THE BANNING PERIOD

Right, you may have noticed that things have changed a bit for this month's contest. If you haven't, where have you been?! Basically, the mods introduced a rule, which included a banlist and such other convoluted things like Radio 1 playlists and BuzzJack artist forums, but it was decided that this was a stupid rule, so we got rid of it and this is your compromise.

Each month, you (the BJSC public), will democratically compile the banlist for that month. To do this, each participant is allowed to PM me (AaronTM, the host of XXIV) TWO songs (and the artist) that they feel are too cheap for the current contest or don't warrant being sent. How you pick these songs is up to you. You might want to protect the contest against current chart hits (perhaps Owl City - Fireflies? or Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind Part II?) or you might want to protect it from those future releases that most people will have heard already. (maybe Goldfrapp - Rocket? or Gabriella Cilmi - On A Mission) Basically, you can nominate anything, but that's the gist of the rule. (just don't abuse it by nominating an undeserving song, just because someone is considering it, please) Either way, it's only optional.

Anyway, when nominations are collected, any song that gets THREE or more nominations will be put on the banlist. If nothing gets enough nominations, the only songs on the banlist are the ones that would usually be banned. This includes artists that were in the top 3 of the previous contest, the first two singles of the current era by any artists with a Buzzjack artist forum, Eurovision entries etc. etc.

I'll give you until roughly Wednesday February 3rd 2010, 9:00pm UK time to get your nominations in. Once I've got the banlist sorted, I will then open up the Artist Reservation Thread where I'll announce the banlist, at no specific time.

Got it? Good. If not, just ask. But basically...get sending those PMs I guess!

EDIT1: Yes, please avoid discussing your nominations with other people and/or announcing them publically!

Nominated :D
I assume so as to be fair and prevent people teaming up to get songs banned we won't be allowed to discuss our noms?
I voted, I'm pretty happy with my nominations although I'm sure one of them wouldn't have been used anywya :P.

Ah, knew I'd forgotten something! Added to the end of the first post. No discussing your nominations please.

EDIT: p.s. I like your sig. ^_^

Do I have to nominate?

Either way, it's only optional.
damn, I have four - I guess I'll go with the two that I think would be more likely to be sent if they weren't banned

Something is BANNED already.

will be interesting to see how many songs, if any at all, actually end up on this banlist or if we infact all have a different idea of what is 'cheap' at the moment!

also, for a second there I wondered why you had lyrics from Lindsay D's No Dream Impossible (UK ESC 2001 entry) and then I realised the new Lemar song has those words in it as well

blimey :o that was quick - for hilarity sake, will you post the total number of nominations the banned songs got at the end?

one or two (possibly three) songs are falling other each other from sheer hype on this forum at the moment - the fourth one I thought about doesn't seem like it would be a winner anyway, and if it was it would be a wildly unpopular one methinks, hence I didn't bother nominating it[/cryptic] :P

Sure, though I guess speculation could lower the total nominations it gets. But, people, don't assume you know what it is, nominate as you would have anyway.

Why does it matter if nominations are discussed or not? Surely the aim of this is to find something which people agree shouldn't be in the competition?

BTW, I don't mean this in an accusatory manner, so feel free to give examples and shoot me down if I'm just being an idiot.

Surely it's obvious that if a song is cheap enough it'll be agreed upon naturally? We don't need people gathering together, plotting to eliminate certain songs or going "Right, this month I think these songs are cheap *list*, pick your two from here please."

It's best if people pick their songs by themselves, rather than being influenced by what other people nominated. I thought the reason we were doing it over PM was to make it a private occasion.

Oh yeah, I understand like, not announcing it, but I don't see why it can't be discussed between people after noms have been made?

Because there will be people left to nominate who might be influenced by it?

I meant discussions between people who had already nominated :P

Well, I suppose that's alright, if you want to discuss it via PM or privately on MSN, fine!
