Posted February 13, 201015 yr Last summer, Mini Viva, Girls Can't Catch and The Dolly Rockers were seen as the next big girl groups to fill the void in left by Girls Aloud. Mini Viva had a late summer smash with "I left my heart in Tokyo", while the other two struggled with their debut singles. Now, it seems the future is grim for these groups. Mini Viva limped in at #73 during Christmas week with a very poor follow-up which later dropped nearly 110 positions the week later. Girls Can't Catch had a top 20 hit which has taken a huge tumble down the chart and The Dolly Rockers are non-existent after being dropped by their label. Do Mini Viva and GCC have a future in 2010? My answer is no. MV who did show promise with the first single are destined to be one hit wonder material. They don't have a fanbase, their last single and the new single are very weak and interest in them is completely zero. I can see the follow-up making the top 100 and them disbanding or dropped by Fascination. GCC will have a lower top 40 single, a flop album and will completely be forgotten about as well. None of the girls are likeable, and there is always critism aimed towards them. The poor chart runs of their two singles also sum up their lack of popularity and this is just another side-project of Fascination records. What is your opinion?
February 13, 201015 yr No. They're poor groups, and the sole reason they've been given record deals is because label bossess see a gap and potential in the girl group market. It's similar to indie music in 2005/2006 - when Stereophonics, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs etc. had big singles record labels thought it would be a good idea to sign up other bands who are not as good, and in the end they flopped. It's the same scenario here. Fortunately for some girl bands there is likely to be a gap in the market in the future, as Sugababes are all but done, and it won't be long before Girls Aloud go their seperate ways so maybe there is a gap in the market - I just don'texpect it to be filled by those bands.
February 13, 201015 yr Girls Cant Catch will get another single and and album. Album will bomb and single will probably have a similar to run to Echo and Keep Your Head Up. Unfortunetly that'll probably be the end of them. Im suprised Mini Viva have a record deal left tbh. I certainly dont think that album will ever see the life of day. And same for The Dolly Rockers. At least the other 2 have top 40 hits to their name, and with one member already gone, I dont think they'll be troubling it either. This time next year, I doubt any of them will still be active in their current forms anyway. Maybe Girls Cant Catch could scrappe though, but I doubt it. I agree with Rooney though. Girls Aloud and Sugababes arent going to be around forever. It actually wouldnt suprise me if we dont see another Girls Aloud album, and if we do, I doubt it'll be more than just 1. Sugababes aswell, unless something huge happens, they're done for. Not sure what The Saturdays are going to do tbh, I dont partically like giving opinion on that incase I sound like some hyped loon but I do think they'll get a 3rd album.
February 13, 201015 yr They will both get dropped after the next single followed by album release. I can imagine GCC album will get to #54 and Mini Viva album #82. Bye girls.
February 13, 201015 yr I'm really interested in buying the Mini Viva album if it ever sees the light of day, but I don't expect it will. I can't see how they have a future now. :( Girls Can't Catch are just useless, they're personalityless and nondescript. If 'Echo' can't be a hit for them then there's nothing else they can do. If there's another single I don't expect it'll do at all well, and that'll be followed by a flop or cancelled album. As for Dolly Rockers...
February 13, 201015 yr No one can fill the void in for girls aloud they are to amazing and they absence is being felt.
February 13, 201015 yr GCC should be successfull, but for some reason they aren't. They're good looking, great voices and good songs, yet they don't seem to be clicking with the public. We can put it down to personality but The Saturdays weren't any different when they started, and all three girls come across likeable. I don't think they'll last, but it's a shame cos their songs are definitely top ten worthy.
February 13, 201015 yr I'd be surprised if Mini Viva made it, to be frank, they're APPALLING. Whichever of the girls sings the chorus on I Left My Heart In Tokyo is an AWFUL vocalist, quite a nasty yelpy voice. I Wish had more potential, it was a good song production-wise, but again let down by lacklustre and dodgy vocals. GCC are better, but if Echo couldn't make the top 10, I'd be surprised if anything else will. The simple fact is, whether GA and the Sugababes are finished or not, there aren't any girlbands right now who are up to that standard. And I include the Saturdays in that statement.
February 13, 201015 yr Mini Viva are certainly the best around right now. I know both girls have bizarre voices but they both really appeal to me and I think they gel extremely well to the extent that on some songs it's difficult to pick out which is which. And the songs themselves are mostly very good. They won't last but for now they're an awful lot of fun. GCC are crap sadly, much as I liked Keep Your Head Up. But even Mini Viva are not the new Sugababes. I suspect it'll be a long while before we have a new, chart-dominating girl group.
February 13, 201015 yr My take on new girl groups GCC- catchy songs but no personality Dolly rockers-they were fun and their songs were good, but they just seem a bit too trashy "Sugababes"- kind of desperate, but there were 3 good songs on sweet 6/3/1. I don't see a future for them though. Mini Viva - have the most potential out of the rest, ive no idea why I wish flopped soo badly :( Edited February 13, 201015 yr by shakilover
February 13, 201015 yr Dolly Rockers, Girls Can't Catch and Mini Viva are all terrible and won't last, if indeed they get a first album on the shelves. Girls Aloud will come back with a bang and hopefully Sweet 7 will sell decently enough for the Sugababes to make another record where one of the members DOESN'T leave whilst it's being promoted! Not sure about the Saturdays, partially depends on how well the 3rd single from "Wordshaker" does I suppose. Edited February 13, 201015 yr by seejayjee

Not sure about the Saturdays, partially depends on how well the 3rd single from "Wordshaker" does I suppose. I think The Saturday's future existence depends a lot on the futures of Sugababes 4.0 & Girls Aloud. Having said that the chart durability of The Saturdays latest single must offer significant encouragement for their future.
February 13, 201015 yr But Ego sold virtually no albums, in spite of having a really quite expensive music video from which they recouped virtually nothing. Here Standing won't sell any albums either, and they don't make enough money touring to justify keeping the Saturdays machine going. That said Fascination will do their best to make them a success because all of their other acts (GA aside) are no-hopers who will only lose them money, and it was only a year ago that the Saturdays had a reasonably profitable album which they probably think can be achieved again.
February 13, 201015 yr It seems that Universal have got the wrong end of a very girly stick - since they've had massive success with Sugababes, Girls Aloud & The Saturdays they think that more girl bands are the way forward so they just gave the girls the same treatment as their previous bands obviously didn't real suite them that well. KYHU (whilst decent) wasn't truly catchy, although "Echo" is Ok-ish. LMHIT was amazing and so was "I Wish" - but I guess no one is interested in Xenomania knock offs :( As for the Dolly Rockers - I don't know what to say, I thought Parlaphone would do them justice, but I guess it's another flop girl band for them to :(
February 13, 201015 yr Personally, I think the only reason why The Saturdays were successful in the first place was because a couple of the girls used to be in S Club Juniors. That was the only thing that gave them the edge over other girlbands where none of the members were relatively well known. The Saturdays were also lucky enough to emerge in 2008 with some great pop singles. When I first heard 'Gold Digger' by Dolly Rockers, I thought it was absolute crap and even I wrote the girls off as nothing-ness last summer. To now find read that they've been dropped is a non-shock. Girls Can't Catch don't anything special about them. To success, they need to have a character about them but also the ability to sing live and even more importanlty appeal to young kids. That's why Spice Girls worked whether you loved them or loathed them, it was excellent marketing. Mini Vini surprised me the most as I personally thought 'I Wish' was much better than the turgid 'LMHIT' crap - like Shoat said, the vocals on the chorus upset my poor ears!!! :( If 'I Wish' had been released three weeks later (ie; early January) I reckon it could've possibly gone top 40. Their record company should give them one more chance with a decent single and see how it fares. They could do an "Atomic Kitten" who were on the verge of being dropped before 'Whole Again' became the massive hit that changed everything for them. Edited February 13, 201015 yr by Hitstastic
February 14, 201015 yr I think the Saturdays COULD last a little longer, but only if GA and the Sugababes wind up officially NOW. Otherwise nope. What with the pre-hype surrounding Ego, you'd have thought it would have been a #1 million seller. In reality, it did merely OK as a single, and did f*** all for the album. If that's the best they can come up with, then they're stuffed. I think their problem is that unlike GA and the Sugababes, and even the Spice Girls in the past, is that there is no sense of personality around them. They could be any five girls dragged off the street and given a makeover. I don't see any star power in the Saturdays at all.
February 14, 201015 yr Well, none of these Girl Groups, including The Saturdays, didn't have the huge platform in which Girls Aloud had by being manufactured from Popstars: The Rivals. I don't see any of these artists having an album surface. The Saturdays MAY do. I reckon Sugababes have one more album left, just to prove after this terrible era to see if they work as this new group or not.
February 14, 201015 yr Author I don't see the appeal in that "I Wish" song. It's just a cheap copy of "The Loving Kind" but with pathetic lyrics and raped vocals. The single would have failed to make the top 40 no matter when it was released, and dropping 110 places shows the lack of staying power. Mini Viva live leave a lot to be desired I may say ;) Sugababes - whats the hate with Jade joining? People stuck by them through the awful "Catfights and Spotlights" era, why not now?
February 14, 201015 yr Catfights + Spotlights actually has some amazing songs on it ! 'Every Broken Heart' & 'Side Chick' to name a couple. They just picked probably the two worse songs to be singles.
