James Blake's "Retrograde" comfortably holds atop the singles chart for a second consecutive week, amidst very strong competition from Autre Ne Veut's "Play By Play" which slowly inches up 3-2 to take runners-up honours. "Retrograde" is the first single from Blake's hotly anticipated second album Overgrown which will get a release on 8th April. Inside the Top 5, Jagwar Ma continue a strong ascent, rising 9-5 with the brilliant "The Throw" and Pulp make a return to the Top 5 after 12 years with "After You" (proving that Jarvis is still very much living in the 1990s with its reference to Safeway!) jumping from 6-4 to match the peak of "Sunrise" from late 2001; whether it advances much further is open to considerable doubt given the strength of the Top 3 at the moment, which also includes the former #1, Disclosure's collaboration with AlunaGeorge "White Noise" which descends gently 2-3 this week after 7 weeks around.

 

Speaking of AlunaGeorge, the London electropop duo gain the 'biggest climber' honours for the week as new single "Attracting Flies" jumps 17 places to No.26. The single comes hot on the heels of "Your Drums, Your Love" which spent 3 consecutive weeks at #4 back in November/December 2012 and a mammoth 19 weeks on the chart in total.

 

Overall a quiet week with just 5 new entries, these include notable returns to the chart for Depeche Mode ("Wrong" was their last Top 5 hit in 2009), Dan Croll, Bloc Party, Frank Ocean and Justin Timberlake, who is currently the UK No1 with "Mirrors" (which debuts at No49 this week). There is also a re-entry for Kendrick Lamar, whose brilliant "Swimming Pools (Drank)" I massively overlooked when it was released late summer 2012 - expect a re-peak very soon.
