Posted June 22, 201114 yr Details of the German selection for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest have been released by NDR with some changes to this successful format. Das Erste, ProSieben and the Popwellen and youth radios of ARD are to continue their successful cooperation in choosing Germany's Eurovision Song Contest entry. After Unser Star für Oslo and Unser Song für Deutschland in 2010 and 2011 respectively, a new song and artist will be found in the spring of 2012 using a similar format. The successful candidate will represent Germany at the 2012 edition of Europe's TV show in Baku, Azerbaijan. This selection process will be produced by production company Brainpool. A change to next year's competition is the appointment of one of Germany's most successful artists, Thomas D, as the Jury Foreman. With his band, Die Fantastischen Vier and as a solo artist he has received many awards including the prestigious Echo five times. Like his predecessor, Stefan Raab, the 42 year old entertainer will lead the jury, giving expert opinions of all the candidates and will also be the responsible music producer. Stefan Raab said, "I'm very happy to hand over the jury leadership to to Thomas D. He brings everything that is needed in this role: entertainer qualities, eloquence, charm and of course a lot of musical experience. I'm sure that the young artists in the show will entrust themselves to him. He is also better looking than me!" Thomas D said about his appointment, "I've always wanted to be a president! Being part of this massive musical project is a fantastic task, which I am so excited about and which I take very seriously. I'm also better looking than Stefan Raab!" Candidates for Unser Star für Baku can now register for casting sessions, which will take place in the city of Köln ahead of the competition, which will be broadcast on Das Erste and ProSieben. Stefan Raab received high acclaim for his role in the German selection process during the last two years, where he oversaw Lena's victory with Satellite in Oslo in 2010 and her top ten placing with Taken By A Stranger in Düsseldorf, just over a month ago. Now he is handing over the reigns to Thomas D, who hopes to achieve a similar success in Baku in May 2012.
January 19, 201213 yr The unique voting system (where votes are displayed throughout the show) seems very interesting. I didn't watch properly how it unfolded last week, but I will try and find a stream to watch it tonight! 10 acts participated in the first heat last week, here were the results and the top 5 qualified for the main heats: Shelly Phillips - 15.5% Roman Lob - 14.9% Céline Huber - 14.7% Leonie Burgmer - 14.7% Katja Petri - 14.7% Kai Notting - 14.5% Jil Rock - 5.9% Yasmin Gueroui - 2.4% Salih Özcan - 1.7% Jan Verweij - 1.0% The 2nd heat is tonight :) I thought Celine and Katja were the best last week, you can find last week's performance on the Unser Star Fur Baku's official website :D
January 19, 201213 yr So they're doing a similar format to how they found Lena? Interesting, I'm gonna have to follow this!
January 19, 201213 yr So they're doing a similar format to how they found Lena? Interesting, I'm gonna have to follow this! Yep! From what I've read, the 5 qualifiers from last week and the 5 from tonight will make a 10 person competition. Then each week, 2 will get eliminated I think :) A couple from last week (in particular Shelley) are trying to 'copy' Lena's style I think. That's why I found Katja and Celine the best as they weren't trying too hard!
January 19, 201213 yr I might join in once there are only about five left but I'm not sure on the idea of revealing all the voting percentages already (though I wonder if something like that would ever actually have a proper influence on the final outcome(s)). Hoping that the format can work wonders for the German entry once again (or rather the results as I must have really liked every German entry since 2006 at least).
January 19, 201213 yr One of the participants are going to be singing Geronimo by Aura Dione - I know some of you are fans! The show has just started - if anyone wants a link, just PM me (is that allowed?) :) Also, This Love, Price Tag & Grenade are going to be sung I think :) Edited January 19, 201213 yr by Ryan741

January 19, 201213 yr That voting system was SO exciting at the end there! Thank god Ornella just sneaked through though - the class of the field :D
January 19, 201213 yr Here are the results from the 2nd heat: Rachel Scharmberg - 13.3% Yana Gercke - 13.0% Sebastian Dey - 12.7% Umut Anil - 12.5% Ornella de Santis - 12.3% Vera Reissmüller - 12.3% Andrew Fischer - 9.4% Tina Sander - 7.1% Jörg Müller-Lornsen - 4.0% Polly Zeiler - 3.4% So the 10 'finalists' in the main competition are: Shelly Phillips Roman Lob Céline Huber Leonie Burgmer Katja Petri Rachel Scharmberg Yana Gercke Sebastian Dey Umut Anil Ornella de Santis
January 26, 201213 yr Tonight's results: The complete results: Roman Lob - 11.4% Céline Huber - 10.3% Ornella de Santis - 10.1% Yana Gercke - 10.1% Sebastian Dey - 9.9% Shelly Phillips - 9.8% Umut Anil - 9.8% Katja Petri - 9.6% Leonie Burgmer - 9.6% Rachel Scharnberg - 9.4% The voting system is so exciting! Thank god Katja, Celine and Ornella made it - all of them were in the bottom 2 at some point within the last minute of voting! In the end, the right ones went :D
February 2, 201213 yr They changed the voting system slightly this week, so after each minute of the final voting at the end the top act would qualify. So here is the actual order (1st most votes etc. but no percentages because of the new voting process). 1. Roman Lob 2. Yana Gercke 3. Ornella de Santis 4. Shelly Phillips 5. Céline Huber 6. Katja Petri 7. Umut Anil 8. Sebastian Dey Once again my 3 favourites Ornella, Celine and Katja made it through :cheer:
February 6, 201213 yr Here's tonights results in the order the finished, only 1 was eliminated. 1. Roman Lob 2. Shelly Phillips 3. Yana Gercke 4. Katja Petri 5. Ornella de Santis 6. Céline Huber I thought Shelly was the worst again, but there we go. In tonight's voting the top 3 were 10% ahead of the bottom 3 for most of the time. Ornella and Katja were my favourites though, so they just got through!
February 9, 201213 yr Tonight's show has just started and they are down to the final 5. Hurts' Stay is being performed by Katja - that will be interesting! :D
February 9, 201213 yr Here's tonights results in the order the finished, only 1 was eliminated. 1. Roman Lob 2. Yana Gercke 3. Ornella de Santis 4. Shelly Phillips 5. Katja Petri The voting was so close at the end, any 1 of them could have gone - Roman and Yana were not miles ahead for a change, only 0.2% for the majority!
February 9, 201213 yr I'm surprised they release the voting results after every show, surely Roman Lob will win it?
February 9, 201213 yr I'm surprised they release the voting results after every show, surely Roman Lob will win it? It doesn't quite work like that. Through the show from right at the beginning the voting percentages are displayed on screen. Then at the end of the show they have a 1 minute countdown, and whoever is 1st they qualify for the next show. They then repeat the countdown for the 2nd place etc. Before Roman qualified at the end of the first countdown, the voting percentages were all between 21% and 19% for each person - so very close indeed!! Roman is the favourite, but tonight is the first time he (and Yana) have been in serious danger of elimination :)
