 23 year-old Lady GaGa gets her first number 1 with the aforementioned "Bad Romance"; a powerful, electropop thriller that even references British horror film director Alfred Hitchcock; however she has already made my Top 10 twice before this year, with "Poker Face" previously the biggest hit reaching #6 in March, and "Paparazzi" the other (#10 in July). The only other action in a relatively static Top 5 is a 9-5 climb for Ellie Goulding who looked like stalling at 9 last week. The debut single from 24 year-old Welsh singer-songwriter "Under The Sheets" gained limited support from Radio 1, enough for a #54 chart debut on the official chart last week. Now with major label backing in the form of Polydor, 2010 is looking to become a great year for her. Further down the top 10 there is one new entrant, that being "Laura" - the 3rd single from San Francisco band Girls, which jumps 12-7. Dizzee Rascal's "Dirtee Cash" makes no move at 10, and the only other improvement is a 8-6 jump back up the chart for "Mowgli's Road".

Despite a relatively dead Top 10, there is plenty of movement outside. Patrick Wolf's latest "Damaris" is looking to easily emulate previous success (following-up most recent hit, "Hard Times" which spent 2 weeks at #3 back in June), as it races 26-14. The Drums failed to chart with debut hit "Let's Go Surfing" - the follow-up summerlike melodies of "I Felt Stupid" are however almost certainly Top 10 bound in December, and it continues to rise slowly- a total of 7 places to #17 this week. Frightened Rabbit who were last on the chart in 2008 with "It's Christmas So We'll Stop" (#3), make a return to the Top 15 this week with "Swim Until You Can't See Land", which is the first single to be taken from forthcoming new album The Winter of Mixed Drinks due in March. Groove Armada and Bombay Bicycle Club also return to this week's Top 20 with "I Won't Kneel" (up 28-19) and "Always Like This" (climbing 27-20) respectively. Groove Armada are however returning after a slightly longer period than Bombay Bicycle Club (who were in the Top 10 with "Magnet" only in September); the British duo's last hit being August 2007's "Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)" which peaked at #3.

Only five new entries to the chart this week in the traditional Christmas slow down period, however one 2010 release makes it in at 49 - that being the debut single from 80s electro-pop duo Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson, otherwise known as Hurts - "Wonderful Life" (not a Black cover just incase you were wondering) is due for release on 11th January. Basement Jaxx return after the relative flop of "Feelings Gone" (#20 in August), this time with vocal contributions from Devonte Hynes a.k.a. Lightspeed Champion.. "My Turn" debuts at 38, and is IMO a much better choice. The other three releases (all Christmas themed!) come from Strokes lead singer Julian Casablancas ("I Wish It Was Christmas Today" new at 35), Laura Marling ("Goodbye England (Covered In Snow)" new at 41) and Camera Obscura ("The Blizzard" new at 43).
