One of the required elements of being a eurovision fan is the prediction making ritual (aside: If you want some amusing reading then you can find last year's prediction thread here and view all of the egg that ended up on various member's faces) and I've already seen a few people starting to make tentative predictions in other threads so clearly the moment for the thread is now.
The full spectrum of predictions are welcome from 'this country isn't qualifying' to full predictions of the final table with points. Commence the predicting! |

Here is my qualifying prediction
 Semi One Qualifying: Estonia, Belgium, Netherlands, Belarus, Greece, Russia, Finland, Albania, Romania, Georgia Not Qualifying: Denmark, Serbia, Moldova, Macedonia, Armenia, Hungary Semi Two Qualifying: Sweden, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Iceland, Malta, Slovenia, Norway, Israel, Switzerland, Latvia Not Qualifying: Czech Republic, Ireland, Cyprus, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Montenegro Semi 1 - I'm hoping that Armenia & Hungary don't qualify because they don't deserve to and I'd rather see Moldova over Greece qualify but I can't see that happening. Far too early to predict order of where they finish, but I think the following will qualify:
Semi 1:* Belgium Estonia Greece Macedonia Belarus Denmark Georgia Romania Russia Hungary (although they really shouldn't!) Semi 2: Lithuania Malta Norway Azerbaijan Iceland Israel Latvia Poland Slovenia Sweden *It pains me that I don't think Serbia will qualify, Semi 1 seems a much more difficult one to predict yet I think it's the poorer semi of the two). |

My initial predictions following the release of the running orders are:
Semi Final One 01  Russia02  Finland03  Romania04  Georgia05  Estonia06  Belarus07  Greece08  Denmark09  Armenia10  Belgium11  The Netherlands12  Moldova13  Albania14  Serbia15  Hungary16  F.Y.R. MacedoniaHungary and Denmark are the most unpredictable for me. Hungary could very easily end up top 5 in this semi if it clicks with the viewers, but if it doesn't then it will really struggle. I'm going for the latter at this stage. Denmark have a lot of things going against them, a lack of Nordic & Scandi friends especially Iceland and performing after a commercial break but I think they will stand out enough to qualify. I can't see anyone interrupting a runaway top 2 of Russia and Finland at the moment, I'm unconvinced Estonia will be popular enough to do so. Albania and to a lesser extent The Netherlands will be the fan favourite failures, although I can't rule out Elhaida putting in a stunning vocal performance towards the end of her song and sneaking her through, it does seem 'I'm Alive' isn't going to be instant enough though. Semi Final Two 01  Sweden02  Azerbaijan03  Poland04  Slovenia05  Cyprus06  Norway07  Lithuania08  Iceland09  Israel10  Montenegro11  Ireland12  Malta13  Switzerland14  Latvia15  Czech Republic16  San Marino17  PortugalThis is extremely wide open, with only the top 3 and bottom 3 being confident predictions. I was going to put Israel as a DNQ but I think it will stand out enough and Latvia will be the fan favourite DNQ instead. I feel like Malta's luck may run out this year while Poland and Cyprus will be surprise successes with their great draws. |

Qualifiers maybe but they'll be far too polarising to get much higher than 9th in that semi |

It's going to be near the top of most televotes and I can't see the juries marking it any lower than mid-table, and in a 16-country semi that should give it several sets of mid to high points. I'd love to be wrong!

Well I disagree that it'd be top of most televotes, genres out of left field that do well are usually more watered down or 'popified' versions of it (like Hard Rock Hallelujah) whereas this is just a pure punk song. Some people will get it (although I don't think the Tuesday night audience is going to be the most receptive audience to a punk rock song) but others (and I think, the majority of people outside Finland) will either think 'lol downs syndrome punks' or dislike it. Jury wise, there'll be some who get it and rank it mid to high but there will be others who'll actively dislike it and put it last or near last and if you look at the data, polarising jury scores really drag down what that song ends up scoring. |

Just listened through SF1, some of the songs for the first time, and these have stood out:
Semi Final One 01 Moldova02 Armenia03 Belgium04 The Netherlands05 Finland06 Greece07 Estonia08 F.Y.R. Macedonia09 Serbia10 Hungary11 Belarus12 Russia13 Denmark14 Albania15 Romania16 GeorgiaTurns out it's a very strong semi-final. The obvious big-hitter is Russia, who obliterates everything out of that stage and should be the winner of this Semifinal although there is space for surprises. Albania gets a bit lost between Russia and that more than memorable power anthem from Georgia but should manage to scrape through. Also scraping through in the lower end of the Top 10 should be Belgium and The Netherlands, two big favourites who might also be shock eliminations on the night. Hungary should do just about enough to snatch that 10th place, Denmark should be safe with the tried and tested MoR formula they do so well with and I can't see Estonia failing with that track, even if it didn't sound as impressive in the middle of this run-through. I'm writing off Moldova and Armenia from the get go. The first because it's not an impressive uptempo and the latter because I just feel it's going to be such a mess on stage. I'm not convinced people will vote for Greece's outdated ballad (although Portugal 2010 proves me wrong), and I just can't see Finland making it at all. Macedonia and Serbia come across as deja vu tracks that bring nothing new to the table and Belarus should put on a fab show which will see them comfortably through with Romania sealing my qualifiers list. |

Iceland 4. Lithuania 5. Slovenia 6. Montenegro 7. Latvia 8. Norway 9. Switzerland 10. Malta -------------- 11. Israel 12. Poland 13. Czech Republic 14. Cyprus 15. Ireland 16. Portugal 17. San Marino This semi feels a lot more clear cut as to what the Q's and DNQ's will be. Famous last words  |
